How weak were you during your first day at the gym?

>almost failed benching 100lbs
Fuck that's only half my bodyweight

When I started I was benching 90.

35lb dumbbells was my very first weight for dumbbell bench.
5 years later and I can rep the 130's.

PR BP 110lbs on Wednesday, better have an extra scoop today in anticipation

could 1RM maybe 70 lbs for bench press
9.5 months later and i can 1RM 185-190 lbs

Benched like 95lbs at 135bw. Most people have shit bench despite their actually strength when starting out due to lack of stability.
Squatted body weight on my first day and almost snapped my shit right up.
Actually DL'd 2 plate for 3-5 on day 1 but had shit form. My old boomer dad taught me the big three for the first time and had no regard for the health of my back.

Bench 20kg
OHP 5kg
DL 40kg
Squat 30kg
Everything x10

well, it was my first day at the gym last week (skellington) and

>could OHP 30kg (65lbs) (x5)
>could bench only 25kg (55lbs) (x5)
>deadlift 50kg (110lbs) (x5)

wtf guys? i thought bench was supposed to be the easier lift?

been trainin n going consistently for over a year and im still weak breh

i could only do 10s on either side of the barbell

Could only bench 15 lb lad

Was auschwitz skelly , year later nle at 50 lb its alright

Eat more

reeeeeeeeeeeee i can't even bench press the barbell yet

Bench led the bar
Now 2pl8
Couldn't do 1 pull-up
Now can do 20
Could only do 5 push-ups
Now can do 60
You get better

my first (home)gym (with 12kg, that's where weird numbers come from) was (all for 3x5 except deadlift 1x5)
>37kg bench
>37kg squat
>47kg deadlift
I benched once or twice before on PE at school, but have never squatted with barbell before

i deadlifted 2pl8 for 4 reps on my first day, which is admittedly pretty good considering i never did any manual labour or sports
actually had some dyel come up to me and ask me how long i had been lifting

Tried to bench press, dropped an empty bar onto my chest on the first rep.

pls be in G L A S G O W

First week was like;
>45 kg bench press with spotter help
>55 kg squat, can't even imagine what form I had
>35 kg deadlift (?)

Is there any difference between a barbell and a dumbell bench press? If someone can do 100 with a BB, would 100 with a DB be harder or easier? Including the bar weight of course

Complete skelly, auschwitz mode at 6'1 127 lbs.
Started with SL so 1st day tried and succeeded with the bar for bench, BB rows, squats, and 75 for deadlift. The only thing I could do really well was pull-ups and chin-ups, did 7 and 12 first day, respectively.

>first week benching
>couldn't bench 85lbs for more than 2 reps
>couple months pass
>remember hitting 135x1 first time

>1 year later
>slam out 205 for 6
>225x2
>another few months and I'll be at 225x5 bench, 275x5 squat, and 335x5 deads (letting my deads stall a little because of minor injury)

We're all going to make it.

Never hit the gym but when i started wirking out i could do 40 push ups and 10 pull ups at 16 years old and 56 kg bw

>failed a bare bar bench
>only curled silvers
>never did calf raises
>squat pr was 8 reps with bar

>bench now 145x3
>squat 275x1
>deadlift 230x2

>pulled 45 kgs orm with the worst fucking form
>repping 55 one year later
Slow progress is still progress

How?

Started off at 30kg bench. 4 months later i'm at 65kg bench. squat with just the bar has turned into 80kg squat, deadlift went from 40kg to 100kg and my ohp started at 10kg (5kg dumbells) and has barely progressed up to 35kg.

Should I continue going to the gym this semester? I'm 154lbs and 5'7". I'm quite skinny.

Yes.

What should I be lifting under these conditions? Also, am I a manlet?

If you did bench after OHP your shoulders may have been tired, also lift more and it will even out

As a fellow 5'7, you are a manlet by some standards, but passable by others. If you're weak just keep doing a beginner routine like Stronglifts 5x5 or Phrak's Greyskull LP.

first time I decided to lift weights, I could only bench 60 fucking pounds

I OHP'd 30lbs on my first day and had to use the assisted dip machine.

i haven't been yet because i'm too weak and i'm afraid i'll look like a twat not knowing what to do

my brother has a bench and bar that he never uses so i've just been doing the basic movements on that until i can lift like 40/50 kg or so

I think my bench press form is fucked though because the bars that hold the bar up are really narrow so i have no space and i'm really rather hurting my wrists

I was too gangly and uncoordinated to do barbell squats properly so I did goblet squats till I could unfuck my form

2012 body weight: 135lbs
2012 bench press: 65lbs

2017 body weight: 175lbs
2017 bench press: 245lbs

How long did that take dawg?

I'm in glasgow...are you a qt lassie?

If you never work out in your life you get good gains when you do start for a little while

0.5/1/2/3/
t. athletic fatass

nearly died squatting 40kg 3x5, haven't stalled since though although my bench is stuck at 55k despite starting at the same weight

you can generally lift less with dbs because of the increased effort of stabilizing. it should probably be about 75% of your barbell weight.

first day today and same

>went to gym
>picked up dumbells for bench presses
>one of my Veeky Forums comrades is at the gym at the barbell
>I have 45 pounds bells
>he's got 60 pound plates
>"huh, he's not lifting much more than me, I'm not as weak as I thought!"
It didn't occur to me at the time that the bar itself adds 45lbs.

I did bench first, which was why it was a bit weird. But whatever.

I couldn't do a full set 3 sets of 135 for like 3 or 4 months

Weakest I was was when I was recovering from breaking my arm, people were actually laughing at me for failing reps of benching the bar.

no, i was hoping you were

Why can I do 70 push-ups but only bench 120

Did calistenics for 5 years, weigh 80kg, before joining gym 2 months ago

>bench 80kg
>squat 80kg
>diddly 100kg

Now its
>bench 75kg
>squat 110kg
>diddly 130kg

Think i underate the first month though.

Why am I not surprised the anime faggot is weak as fuck? Lol

my max curl was 10 lbs
now I can 50 lbs
>TFW I knew I was weak

My first bench was the bar plus 10kg on each side.
But according to my mates I that was a pretty good starting weight.
Seems like 100lbs is about 45kg so if you're counting the bar there then you're probably fine.
Just buy some dumbells and work on your triceps at home a bit.

I barely benched a small 18 kg barbell without weights, PT came and told me "whoa dude , take it easy, that's 18 kg!" And he wasn't being a smartass, I looked like an anorexic. Probably was and didn't realized it. It felt heavy as fuck

same, and now I gotta buy a bunch of meat and milk

Just a friendly reminder for typical natty lifters to focus on basic barbell lifts and progressing in them. Get decent poundages in them. Do only minimal amount of isolation exercises. Brosplits work if you are in the minority who put muscle on easily. If you are making shit gains and going 5x times a week, working out 1.5 h, doing 8 exercises then cut the fuck back. Just because Arnie could do it doesn't mean it will work for you.

It's not where you start, it's where you finish.
