Why did the 1980's Physiques look so damn good?

This wasn't just structure. Pic related is Ralf Moeller, he actually has genetically wide hips and big joints. 6'6" 288, was more a monster of his time, considered unaesthetic. By today's standard the guy looks might as well be cut from the cloth of Frank Zane.

In this time period we virtually never saw gyno or guys covered in zits and acne scars or stretch marks from bulking too big in the off season. Actually most of the guys grew into shows back then too.

What was done so differently back then? This isn't just a drug question, but other related stuff as to what made this Pre-MassMonster time give us some of the best all time physiques.

Also most guys muscles were in their original attachments as they weren't covered in miss matches due to surgeries to re-attach torn stuff all the time either.

Educated guess is they tended to use full range of motion movements as the core of their routines, but rarely ever went low rep. Basically compound stuff with weights they could handle safely combined with some fluff and pump here and there to bring up lagging parts.

They didn't have AI's or Serms to control estrogen yet they never seemed to have sides on stage. My guess is that testosterone use was very limited back then, and they tended to rely on Deca, EQ, combined with things like Winny and Dbol... which is off considering the lack of gyno which we would think Deca and Dbol. Never heard of them complain about Deca-dick either, even though they often used it without test and often was Deca and Winny combos.

If you have more info on this time period put it in here.

Nowadays if you want to gain more mass you focus on eating more and taking more steroids/supplements.

Back then if you wanted to gain more mass you worked out more. Hence the two a day workouts, abs and calves everyday, hitting each body part 2-3 times per week. If you do that now people will say that you are over training and if you want size then you should just eat more instead. Eating more often will making you bigger but lifting more often will make you more fit.

Ralf still looked blocky there XP

See what you mean though about his body looking clean. No pimples or gyno.

I think Franco Columbo still did have mild gyno but yes it was rare.

This. Back then drugs were relied on less. Training was much smarter more volume and more safety minded.

Lee Priest back then around that year looked amazing

Testosterone is the most over rated steroid. Seriously. It converts to E2 at a higher rate than even Dbol. In fact Deca causes less sides without testosterone present. Its like a bad drug interaction. Leads to MORE of the test converting to E2. The high E2 combined with the progestenic effects is what drives up prolactin. Any DHT can go with Deca and you might not even need caber or prami. Winny + Deca or even better Proviron as its cheap, usually legit and not toxic.

clean physique, no gut, good skin, no gyno

No face graffiti either.

This would be before slin became normal right? So they just reached the unnatty limit before going full retard.

5'4", arms as big or bigger than his legs, openly talks about steroid use with a thick Australian accent. Puts a big question mark in the argument between manlets and lanklets.

I think we're looking at the new king of Veeky Forums.

Small wrists are a curse you can never escape aren't they?

People discovered lift heavy get huge. The high rep workouts died out and everyone got freakish big on the back of monster lifts and steroids.

His forearms look like drumsticks kek

Slin was already being used in small amounts but common and only to help absorb post workout meals. Believe it or GH becoming common at high doses is what is more likely to deform them.

The way they trained did diddle shit for the mass monster era. It was drugs. If anything the idiotic ultra heavy low rep work is why they are always needing surgery. Look at the guy who popularized it, Dorian Yates - is there any tendon he hasn't ruptured?

This.
High doses of insulin and hgh being easier to acquire made them all into mutants.

The answer is high volume training instead of powerbuilding. And also less roiding.

Slightly less food, cleaner drug stacks. Less slin/GH etc. These are physiques built on deca and hardening agents, but also more test was being used in this era hence the bigger sizes than the 70s.

These days you have a few years to get absolutely as big as possible. And when you think you cant possible get any huger, you stand next to Kai Greene or something and realize he is literally double your thickness. So you eat more than should be humanly possible, and up every dose including test until youre at several grams. More slin, more GH.

The answer youre looking for is that less is more.

Instead of upping the dose, you trained harder, said 'next year.' These days you can imagine, if you dont have as bigger arms as the next guy, you dont resist temptation, you just go home and inject more.

It's interesting to note as well how when these guys stepped away from the stage they didn't completely revert to shit like so many modern pros of the 2000's did too. Same guy as the OP down about 30 pounds under his former contest weight for a film role in BOTB2

Now as an old man still has more muscle than most lifters ever will. Still trains. Too old to die young too.

>Look at the guy who popularized it, Dorian Yates - is there any tendon he hasn't ruptured?
He tore his triceps, lmao

I think those guys could/would exist in todays age, perhaps we will see it with this "classic physique" competition that has been added

I think the issue is that generally speaking you put them on stage next to a mass monster who is abusing 100 different drugs they look small, and don't win the competition, if you want to be the best you need to be as big as humanly possible, and that means force feeding yourself and abusing steroids and insulin and growth hormone, which means leaving behind the aesthetic golden era look

Dorian Yates was saying on Joe Rogan's podcast how even the physique guys these days are on shitloads more gear than he and other bodybuilders of his era were. I can't even imagine how much the mutants at Olympia are taking if thats the case.

Just imagine walking around like this. Big ass calves too.

>In order to win, you need to leave the aesthetic golden era look behind.
Everything wrong with bodybuilding today tßh

and both biceps and a quad

is he dare I say it /ourguy/?

I question if that is actually true, in that there is a lot of under dosed and mislabeled trash floating around.

You might have a guy claiming he's on 2grams a week where only 600mg of it is legit.

Lots of plain cheap testosterones floating around too in varying doses.

One thing we know for sure, even the guys who aren't bigger than the 80's fellas are walking side effects. Gyno, acne, ugly bad skin and in contest shape an ugly burned out hammered dogshit unhealthy look.

Sure the 80's guys still had to deal with the over dieted depletion and all that, yet they didn't have that deep fried look about then.

Today you have guys who's arms and upper back and chest even quads couldn't even compare to the late 70's yet these modern ones look like lumpy GH gut pieces of chicken on a stick.

Why do these German guys always have such impressive biceps? Arnold and Gunter did too.

it is probably because there was no internet back then, so dudes went to a professional doctor to get their drugs who also gave them sound advice, nowadays everyone's an expert on the net and suggests you take a million kinds of drugs made in some chink basement to combat every kind of side effects and not, hence people take way too many different drugs and fuck up resulting in weird ass bodys
