Lads, how long did it take you to get the hang of the lifts? Had my first coaching session this week, and the pt said that it took him 2 months (and he's a big guy). How often would you recommend seeing a coach? He gave me some advice for now and said that if I see him and he is free I can ask him to form check, etc.

depending on breathing and if my grip needs adjustment.
shouldn't take too much longer for a hang lift opposed to floor...

at 93kg clean you should be able to get under
if you're more comfortable doing that then it's not a huge deal, but defo work on getting under more.

Did I say mastered, I just said the hang of it... Plus I've seen him lift, he's good. He even admitted he cannae clean that good, so he definitely isn't claiming to have mastered the lifts.

Anyone use a narrow grip in the snatch? Are there any cons besides having to pull the bar higher? Right now I practice technique with 40 kgs and it really makes my hands hurt between the thumb and the index finger. I have tried releasing the hook grip and that doesn't seem to help. I feel like the pain is holding me back. Maybe my wrists aren't flexible enough for such a wide grip?

You're full blown retarded. But that's just from the perspective of somebody who's been in weightlifting for 4 or 5 years.

It takes about a year if you're getting coached 4 days a week by an international caliber coach and you're naturally athletic.

on snatch you brought your hips to the bar instead of bringing the bar to your hips and thus you banged it off the hip and it was left out forward on snatch

check the bar path in slow 1/4 speed it arches away from you and you are left in an unstable position

same issue on clean but to lesser extent

The classic lifts are lifts that you improve over your entire lifetime. "getting the hang of" depends on the individual and their starting mobility, flexibility, coordination, and athleticism. Also their dedication to training. So anywhere between 6-12 months to get beginner level comfortable/confident with the technique.

How do I fix this? Just keep practicing vertical bar path?

Been lifting for a year and a few months now. I still can't snatch to depth but I think it's mostly due to already ingrained movement patterns. I'm bad with foot placement and wrist turnover during the catch. I can pull pretty decently. Max snatch is 70, could easily snatch 80 if I clean my technique up and get full extension and proper catch.

Clean is alright but extension could be better. I can power clean 100 if I was more precise (due to catching the bar pretty high). Current clean max is 100 but I have room for about 10 or 20kgs more. Jerk is still shit. Coach wants me to both keep my back straight but not do the cue that I need to keep my torso straight when driving for the jerk. Really inconsistent. Max jerk is 95kgs.

I'd say you're probably pushing somewhat close to the end of that strength reserve

cause you can pretty much always clean and jerk what you can front squat for a triple atleast as a general rule

I will never contradict what anyones coach tells them to do but I'd imagine once your tech gets to where he is momentarily satisfied he will run a strength cycle on you cause if you can only front squat 120 at maximal effort your clean and jerk wont be much higher

Do you guys find that breaking the floor in deadlifts is much easier since you guys do so many pseudo deficit pulls?

Haven't done a lot of strength work lately. Just lower intensity stuff at 80% doubles 85% doubles and 90% singles. I train bulgarian and coach was on the bulgarian national team.

I'd really prefer a block dedicated to hypertrophy and strength because I've stalled and regressed quite a bit already. Had my best lifts in late December and haven't gotten back to it yet.

No because the deadlift is a different exercise with a different starting position/levers and a much larger weight. My max clean pull is still 40 kilos below my deadlift.

yeah I fortunately have a strength background so I don't have to worry about building that for quite a while, I'm making noteable technical progress though with these cycles my coach has me on so I'm happy about that

I powersnatched 81 last saturday and clean and jerked 115 with a miss at 120 cause my dip drive was too short

I've got quite a bit more strength to put into those numbers lol

if its any indication how much strength I have left, this is the bar popping off my shoulders when I stood up a clean the other day, only 108 loaded but still

After moving to college, i went sedentary for a while (~1yr) after following a weightlifting routine.

started lifting again a couple months ago, doing mostly strength training with compounds and i'm nervous about my knees.

not sure if there's any signs of weak knees, but i occasionally get pain while squatting a certain way, and other times not. have any of you experienced this? any advice or wise words?

why would you though? my pop is about as high as my eyes maybee(?) and i can clean and jerk more than you

bulgarians train 12 times a week and do only classic lifts and squats you'd die doing it

What are your stats? Unless you snatch >1.25x bw, you should have more variation. More lifts from knee, from blocks, without feet and so on.
