The waco Davidians were heavily armed. They knew the BATF was on its way to raid the compound. It's most likely that they fired first. David Koresh ordered the compound to be burned down and wanted everyone to die. This was proved by objective physical evidence, including infrared photography taken of fire ignition points, residue of accelerants found and audio recordings through bugging devices. This was cited within two Congressional investigations and one independent investigation. There were also civil and criminal court proceedings that came to the same conclusions. Due to increased public scrutiny through the media Koresh was not traveling as much outside the compound with regular frequency before the raid. After Koresh ordered the shooting of BATF agents the BATF and FBI could not simply leave and disregard the murders. The facts don't support your statement. No one wanted a confrontation other than David Koresh, who had been illegally stockpiling, modifying and producing weapons in preparation from imagined Doomsday.The Waco Tribune Herald ("Sinful Messiah" series) and an Australian documentary team were exposing the horrible abuses within the compound by David Koresh. For this reason Koresh was not going into town daily and members of the group were much more tightly controlled. Koresh didn't want them exposed to the outside world. He tightly controlled his followers access to their families, friends and/or anyone from the world outside the compound that might further expose him or raise critical questions.

The government made mistakes in its handling of the raid and standoff. But these were tactical errors. The ultimate responsibility for the tragedy lied with David Koresh. He literally controlled his cult followers to death. Millions and millions of dollars have been spent investigating Waco and through various investigations and court trials both criminal and civil. All evidence and reports, both Republican and Democrat and the Independent Danforth Report, concluded based upon the facts that David Koresh caused the conflict, broke the law, sexually abused children and decided to burn the compound down killing everyone.

You know, I really would like sources for these claims, not because I have problems believing the government would do some shady shit, they sure the fuck have at various points throughout history, but simply because I honestly hadn't heard of this stuff before.
