Not really, except for the whole "no aircraft carriers allowed" thing which Russia just solves by building its "aircraft cruisers"
Gibraltar, Bosphorus, Dover, Malacca (not counting canals)
Honorable mention (in order of importance) goes to Bab el Mandeb, Hormuz, Messina, and *maybe* Zanzibar.

It's where most of the world's oil supply goes through.
What other strait does it compete with for that title? Literally none. Pipelines in the Levant and oil in Saudi Arabia have nothing to do with that damn strait.
Oil didn't become important until the 20th century. For most of history, petroleum was a completely worthless substance.
