start with 3x15 twice a week and go from there
and yes, it's better overall to split your reps up across the week for numerous reasons, mostly because if you do 120 reps of squats in one session you're going to kill yourself, literally/literally
hit the same muscles again as soon as they're recovered from it, if you're a beginner that can be every second day, starting strength works for a reason
if you do, say, back on monday and then don't touch it the rest of the week, you're wasting days you could be training it once it's recovered

Yes it matters because of the weight you would have to put on the bar to be able to do these many reps. You might as well curl your remote control 1 billion times you absolute goober.
