Music taste is subjective and yet i feel compelled to tell everyone hating on DT that they're objectively wrong. Probably because they couldn't pull off half the songs they play. Whether you like the music or not, they are extremely seasoned and talented musicians. I really don't get the hate for prog. All the complaints I hear are basically whiny versions of the reasons i like prog

If it's artfully done (dream theater), guitar noodling can be wonderful and pleasant thing to listen to. When its not (slayer), i get it.
Perhaps I'm partial to the extreme effort i see in this genre because im a musician and identify with how seriously difficult the music they perform is. It's something not everyone can understand. The effort put into half the music produced popularly these days is just shit in comparison. Mostly overproduced garbage and samples thrown together on a computer. Not saying that music can't be good, but musicians of Petrucci's or Rudess' caliber dwarf the average DJ who knows how to use garageband.
