Anglo-Saxon building are actually VERY comfy. I was a huge Anglo-Saxonboo when I graduated college and I also hated society so I decided to buy a plot of land and be a sustenance farmer. I spent months researching and testing shit out and I eventually bought the land and built myself an AS mead-hall using traditional tools, materials and surviving examples as blueprints. The simple appearance is very misleading. The walls have three layers, the inner and outer wooden walls separated by a wall of gravel that drags moisture down back into the earth and keeps the house very comfy. I've been in many different stone houses as well from the Roman era up until 14th century and I can say Anglo-Saxon houses were by far the best insulated and cozy.
