When to use straps on deadlift

Hello friends. About at what weight on the ol diddly is it socially acceptable to use straps. I've been doin them for about 4 months now and went from ~185lbs for reps to 275lbs for 5 no straps. Got some straps a few days ago and tested my max with them to be 365lbs. Told myself I'll get a 500 DL by the end of the year start of 2018 but now it looks like I may get it earlier.

tbqh i dont really care what other people think of me for using straps at baby weight but my DYEL gym buddy who can barely do 2pl8 for a 1RM always bugs me about it.

you should kill yourself

Forgot to add the only reason I'm using them right now is because my hands get really sweaty and it's near impossible to grip the bar past 275lbs even with hook grip. I usually just used mixed but even then when the bar slipped it fucked my form up in my back

Ive already tried twice family but pussied out when I thought how devastated my parents and siblings would be. Only reason I go to the gym is to improve my mental state and if I somehow drop the bar on bench and neck myself so be it

When you don’t want to gain forearm muscle and want to be an even bigger faggot

When you tear a callous, have tendonitis or are too much of a pussy to be strong enough to hold on to the barbell anymore.

Whenever you want.

I work my forearms with other things though, deadhangs, shrugs, wrist rope rolly things. Seems a bit counterintuitive to focus so much on forearm gains on deadlift when it works the rest of the body ie. you can see more gains in the rest of the body with straps but less gains in forearm compared to less gains in the rest of the body slightly more gains in forearm

Hey man had same problem. I assume you are doing 3x full body? Just work up strapless until your heaviest set then use straps if they are holding the weight back.

Also if you are 3x full body on your off days do grip training. I have been following this grip training routine on my off days and it's working great.

Normally holding on wouldnt be an issue but when I start to get into my working sets my hands get really sweaty and I have 0 friction, cant even hold onto my fingers let alone the bar

Serious answer OP; try and avoid straps. work on grip, work on forearms use chalk. Straps are a crutch you don;t want to lean on.

Just use hook grip.

Yea thats what i do, once i get to 275 my grip starts to fail so I use straps then + more forearm work ofcourse

Get chalk too for when that happens. I rarely use straps for any kind of pulling but chalk is an every day use item in the gym.

doesnt work for me once i get to working sets i sweat like a mother

CHALK

thanks user ill try it out but i go to really normie 75% cardio machine type gym so I'll have to bring my own chalk

A lot of it is also to do with finger type. Usually shorter fatter hands have difficulty with grip. e.g. mine... Fuck genetics haha!

Do whatever you want. Punch your buddy in the throat.

nah mate i have pretty skinny small pianist type hands but sometimes i sweat enough to prune my fingertips

>tfw also wristlet

If sweating is the problem, you could invest in some chalk. I'm not judging, and I like that you don't care what people think, but using chalk and no straps, you'll probably see forearm gains. Besides that, the more you dl without straps, the more you CAN dl without straps.

dont even need to i mog the cunt on a daily basis cause all he does is arms every day + ohp and bench once a week. ive tried telling him to do more compounds but he won't listen to me and when he sees how much more I lift than him he just goes into denial and says I'm cheating by using straps on diddly, taking creatine etc. we're same bw, started training same time hes just 2 inches taller than me

I just wanna see him and all my other gym bros succeed man but all they do is meme routines

I really wouldn’t do that. It’s too much of a crutch. Try a mixed grip or hook grip instead and see if that gives you any more success without the straps.

When you're tired of your grip getting in the way of training your posterior chain.
Seriously, I snatch, clean, deadlift, row, and do pull ups. I wear straps for my heavy deadlifts and snatch deadlifts. The heaviest I've ever deadlifted in competition still was 15kg more than I had ever done with straps in training.
Deadlifts are not a grip exercise. They require grip, but if they're all you do for grip training, you're shooting yourself in the dick.

First, get chalk

Otherwise don't be afraid to use em for your top set(s) on deadlift

Fucking based dude.

nice as fuck m8

>inb4 sumo

i've never used straps. I can get 315 for 5 double overhand, but I start to have some real issues around 4th and 5th rep and need to reset my hands. I can get 365 for 3 with mixed but im barely holding on at that point and 415 for a max and my hands hurt like hell at that point...

do straps really make that much of a difference?
how about a weight belt?... i've never used one of those either.

the only thing I was really seeing was the roastie in back was letting us look down her shirt

you shouldn't use straps because you should be training your grip too.

I've never been to a gym that allows chalk.

Who gives a fuck about it being socially acceptable? Figure out your goals, figure out how straps play into them (or how they don't) and go from there.

Because there's literally no weight someone won't bitch about you using straps on.

my hands get sweaty as fuark too. just get chalk. if your gym doesnt allow chalk you can get liquid chalk.

Why the fuck do people use chains? It is just to look cool or do they serve some kind up purpose?

Multiple purposes depending on how you use them.

Typically for strength or hypertrophy purposes they're used to smooth out the strength curve so the whole rep is (more or less) equally hard rather than being a motherfucker at the bottom and then everything after that being a formality.

They're also used sometimes to help train speed/power.

Like most aids they will inflate you numbers by shifting what muscle group is limiting your lift to an already stronger one. Do you lift for high numbers or for even strength?
Social acceptability depends on your lifting peer group.

liquid chalk maybe? there are some that leave stains on the bar tho, so make sure you get the right one

sumo gay faggot shit
