Actual answer is it was basically a place for Stalin to try and deport Jews he didn't like. Jews were hardly alone in Stalin's ethnic circus, he deported people all over the place.
Moreover Stalinist Russia wasn't ideal living.
Jews took over Israel, made it theirs, and produced the most prosperous state in the region with living standards superior to anywhere in Russia.
