I am also curious as to where to find a proper Yoga routine to do between lift days. But I don't have instagram because I'm not a tremedous faggot.
Isaiah Ortiz
I tried to get the side splits for like 3 months stretching for 30mins to an hour every day, literally made like 0 progress despite pushing myself to the point of extreme discomfort.
Are some people just incapable of becoming flexible
Henry Hughes
Maybe you sit too much, that will lock you up good

Yoga teacher and lifter here.
There are lots of things if you google "yoga for weightlifters". Also, everyone always thinks that yoga is simply "stretching". Nothing could be further from the truth.
Yoga is actually control of your mind. Yoga is training your focus and internal will to do whatever task you want to do at that time. You know how, when you're lifting something super heavy, you see nothing else around you? Your attention is on your body, your muscles, and the weight? And how, when you focus more intently on that lift, you can perform it? THAT is yoga.
Of the eight limbs of yoga, only two are physical: asana (the stretchy stuff) and pranayama (breathing). A good, complete yoga class/practice, though, will have some meditation and mental focus practice in it, too.
I'd strongly suggest that everyone who lifts hit a yoga class two to four times a month. Try different teachers and studios. Find a teacher you like and just go. Any basic "asana" or "hatha yoga" or "beginner" level class will be attainable. No, you don't have to be flexible; you'll get more flexible. And you'll get stronger, mostly in your stabilizing muscles, and for longer holds. And your focus will likely improve, which improves anything you put your mind to.
It's not proper for a good Christian boy to take part in religious rituals that are not Christian.

I'm not into eastern spiritualism. I had an Uncle who joined a Buddhist temple and they sodomized him. But I dig the mental discipline aspect.
Dylan Nelson
1) You're a stupid faggot. 2) Yoga isn't religious. It's a set of tools to be used for whatever you want to use it for. If that's to masturbate to your god, so be it.
Asher Murphy
Leave. Now.

The answer is sort of but its worth pursuing anyway.
T. Went on a threw year journey for flexibility gains thru yoga and other methods.
Glad I did it as I was once v immobile and now have at least average if not "decent" flexibility in some areas. It also stays with me so it's quite loyal.
Literally tho it's like wearing down a stone. It's get easier as u do it more, so it's opposite to weights and cardio which show best gains at the early stages.
Worth doing. But it's a fuckin pain in the ass. Recently went back to aerobic training and calisthenics and tfw actually making linear progress. Going thru a sort of resentful stage in my flexibility relationship rn with it.
Hope that helped give u perspective. Sorry if its bloggish
Oliver Powell
I actually get what u mean. I was uncomfortable chanting things I didn't understand. Literally felt spiritually bothered by it. Just don't join in if that begins
Elijah Perry
Yoga is fundamentally religious and part of Hinduism though.
Maybe if you're a nonbeliever you think this is inconsequental since it's all meaningless, but for most people that isn't the case.

My brother has OCD and Bipolar would yoga be beneficial for him?

You're wrong. And I've been a Christian and yoga teacher. I have training, knowledge, and experience of both. And you're wrong.

Doubt you'll gain any direct strength/mass without doing some really advanced shit. That being said, You'll probably get a lot better balance and core stability.

also a teacher here and weight lifter. AMA
you can built muscle with yoga yes. like doing push up and shit ups and chin up and all those body weight exercises build muscle. manflowyoga on youtube is good. i suggest if you want "hard" yoga do ashtanga yoga or find a power class. a tough class will kick anyones ass. couple things. some peoples bones are shaped in a way where they will never do some stretches or pose in yoga. secondly, 3 months is not that long a period for mega gains in flexibility. keep going. this guy knows what he is talking about. also this

Story pls

i wanted to answer these separately. 1). how are they religious to you? yoga is proven mind set to improve your life, not to get you into heaven 2). think of chanting before or after a class as a "toast" before you drink a beer with a friend. its a way to say thank you and have a good practice.
namaste literally means "i bow to you"
William Parker
>yoga is a proven mind set to improve your life. its not about getting you into heaven my bad

>namaste literally means "i bow to you" Yea i cant do it then. Sucks because i just joined a gym that has classes included.

I did two free yoga classes. It was great and calm. It was outdoors and that made it nicer 20% is "to give it a try", 40% because is related to meditation, and meditation is related to mindfulness, with I'm interested in; and other 40% because "it must be great to fuck a girl who does yoga" (I am a girl) I almost fell asleep in the last minutes of my second class

I like tripping people out.. Im 215.. solid muscle. Most guys my size you see with the hunched shoulder neanderthall look. Between the deadlifts/yoga and stretching, not only are my shoulders not rounded, and problem free.. I have good posture, and can even bust out full splits/headstands.. ect. If your lifting, and not working on your flexibility you are crippling yourself imho.
Ryder Myers
I don't know him that well and he understandably doesn't like to talk about it. Whats funny is he renounced Catholicism for it.

Yes you can put on mass (albeit a little) with yoga, and yes it's good for flexibility.
If they have any a significant amount of muscle mass odds are they are at a minimum doing body weight exercises or actually lifting.
Benefits of yoga for a lifter and better recovery due to stretching, flexibility, and easier ability to achieve a mind muscle connection.
Josiah Baker
I'm pretty sure your trolling but; Christianity and yoga are not incompatible.
Noah Martin
i don't know why everyone is bitching at you
he's right there are some yoga classes with the bullshit "energy" nonsense. like "move your energy to your palms and feel the energy moving through your body" etc. all that shit is spiritual/religious/cult-like but you can find yoga instructors that just focus on the movements and the relaxation side of things and they aren't dumb enough to buy into that energy crap

yoga to a lesser extent, mindfulness for sure. Mindfulness meditation/thought is fucking huge for mental health.
Brandon Gomez
I'll definitely keep it up since I have fucked proportions that make ultrawide squatting my best stance so I keep stretching for side splits so that it's even possible. I stopped for like two weeks due to an illness and coming back trying my old width caused adductor cramps so bad I had to stop. Made me realize I needed to keep up my stretching or I'd lose it.
Angel James
Any good online resources for beginner yoga? I want to start daily flexibility stuff but I'm too poor to take classes.
I want to spend 30-60 minutes each morning doing yoga, any tips?
