It would seem that prayer is futile. Because by praying we petition God directly (or indirectly for Catholics) to get something we want.
About the thing that we want, we would either 1) get it anyway, therefore player is useless; or 2), we wouldn't get it, but because we prayed, God granted it to us. But this would imply that God can change his mind. But the Bible says God can't change his mind.
Malachi 3:6 "For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
Numbers 23:19 "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Ye have not, because ye ask not.
You're wrong, as usual.
Isaac Campbell
>unintelligible gibberish >doesn't address the point Found the Christian.
Austin Kelly
Why are you so surprised you cannot understand the things of God? Are you so arrogant you think you can grasp them on your own?
James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
John 16:24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Gavin Long
Your "point" was that prayer is useless.
Because your god is the devil, OF COURSE YOUR PRAYER IS USELESS.
Cameron Garcia
>But the Bible says God can't change his mind.
Another lie. The verse you cite to support this lie means other than what you think.
God will not say "I will give you an apple", and then later say "Nope, changed my mind, no apple for you."
Ryan Rivera
>The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
This is the express will of God.
You do not know, understand, or fathom that there is a permissive will of God that is not directly in his express will.
For instance, you are going to hell. It is not God's will that you should go to hell, but yours. And he will give you the power to reject and rebel against him, leaving him no option but to cast you into hell.
That is not his express will.
That happens under his permissive will, where he gave you sovereignty, and agency, and where there exists cause and effect, and crime and punishment.
Michael Long
>you cannot understand the things of God? Are you so arrogant >your god is the devil >Another lie Wew.
Ignore logic and throw insults and passive aggressive magic thinking, that will teach him.
The power of Christianity folks!
Tyler Thomas
Instead of rabbling like fanatic ISIS supporters, why don't you just explain to me how prayer works?
Jonathan Mitchell
this christians here are always on the defensive
Oliver Nelson
Why would someone change their mind about a future event if they know the past, present, and future?
Not OP, just curious.
Isaac Ross
Yes, the ability to see and say the truth, among liars, thieves and murderers such as yourself, and your spiritual father, satan.
Luke Jenkins
Same way asking your dad for $10 works. Yes, no, maybe later.
Ryder Moore
Exactly why God does not change his mind.
Brayden Wright
Gee, I wonder why. This is such a safe spot for born again Christians.
Brayden Wilson
>liars, thieves and murderers such as yourself Lmao you sound like a raging lunatic.
Nolan King
prayer is more a mode of being
Adam Butler
Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever hated anyone, wished they were dead, or called them a fool?
Liar Thief Murderer
Tyler White
You pray that God's will be done, that He guides you correctly on the straight path. It's also communion with God, talking to Him like a child would to his father. Prayer can have several layers to it. It generally starts with exalting the Most High God, being grateful (for what you already have), praying for others, and lastly praying for yourself.
Praying is not asking God to give you shit, only retarded atheists believe that's how prayer works. God is not santa clause.
Lucas Ramirez
You're just as your father is.
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Luis Rivera
>or called them a fool? >murderer Congrats for being an utter idiot.
Btw I guess by your definition you and every Christian that ever lived has been a
Le Liar Le Thief Le Murderer
James Stewart
Ye have not because ye ask not.
Liam Allen
...
Kevin Walker
>Because by praying we petition God directly (or indirectly for Catholics) to get something we want. Wrong. Stopped reading there and everyone else should have done the same
Camden Torres
Matthew 5 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
Glad I could show you that you are indeed a liar, a thief, and a murderer.
Jaxon Hill
>You pray that God's will be done Therefore prayer is futile. See point 1) in the OP.
Tyler Carter
>Btw I guess by your definition you and every Christian that ever lived has been a >Le Liar >Le Thief >Le Murderer
Correct. Everyone in heaven is a murderer, and everyone in hell is a murderer.
Charles Smith
Or he and OP are both wrong, along with you.
Robert Torres
And you and every Christian that has ever lived aren't liars, thieves and murderers? (According to your retarded definition that is.)
Jack James
Everyone in heaven (but for God and the remaining angels) are liars, thieves, and murderers.
Everyone in hell (including the fallen angels) are liars, thieves and murderers.
1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
Ayden Myers
>Correct. Everyone in heaven is a murderer, and everyone in hell is a murderer. I guess Christians aren't so great then.
Of course that in the world of sane people, you're not a murderer unless you've actually murdered someone
Nicholas Hernandez
Nope. We were not saved because we were great.
We were saved because we begged to be saved, and because God is gracious and merciful, he saved us.
Evan Adams
>1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. Sooo... Thought/speech is violence?
Are Christians the first SJWs?
Jason Davis
>Of course that in the world of sane people, you're not a murderer unless you've actually murdered someone
Correct. Man will not imprison you for thinking you want someone dead.
God will cast you into hell though.
So which is worse?
Matthew Murphy
Yes. The second satan rebelled against God, the instant that sin crosses his heart, he was banished, condemned, and cast to the earth.
Keep thinking reality exists of more than thought, and you'll keep thinking like an animal on its way to the slaughterhouse.
Jose James
>an imaginary being will cast me into an imaginary place after I no longer exist vs. real prison >which is worse? Gee, I wonder.
Ethan Anderson
So you agree with SJWs that if you think or say something wrong you're engaging in violence?
Hunter Brooks
Obligatory 'God doesn't exist'
Luis Howard
Is the universe imaginary?
Then neither is the creator of the universe. Nor is he one to mock.
Dominic Price
Everyone is a sinner.
The difference between you and me is that I am no longer a slave to sin. I recognized the need for a savior, a redeemer, the God-man Yeshua the Messiah who died on the cross for my sins. He took the punishment mankind deserved. He paid your debt in full.
I am born again, of the spirit. I have become a child of God. My flesh remains sinful, and Christians know all too well the battle that rages within their soul between the old man and new man. We can't be perfect, that's the entire point of Jesus Christ's sacrifice. We look towards the cross, and by Faith we are saved through the blood of our LORD.
Unrepentant sinners remain slaves to sin. You are 100% accountable for your own actions. You will be judged for every word you've ever spoken, for everything you've ever thought or did. You are condemned under the law. No amount of good works can save you. Only God can save you through the shed blood of His Son.
The gift of salvation is free - you either accept it or reject it.
Liam Fisher
No, because they're limiting themselves to the realm of men, where everyone is a liar, and a thief, and a murderer.
Under the sun, actions count more than words, and words count more than thoughts.
Brandon Thompson
Obligatory 'you don't exist'
Wyatt Fisher
But SJWs are full of hate and envy. Satan/Lucifer was the first SJW/Socialist.
Juan Lee
Amen.
Brandon Turner
God exists, and your hatred towards Him won't magically make Him vanish.
Sorry, but reality is reality.
Carter Green
Social justice comes at the expense of individual justice, and is therefore to be condemned.
Jose Gray
>thinly veiled cosmological argument That's been debunked ages ago. Do you even Hume bro?
Jonathan Walker
Everything that began to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist. The universe therefore has a cause, and we entitle that cause "God".
for you, "God" might mean QM law of gravity Brahaman Xenu, etc., but whoever made this universe is worthy of worship.
Samuel Bell
The "debunking" is garbage. He posits that there is no First Cause, without any explanation. Just isn't one.
Then he admits that the universe came into being at the Big Bang, and therefore the Big Bang had to have a cause.
Then he goes on to say that the creator of the universe cannot create ex nihilo, again with no reasoning or logic behind the statement whatsoever.
No, your "debunking" is bunk.
Samuel King
>gravity is worthy of worship The absolute state of theists. >Hume >big bang What caused God? >lellll the everything has a cause doesn't apply here because... Christard logic.
Christopher Thomas
Stephen Hawking, no theist, said that the universe created itself because of the Law of Gravity.
Therefore, to him, and others like him, their god is the Law of Gravity, the Creator of the Universe.
He's one of yours, not mine.
God is an eternal spirit being who dwells in unapproachable light.
He has no creator, he always was, is, and always will be.
Such an infantile question. Such a simple, infantile question.
Brody Howard
"Why," queried David Hume, "may not the material universe be the necessary existent Being, according to this pretended explanation of necessity?"
1. Admitted from nothing, comes nothing. 2. Entropy 3. Heat death
>Malachi 3:6"For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.Numbers 23:19"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?Psalm 33:11The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Those all mean that he won't break his promises. There are many examples in the Bible of God "repenting" or doing something only because a good person prayed for it. Statistically though, there is no evidence that prayer really works.
Camden Murphy
Are you implying that the universe reaching a state of maximum entropy means it no longer exists?
Oliver Hernandez
I sometimes pray for a placebo effect if anything, a mental boost that makes me push harder. Usually before hard PRs or just heavy lifts in general
>mfw I thought this was Veeky Forums but I realised it was Veeky Forums right before submitting still a fair post.
Josiah Phillips
Praying for gains huh? Fair enough I guess.
Juan Gutierrez
Pray the gains goblin away
Justin Morris
>He only prays when he wants something like a spoiled child
I pray to God for wisdom I pray to God t thank him for my blessings I pray for others I pray for a better tomorrow
