America.

wanna know how I know you're Canadian?

America

American here, both were. America needed a war to validate their Independence. Britain needed people for the Napoleonic wars

I'm not Canadian.

Brits

Britain antagonised the United States but the US was naive in thinking Britain wouldn't be pissed off for maintaining friendly relations with Napoleonic France

The US was wrong for thinking that it was their right to trade with countries at war without consequences. The US really wasn't doing anything illegal though, the British were just impressing sailors trading with France expecting the US to just bend over to them, which was kind of stupid considering that the US just fought a war to not bend over for Britain.

The US was pretty wrong about their assertions of what their "rights" were when trading, but Britain was more wrong for antagonizing US ships.

the bongs fucked up

>the bongs fucked up
Um...

>Brits get to dictate American foreign policy

talk shit get hit.

>Americans get to dictate everyone else's foreign policy
200 years later

>Stop stealing my dudes
>Also gib clay, all of it
Both of them I guess.

England

You can't fucking kidnap foreign nationals because you need more sailors.

>implying the glorious rule of the United States isn't destined to be from pole to pole and sea to sea

American Politicians.
>Let's invade canada
>Full of british loyalists and angry locals
>And the british army
>And the british navy
>With a few volunteer militias here who are kinda bored
Probably the most embarassing war of US history.

none of them complained when they took the King's shilling

What if America declared war at the high of the Napoleonic war, instead of after?

This is actually a smart post
Well done

Um, the US burned Toronto first, nigel.

Not much difference

The US destroyed the bongs in New Orleans, at the Battle of Lake Erie and up in Ontario at the battle of the River Thames (kek). It was so humiliating and comprehensive a defeat that the autistic Wellington himself told the retarded lordships to fuck off out of there as they'd failed completely everywhere, which they proceeded to do. It wasn't status quo ante, so ignore that bong propaganda. The bongs got spanked and would no longer have a military garrison North of the American border, or else.

The British were being giant dipshits, but I think the US went to war more out of opportunism than outrage.

It was a debacle for both sides. Britain's heavy-handed dealings with the US had been intended to aid them in the wars against France, and instead it opened a new complicated front for them to worry about. The US's expansionist goals backfired completely.

Stupid fucking war all around.

>19th century
>pissing off one of the world's greatest powers
This is like selling weapons to Iran today and not expecting the US to get pissed off

It literally was a status quo
The Battle of New Orleans didn't win the war it simply stopped the Brits from being able to demand territorial concessions, the US absolutely failed in their goal to take Canada.

Even Congress at the time voted against war with a big eye roll.

Cute, except the whole impressment claim was a load of BS used to justify war. The Americans basically thought they'd stroll in to a cheering rump-America waiting for their """liberation""". When Yankees attacked Quebec, they were literally surprised to be fired upon.

>what Americans actually learn

It gave you your anthem though, so I guess that's something to remember.

The war was officially already over when the Battle of New Orleans happened. Everything would've been returned to status quo had the Brits landed in the right place and pressed their advantage.

This was to Britain like Vietnam was to the US
Imagine the world superpower getting BTFOd by farmers with hunting rifles

America didn't conquer Canada so it was a British Victory

This is what leafs/bongs actually believe

Like the Roman LARPers you are you have this need to frame every war as defensive

The whole "impressment of US citizens" is a fair bit of a meme.
The truth was that the royal navy was reclaiming what were RN deserters.

However that's not to say that everyone they impressed wasn't someone who'd served their time fair and square or was never in the navy in the first place

>the whole impressment claim was a load of BS used to justify war
nice conspiracy theory

Do you know what "conspiracy theory" even means? This is pretty much open fact. A casus belli doesn't have to be accurate.

talk shit get hit.

Yes, the bongs attacked at both ends of the Mississippi, seeking to dominate North America, and were destroyed at both ends, which is why Wellington castigated the retarded aristocracy in London. The area North of the American border became a vassal state, garrisoned by nobody. Yes, there was territorial concession, de facto, and it came at gunpoint.

Andrew Jackson is an American hero

The Brits for not annexing their rebellious colony and massacring it's leadership

American.
One of the many grey areas of wars in history where both sides have partial blame. That being said, I dont really blame the British for anything its just consequences of trying to become a powerful nation wars must be fought.

See that Eddie "the eagle" Edwards? That's you that is
