Who here /bike/?

Just wondering how many of you guys ride. Yes that's one of mine on a 11 mile trip I took recently. I also have a vintage 70's french road bike(Stella is the brand) I'm slowly fixing up - adjusting cables, packing bearings, new pads and tires, ect.

I find it's WAY easier impact than running, and much more fun. Trying to work my way up to 15 miles a day.

And another.

Nice bike friendo,
I'm just trying to figure out how to eat enough to makof lift gains and cycle gains.

Biking is very fun.
I'm gonna buy a new touring bike once some financial matters get settled in a few months.
I'm currently rolling this beach cruiser, but with a different seat and much higher seat position.
It has a 3-gear internal hub so some people get surprised when they see how fast I go.

Nice.

My fourth one, needed a hardtail in my selection

>Yes that's one of mine
You sound very pompous for someone who own a bicycle...

Not gonna sage because biking is great low impact cardio.

Rocky Mountain Vertex here. Its a mountain bike but I use it for normal biking. Biked 20 miles yesterday and 8 today. Way better than running

>dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2684947/Men-cycling-nine-hours-week-six-times-likely-develop-prostate-cancer-study-finds.html

I don't want to increase my chances of getting cancer, so I just swim.

... Until a study comes out and says I can't do that either.

LOL I just was saying I didn't get that pic of the internet is all.

LOW IMPACT That was the phrase I was looking for but couldn't remember.

Dude, hit up Craigslist. Tons of stuff if you don't plan on doing any serious mountain stuff. For cruising around on pavement 50-100$, a little bit of negotiating skill, a can of brake cleaner to degrease/de-rust, some new chain lube and marine grease and a wrench will get you set up real nice.

Disk brakes. Jelly af. Some day I may.

You sound like a douche nozzle

>hit up Craigslist.
Yeah I know, it's the canned /n/ response.
Thing is it's hard finding a bike for someone that's 6'2".
I've been wanting to work up to some serious touring stuff and I like the Surly LHT.
I don't really mind dropping a grand on a Surly but if I see something on CL then I'll reconsider.

I hope you guys use bike seats with the cutout in the middle or else enjoy your ED

Agree 100%. Biking is pretty great. I have road racing bike myself. Love me some coastal routes.

Are decent road/cyclocross bikes cheaper in the EU compared to the US?

I might be moving to the EU for grad school and would definitely bike for my commute. Where I live in the US it's not nearly as convenient to bike as a form of commuting.

I wouldn't use a cyclecross bike to commute because of the gearing, but that's just me.

Cannot say about price, sorry.

I've always been a bit turned off by the durability of wheels for road bikes though. I've heard they can be damaged easily even on pavement.

Hmmm...
I have heard the same thing, but I think good set of hand built wheels should really last, regardless of use. Super light stuff I would stay away from for daily driver suff anyways. I mean, a good set of alloy 32 or 38 spoke training wheels, properly trued/built/setup and inflated should give you very very VERY little room for breakage or malfuntion. Cheap stuff will break or need constant maintain anyways, especially the more vigorous your driving or how much weight you put on them.

Sorry the link is massive.

any of you guys like biking around different places? like different regions, states, countries, etc.?

I think that's where biking really shines.

Yeah, as long as nothing important breaks or some idiot hits you.

>some idiot hits you
>not having mirrors all over the place and wearing bright ass fluorescent colors and having flashing lights and shit all over your bike and helmet and gear
>not having a 360 degree camera recording everything while you're riding

step up the game, man

Biking is so boring to me. I like running more and get a better workout.

I want to get a bike, but I dont know the first thing about them. I asked on /n/ but didnt get a response. help me lads

I cycled to Spain through France, starting in the UK a few months ago, it was pretty rad, met a lot of really interesting people and saw some really pretty places

I lost a shit load of mass on my upper body though, I'm back in the gym now that I'm back and it's been about 5 months since I was in one last and it's depressing how weak I am

Hybrid bikes are good for both road and gravel paths. A little lighter than a mountain bike. Or just get a decent mountain bike.

I ride and fuck up my saracen mantra daily, mostly on the canal and local trails.
if you want to buy a mountain bike, try stay away from square tapered bb's and santour forks, they have given me nothing but trouble, but thats what i get for buying cheap i guess.
I don't see too much loss in strength as i just hit 110kg bench at 85kg bw but that might be because im bulking.

any one youd recommend? what price range? (in the uk if that matters)

Mine is the one pictured. It was about $400.

Some differences from owning cheaper department store mountain bikes: disk brakes, a little faster, lighter, more narrow tires, lot smoother gears.

It was my first more expensive bike. I don't like road bikes because they make me feel like falling over and I mostly go through some road and mostly gravel paths. It's a good all around bike for me.

I have a Giant Talon 2 that I just use to go the 500 meters to school.

I just got home from a 46 mile road race this morning, and I ride 6 days a week, 7 to 15+ hours a week total, mileage in the range of 150-250 miles a week, AMA.

I bike almost exclusively standing up. This seems wrong.

why would you go distance riding on a dual suspension bike?

Probably all he has.
Besides which if it's fitted properly to him then he should be reasonably comfortable for the length of his endurance.

seeThe Craigslist stuff.

Typically three classes of bike, in my opinion - Road bikes, Mountain bikes, and cruisers. And then all the crossover stuff or specialist stuff like cycle cross, track racing, ect.

Road bikes have really thin tires, are lighter, and meant to go fast over paved roads. Mountain bikes are meant to go over roots and rocks and stuff. You can get pretty extreme. Cruisers are typically comfortable to ride, and have a very upright and relaxed riding position.

Google some stuff, look up YouTube vids about basic maintenance, and you could be good to go.

Check out some Olympic track riding stuff. Shit is insane. I'm built for it, but no way do I have time/money to invest. Those guys can accelerate to 50 mph on a damn bicycle.

The comment about fitted-ness is spot on.

I have three. The 70's Stella, a Schwinn, and that guy. The Schwinn is uncomforatable as fuck, so I keep it for parts. The road bike needs too much work(rear is dangerously out of round), and no way in hell would I ride a road bike out here....

The DS bike has been meticulously tweaked by me to be damn mear half-centimeter pefect, because the roads FRIKKEN SUCK out here - potholes, worn off asphalt from tractors, gravel/crushed roads full of depressions, and cornfields everywhere that I ride around in sometimes. So that bike was the obvious choice. It is a bitch up hill because the suspetion eats up a noticable amount of efficiency, but it's worth it to me.

At a crossroads. Maybe will give you an idea -

Aaaaaand one more, lol

Yea but more as a hobby for me

When I lose more bodyfat I'm going to be riding without a shirt on.
My game is fine, I'll have lights for night riding though.

Couldn't sleep well so I got up early and rode ~18km this morning just exploring randomly.

I got a hybrid because I thought I'd spend more time on trails. I almost exclusively use it to commute so I really wish I bought something faster.

Lighter/thinner tires can help with speed more than you may think.

Cycling is great. I started at the beginning of March. Started at about 20 miles a week and I am now up to 75 -100 miles a week. Only downside is how much time it takes to get a decent workout in now. Helps that I pedal in the rocky foothills so at least the scenery is interesting.
>pic related my bike

Your full suspension system sucks, if you look closely, they only work properly if you stay seated, Otherwise the impact will still go through your feet and legs unfortunatelly.

I really don't know why they still sell this things

Btw sorry if i came as somewhat offensive, I'm just sad bike frame manufactures still push the noy independdnt link full suspension bike frame.

All in all whenever i bike more than 10km my ass hurts a lot.. how the hell to fix that? (278cm 74kg btw so not that fat)

No worries mate. For the record, I do stay seated, lol.

Belive me, If I had the money I would step up.

For sure I bike 3-4 days a week

Where is engine?
How are you going to go fast?

Dutch here so I use my bike yes. However, not in a sporting manner

run as much as possible then bike to let your joint recover .

I do about 40KM of mountain biking a week on top of my lifting and running. Pic related, green is mine. Yeti SB6C, cost about £6.5K

>evanscycles.com/saracen-tufftrax-2017-mountain-bike-EV289681

>evanscycles.com/saracen-urban-esc-2017-hybrid-bike-EV289705

thinking about either of these. it will be the first bike Ive owned since I was a kid and will mainly be for commuting. the hybrid is probably more practical, but the mtb is more aesthetic

I dont know a fucking thin about bike, these were recommended by a friend. any alternative suggestions are welcome :)

For commuting, buy a road bike or a bike with road tires. I own a spare hardtail MTB that I use to go out with mates, and it's so slow compared to their road equipped bikes. I'm the guy with the green Yeti btw

I forgot to mention I live in a semi rural area. I go through fields, gravel and shitty roads. wouldnt a hybrid atleast be better?

Thin tires do not like SOFT earth, like mud and sand. You hit a patch of that with a thin tire and you will go flying. It will be hell if you have to commute after a heavy rain/during a rain.

After that it's just about how much abuse your frame and rims can take.

Personally I'd go with mountainish bike. The slower speed is worth the security of less-than-optimal road conditions for me.

>being 15
you need to be +18 to post here kid.

>6500
holy shit and thats even more on $/€. fokin richbois

Bought this after putting about 9-10km on my old road bike and it was pain to upgrade. $900 CAD after tax, I miss my drop bars :( I ride about 20km a day on the low end. I put on my rack and pannier for commuting, need to put fenders on before winter.

>9-10km
1 or 2 bike rides and you gave up on it?

23 friendo, started at 15 though so not bad there

meant 9-10 k km
9000-10,000 km
Bike was already 20 years old when I bought it. Pretty sweet frame.

Jesus. I'd pay pay off my car or buy some land where I live for that kind of money.

But I get investing in things you love to do.

DUDE WTF someone debunk this for me.

WHY ARE WILL STILL BIKING if this is truee

Just moved to London and got this for 140 pounds a couple of weeks ago, I do 7 miles morning and evening, saves a lot of money and time on commute. Bike's shit but it gets the job done, need to change the seat ASAP though.

so long as you stand up frequently and adjust how you sit/don't put full pressure on your perineum nonstop, you'll be fine lol. cutout seems like a nice prevention method too though

yeah i bike, did 300km this week
do we need strava group?
/runners/ have it

I'm listening

>tfw 35km/h wind today

I just wanted to go fast and enjoy myself.

>tfw 6'6" and still growing
>twf I'm 22
I'm really never going to be able to bike am I?

I did 55 miles today user... I remember thinking an hour would kill me 2.5 years ago
