Most these assholes have horrible sleep habits and wonder why they are DYEL.
Sleep determines everything, most hormone regulation happens when you're asleep. Your brain needs it, your body needs it, and without it the negatives are worst than any conspiracy theory these morons can post.
One night of not sleeping optimally will effect you for days after. It will effect how you digest food, it will effect recovery, it will effect your efforts in the gym, it will effect libido, sperm production, heart resting, everything imaginable.
Stress is next on the list, long term stress will hurt you by deregulating hormones and body repair.
Macro ratios include overeating and undereating, nutrition is slightly below it in importance as you can go days without some nutrients before negatives begin to impact you. Some nutrition can take months to manifest.
Finally we get to actual physical activity.
Cardio is better for regulating hormones due to the effect of having a healthy heart. The better your heart the more regulated its heart beat. This constant pumping allows for the chemical markers in your body to be measured and for your body to respond accordingly. Working out follows close behind as muscle mass does slightly increase testosterone. However without the before mentioned you'll have a harder time building muscles to even increase testosterone.
You'd pretty much be fighting against yourself the whole time.

I didn't go to bed until 11 most nights when I was a teen and I am noticeably shorter and less built than my father.

People think it's testosterone (lack of it) that's causing the problem. While this can be true in some cases. Sleep is the bigger problem.
Lack of sleep promotes fat growth in the stomach and chest from over-saturation of the stress hormone Cortisol. This is now a multi part problem as sleep itself lowers testosterone, rise of cortisol lowers testosterone, and heart stress lowers testosterone.
The rest of it means nothing, as no amount of supplements will replace the negative amounts of testosterone from lack of quality sleep.

I have a sleep apnea machine and went from sleeping 5 hours a night to 10 hours most days.
I'm disabled so right now out of work and in physical rehab.
It's changed my life, test is skyrocketing after last year dropping to the lowest point of 300 ml/dcl.
Nothing raised my test more than a few points between doctors visits.
Since i started sleeping my test has jumped to 500. Doctor says it will probably keep going higher since i'm still in the first 6 months of using the machine. I'm 28 and feel like i'm 18 again.

I haven't managed to fix my lack of sleep, but I have been eating raw broccoli, garlic, spinach, cabbage and onions every day, eating other vegetables frequently as well, and had oats in the morning, minimising carbs and simple sugars and eating plenty of saturated fats for 2 weeks now and I feel much less prone to stress and am more domineering when talking to people as well as confident when socialising.
That's probably because of sugar's (excessive sugar) constant stimulation on the nervous system, which in my post you'll see stress is a huge factor in general health. Overstimulation stresses the body out, which fatigues the brain.
This probably has little to nothing to do with testosterone and more to do with you just not tweaking on excess sugars.
Vegetables also lower blood pressure because of the fats in them, slows the heart rate and relaxes the veins. Meaning you're less likely to have hypertension. Another stress indicator.
Testosterone doesn't fix itself overnight, it can take months and months to raise it even a little bit. However testosterone can fucking drop because of negative factors overnight.
Which is why I'm saying sleep is the biggest factor, not eating right can take weeks/months to drop test. One night of not sleeping right will fuck your test levels up for days after, even if you sleep right the next few nights.
