first for v o l u m e s q u a t s

one of u nigs help with my low bar squat pls

my wrist felt like exploding by wrapping thumbs around and thumbless had the bar pressing into the meat of my palm and hurt my thumb

i tried elbows up/down but i couldnt do any of that with my wrists feeling like death. should i just get wrist wraps?

Was Jim on plazma (tm) back then ?

Wider grip?

Get wrist wraps.

wider grip caused even more wrist rotation, grip for me rn is pinkies on ring, tried ring finger on rings but wrist bent even more, couldn't even get bar out of rack

sounds good, whats the best price for wraps (dont give a shit about "american made/local" shit that is 40$)
from what i see the inzer iron z wrist ones are 17$ for 36inches and the titan ones (unless i can jew a student discount) are a little bit more so ill prob go with inzer
mark bells and sbd are disgustingly expensive

Just squatted 405 for 8, I'm 170 at 5'11. How am I doing yall?

I dont fucking know how are you doing? Are you okay? Friends talk to you? You have a girlfriend, passion, work, maybe you study? Answer this questions yourself ffs

strongerbyscience.com/periodization-data/

TL:DR, periodization is a meme.

bench day today followed by OHP

Stop holding the bar up with your hands and get your back tight. This is a back issue, not a wrist issue.

R8 my lift my dude

>I'm 170 at 5'11

Eat more.

>405x8
>170lbs

talentchads get the fuck out

when i do high bar (only recently did low) my grip was pretty narrow, closer than rings and i got tight pretty easily but im not sure what im missing here for low bar...

I'm trying man, someday I'll be thicc

I just spend a lot of time at the gym desu, I feel like I'm going through a second puberty.

did you even read the article

>TL;DR
>didnt you read

you fucking mong

Why do DYELs keep always asking if I'm done using the squat rack?
>just finished my 4 1/2 rep warmup
>take a well earned break of 15 minutes
>alarm wakes me up from my power nap
>DYEL is standing over me and asks if im done
>tell him no I have 8 more sets
>he leaves
>do my 3 reps
>another one comes up to me in my well earned 15 minute break and asks if im done while im eating and rubbing my body with chalk
>mfw

What's wrong with them? My gym suitcase is clearly beside the squat rack.

Sorry I accidentally replied to myself. This was to (You)

kek this is why I hate 'powerlifters' at regular gyms

i mean, your eyes may have scanned the words, but you clearly didn't comprehend what was written

Get that upper back tight af ma man. Little bit of chalk on the shirt will help too.

Try harder

People legit get upset at my normie gym when I get on the bench.

>well earned 15 minute break

>what are deltoids

...

I will!

>combo-plate of bbq pork and fried shrimp with mac & cheese and fries

my only regrets is that I did not get a picture cause it was beautiful

>tfw taking the good bench to warm up to an @8 single then follow it with 3x8 of each tng bench, close grip bench and feet up bench

I can see people twitching.

>tfw no one asks to work in with you because they all normies and only the hocket bros bench more than 1 plate

>tfw there is no good bench to take at my gym
thank goodness it's the lift I give the least of a fuck about

Yeah pretty much, they're all normies with sub 2pl8 benches or they're roidmonsters and bench 405 for reps. Not much of an in between at my gym.

>if they bench 4 plates they must be on roids!

LOL

>I feel the need to interject into something even though I have absolutely no context to base what I'm saying off of

Don't you have a bottle of rye whiskey to be furiously chugging?

...

literally how the fuck do i get good at bench

been running int high 3x and still can't get to 315

>if they bench 4 plates they must be on roids!
I've never seen a 4 plate bench on anybody less than 250 lbs (in person), let alone natty.

I don't know, but if you find out can you let me know?

I literally do not know how either

don't hold your breath
nothing seems to make it move at all, my leverages are really really bad but i still should be able to hit 315 after 6 years of lifting consistently with powershitting programming

We can start a club. 300lbs for life.

hit 295 on a 1000 calorie deficit, couple months later on a small surplus i top out at 285

it's really just completely inexplicable, i know i'll never be a bench specialist with arms as long as mine but the lack of consistency is annoying

>tfw arm leverages are pretty good for bench and pretty okay for deadlift
>barely 3pl8 bench
>might b hitting 600lb deadlift in April

JUST

I'm about to join the deadlift twice my bench club.
Last training cycle I got +25 lbs on my squat and deadlift and a solid +0 lbs on my bench.

it's gotten better since but at one point i had a 205 bench and a 500 deadlift (right after SS)

I will say I was able to grind up 315 after hitting a 300 attempt but the spotter had to touch the bar, after a bench smolov jr, and I've since only been able to hit 285. Peaking is magical.

dude just bench more lmao

For natty guys under 220 lbs, who compete full power, 350 lbs on the bench is damn rare.

I just want that 2xbw bench

...

are you a twink

>thumbless had the bar pressing into the meat of my palm and hurt my thumb

Keep your wrists flat and elbows behind the bar. Not looping your thumb under isn't going to accomplish much if you wedge your arm under the bar and are supporting the weight with your wrists anyway.

uhh dont weightlifters use inzer/sbd knee wraps and knee sleeves all the time.

Not usually. When they do it tends to be similar to how PLers use light sleeves in training - the benefit to tight wraps or garbage bag sleeves isn't there since getting down ASAP is so important.

less frequently than PL competitors use them, but yeah WL competitors use wrist wraps, and knee wraps/sleeves. Arley Mendez was wearing some kind of knee wraps when he won the 85kg class in worlds last year, and I've seen a handful of people using SBD sleeves

I assume they're pretty strict about what knee wraps competitors can wear though

Name one (1) powerlift.

Clean and jerk world record
>weightlifting belt
>eleiko knee sleeves
>wrist wraps

...

weightlifting was in the same obscurity as powerlifting until crossfit commercialized it and it blew up.

bodybuilders tried the same with powerlifting but IPF/USAPL is so horny about drug testing that progress is slowed to a crawl.

nothing stopping them from joining one of the 600 other federations, is there?

Strict curl

>Don't stalk trannies.
If I say I have a peepee, will I get more guys asking me out?

Asking for a friend, of course.

Not really.

(modern) Bodybuilding never really had a shot at blowing up powerlifting the way crossfit did to weightlifting though. There's a lot more powerlifters than weightlifters and a lot fewer bodybuilders than crossfitters.

If anything, CF did more for powerlifting (and Strongman) than the standard 'bodybuilding' stuff did. A huge number of PLers these days got into it when they started lifting heavy to improve their crossfit performance and the lighter weight classes in Strongman have more former crossfitters than they do any other group. Did wonders for the availability of equipment as well once they dragged Rogue into things.

>Is an incel, thinks women get in the way of his goals
That's a volcel retard.

>what is smolov jr
I too have yet to hit 315, max so far is 300 paused @175 poons, bit over 1 1/2 years of lifting when I hit that so I might just be a bench chad. But smolov jr brought my max from 260-300 in one training cycle. Focus on pause reps the first week, then move to half pause/half tngo second week, with the third week being all tngo. Also, eat enough food and do mobility work to keep your shoulders healthy

Well seeing as most of crossfit is strongman conditioning with bitch weights it makes sense

I'll add before I get shit on
it is of course a peaking program and strength will taper off after, but it'll still add pounds to your bench

If his results end up being like most peoples on the program (assuming he completes it) he'll lose a huge chunk of that PR once he goes back to regular training.

Peaking is a motherfucker like that.

Reeee I really need to change up the way I program bench, but I dunno how

>2.5 years training
>110kg bench

I've tried smolo, c6w, sheiko, texas, my own programming

Bench has been on a standstill for over a year. Do I just need to eat more??

Either not enough food/rest or just bench gde.

CrossFit more or less kept powerlifting alive and has generally achieved more for the popularity of all strength sports in the past 10 or so years than actual strength sports organisations managed in the last 25. I just wish they’d had the sense to wait to repopularise weightlifting until after the last handful of ‘real’ weightlifters does it retired because that whole sport is cancer.

Actually they do. I guess it depends on where you live though.

More often USPA is offering money meets. I've seen some advertised in california. Kind of like winning money at bodybuilding shows. From what I understand there are still some multi-ply meets that offer a few hundred bucks here and there.

You'll likely never hear about any of them outside of the US open because the most popular meet on social media is USAPL raw nationals bar none. Even though the attendance is so high and only primetime matters.

I guess it doesn't help that bodybuilding in itself is difficult to even say you participate in it. Meanwhile even the least athletic soccer mom can join a crossfit box and will without a doubt be exposed to weightlifting.

There's a few multi-ply money meets. Some maniac has even managed to resurrect the WPO. Fuck knows if that'll work but more power to the crazy bastard.

Big money - by powerlifting standards, so literal pocket change half the time - is in the raw super meets like RRR, Pro Raw and so on. But most of those are invitationals so they'll never have the kind of presence Nationals can get thanks to everybody and their dog showing up to compete.

Thank fuck they're looking at raising the qualifying totals similar to how USAWL did.

>tfw strongman and Highland games will never become national past times

Powerlifting is fun and all but strongman Is way more fun. Yoke, stones and log is way more fun than squats, deads and cleans. Anons if you ever get a chance go and compete at your local Scottish festival it's cheap entry and the bros there will teach you everything. Seriously tossing 56 lbs up over your head or using a pitchfork to toss sheafs of hay is amazing.

>crossfit kept powerlifting alive

uh. that's just plain false, and doesn't make sense. Crossfit has no effect on equipped lifting and the raw division hasn't existed very long, and raw is what got more people into it. There has and always will be equipped lifters. If anything high school powerlifting kept the sport alive. High school meets are insanely packed and it's equipped only. Then they graduate and just do more meets equipped.

Strongman is also a lot easier to train for. I know a fair few people who totally lost interest in PL once they got strong enough that they had to plan training cycles far enough out that only 2/3 meets a year was practical. They now do strongman and compete in like a contest every month or two.

I entirely agree strongman is super cool and fun. But it's difficult to find a gym with real strongman stuff and way to expensive to make/collect as a hobby.

I had a talk with a friend and we both concluded if you're not within 100lbs~ of the winning total in a respective weight/division you should not be able to get into a national meet. The attendance is way out of hand.

Strongman is fun but the barrier to entry is a lot higher.

Getting lower now that the equipment is more common and made in sizes other than obese hippo. But it's still rough for people to get into.

Sorry m8 but nobody except equipped lifters give a shit about equipped lifting. Powerlifters and weightlifters have one gigantic blind spot in common and it’s the fact that they think the things that appeal about the sport to them are the things that the broader base care about as well. you’d be an idiot to think that the huge upsurge in the popularity of raw didn’t have something to do with millions of normies being introduced to barbells by crossshit.

As much as all my strongman buddies disagree but I only honestly think you need 1500 total before getting comfy in strongman.

1500 isn't exactly 'only' if you're not an openweight.

it didn't matter if anyone gave a shit about equipped lifting because that was the entire sport and there was no raw division to lift in. You either figured out gear or ended up last place.

the popularity of raw came from random jacked gym bros finding out they could compete with shit they do on the regular by seeing it on the internet. Most USPA lifters are pretty much just that.

This is common knowledge among people who have been involved in the sport for a long time. I'm not an idiot I just saw it happen in real time.

Outside of omega manlets sub 5"7 shouldn't too bad of a total in your base building years.

yesterday i did 20kg overheadpress

Pls be typo and 200kg

no it was 20kg

ten of them three times. 200kg overhead press is impossible for a human to do

Are you a female

It has been done

m.youtube.com/watch?v=3nJrYPVJ88M
I'd post alexeev as well but his is very very oly pressy

By which we mean it was a blatant push press.

Hell of a presser and strong motherfucker overall but that lift is a prime example of why the press had to go.

>blatant push press
>his knees don't unlock
There is no reason to be such a brainlet youtube has an option to slow it down to 0.25 if you're too stupid.

I was talking about Alexeev and his 500. Not Serge, who didn't push press. At least not that time. Just about everyone from that era had a few loose ones slip through.

I gotcha, yeah alexeevs 507 was pretty much a mini push press, guess this is the power of cold war and corrupted judging.

How do you tell if you're trying hard enough?

Probably when you get owies but that could also be due to being stupid/

It's easier to tell on video. The difference between an aggressive hip flick and a bit of leg drive is tough to see when there's a bit of distance and you're trying to catch it plus any other problems in real time.

Also political judging and badly written/interpreted rules. The inability to ever nail down an actual enforceable (and enforced full stop) set of rules on the press killed it as a competition lift.

TFW intensive phantom back pain

I'm a phantom cripple D:

I'll trade you. Fucked my back up front squatting one fucking plate. Three weeks later and it's still healing.
