The wide open plains, obviously.
Besides being landlocked, the worst thing about a country is not having easily defensible borders like large rivers and especially mountains. Mountains are also good on their own for their timber, pastures, natural springs...
The only part of PLC that was spared were the Carpathians.
How many people fled to Zakopane & Stanisławów during that time?
Prussian and Lithuanian betryal.

Why did Lithuania decide to switch the sides?
>Lithuania
It was one family - the Radziwill's. Nearly all other Lithuanian magnates remained loyal, notably the Sapieha's.
Bumpo
Swedes
No
> According to Professor Andrzej Rottermund, manager of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the destruction of Poland in the deluge was more extensive than the destruction of the country in World War II.
How the fuck is that even possible?
>It was one family - the Radziwill's
not the entire family, mainly two people who hated idea of jesuit king because they weren't catholics
at least they died like cucks having a lot of time to realize that they have fucked up and failed
>The Swedish defeat and eventual retreat from the territories of the Commonwealth spelled an abrupt end for the plans of Janusz and Bogusław. Janusz died in Tykocin, besieged by loyal Commonwealth forces (desperate Swedish defenders later blew themselves up).
>Russia started the war on one side
>Then switchched to the other side
>Then switched back again
Why are Slavs objectively the worst?
Swedes are like Germans but even more autistic, it magnifies whatever actions they do
Germans destroy Poland > Swedes try to obliterate Poland
Germans are unimportant outside of their region for most of history > Swedes are completely irrelevant in history
Germans invite refugees into Europe > Sweden floods their country with refugees so much that they turn it into Somalia
They didn't "switch sides", they were having a separate war with Poland since before Sweden invaded, then when the invasion happened they signed a truce with Poland and had a separate war with Sweden, then returned to fighting Poland.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the correction. I'm an ignorant American, so outside of the really big conflicts, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to these types of things.
The Northern Wars are pretty fascinating but it's a hundred and fifty years of autismal trainwreck wars involving like a dozen states including the main three (Sweden, Russia, Poland) in various configurations banging their heads against each other so it may be hard to follow or construct an overarching narrative.
>Germans are unimportant outside of their region for most of history
i wonder what type of irrelevant subsaharan tier shithole poland must be then
>Germans invite refugees into Europe > Sweden floods their country with refugees so much that they turn it into Somalia
they are one of best places to live no wonder everyone wants to live there and that includes your countrymen too my buttblasted polack friend

Sweden was kind of fucked in 1660 but France made everyone kiss and make up by threatening to join the war on the Swedish side against Brandenburg and Poland.

>but France made everyone kiss and make up by threatening to join the war on the Swedish side against Brandenburg and Poland.
French subhuman.
Karl X was such a fat fucking tard despite being a generally competent and brave leader. He really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when he attacked Denmark again after already winning in 1658.
Northern aggressors obviously
God, I wish I had a horse like that.

No one except for that autistic Swedish king on Polish throne
He started this pointless war.
Tens of thousands died for what?
For his autistic ego and claims
Polish historyfags, give the rundown on this war.
>half of 17th century
>PLC is busy fighting Russians, Cossacks and Brandenburgians
>Swedish king Karl X Gustaw sees an opportunity to strike PLC in its weakest moment and take Baltic coast from it
>Demoralised Poles give little resistance
>Half of the country even rebels against PLC royalty under leadership of Janusz Radziwill and sides with Swedes, including future Polish king Jan Sobieski
>In the same time Russians, Cossacks, Brandenburgians and Hungarians also invade PLC
>Polish kingJohn Casmir escapes the country
>Swedish army acts not nicely - massacres civilians, burns crops and robs Polish art, of which many is exhibited in Sweden to this day
>Swedes manage to piss off even their Polish allies
>Siege of Czestochowa monastery proves to be turning point - Swedes fail to capture the monastery hill defended by monks and patriots, and news of victory spread around whole Commonwealth
>Partisan warfare led by hetman Czarniecki begins, Poland starts to turn into Swedish Vietnam
>Soon, with support of Tatars and Austrians, Polish king returns
>Up to 1660, Swedes are repelled from whole commonwealth, but with a phyrric cost.
>At 1660 Oliwa treaty organised by French, Poland gives independence to Prussia, hands over Latvia to Sweden, while Sweden promises to give back all robbed goods (unfullfilled)
Crazy war, you could find Polish winged hussars, Mongol horsemen, and Austrian dragoons fight on one side, and Swedish infantrymen, Scottish highlanders, Cossacks and Russian boyars fighting on other.
There is a good novel, and 1974 film based on that war, "The Deluge" by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
>There is a good novel, and 1974 film based on that war, "The Deluge" by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
Honestly, The Deluge is a pretty good book, but it's best to first read By Fire and Sword, by the same author, which is about Chmielnicki Uprising.
Also, The Deluge features one of the best duels in movies, which got posted on Veeky Forums for years by this point (I remember it being posted on Veeky Forums before Veeky Forums was made).

Though gotta admit that the duel in by Fire and Sword was also pretty good (even if ending didn't managed to get full justice of the hand swap vs dropping on the ground)

>PLC is busy fighting Russians, Cossacks and Brandenburgians
*Brandenburg-Prussia joined the war after the Swedish invasion, and then changed sides again when it became clear the Swedes were losing. The Transylvanians also tried to invade Poland, but they were utterly incompetent.
It's a decently accurate write up, but for perspective it might be relevant to note that Russia and P-L also made truce with each other and the Russians also fought the Swedes. The Dutch also intervened to stop Swedish domination of the Baltic (which was vital for trade between eastern and western Europe) and Denmark because they were in a basically constant struggle with Sweden. The messy conflict was pretty rife with opportunism and fair weather friends. It was definitely not a 'fair' situation for Poland though.
Just realised you were probably referring to Transylvania when you wrote Hungarians.
Thank you
>TFW Swedes were a worse thing to happen to the area than nazis and soviets combined.
Swedish army was mostly Germans desu
still under the command of the king, the deluge was comparable of ottoman occupation or the mongol invasion of other places

how is this still allowed in post-modern Sweden
Poles should push Sweden to return it. Using some SJW guilt tactic, since Swedes are so progressive, brave and a humanitarian superpower.
