Fun.

Paying offhis student loan.

Her own life.

For violence.

No, not the grotesque and repugnant violence of the strong beating up on the weak, not the torture an
No, it is the violence against odds that should be celebrated, it .

There are two kinds of violence.
The first one is the "childish curiousity" violence, which encompasses torture and "strong against the weak", the fight without any realy potential tangible consequences.
The second one is the brute "animalistic" violence. It embodies the fight for survival, the willingness to commit necessary atrocities just to survive.

Since time immemorial, we always rooted for the underdog. The gladiator fights in the Coliseum, the peasant uprisings going against the military, the underground fight clubs of the modern days.

There is something inherently beautiful in the fight of the underdog.
There is something inherently attractive in seeing a man fight against odds, to see the violence commited for the sake of it, to see it done professional and polite - after all, there is nothing more polite than takeing your opponent seriously, right?

Not dragging your feet when fighting with him.
That is what we call true chivalry and true sportsmanship.
Arbitrary rules have nothing to do with it, it's the fact that both opponents take each other seriously and fight for their very lives.

That is what my character is fighting for.
For that pure, unrestrained and "chivalrous" animalistic violence.

GIMME THE LOOT, GIMME THE LOOT!

For the giggles.

Originally it was acclamation of wealth but now it's to save the world. It's where he keeps all his stuff.

To be inspired and protect my family

For a world where kids can play under the sun without a care in the world.

His family and crew

It's not on purpose. Someone keeps telling him to quit hitting himself while punching him with his own fist.

All a part of a day's work being a martial.

He fights to restore the glory of his dead clan

Revenge

Self presarvation.

Oh hes a straight cunt alright but you betcha he wont go for his gun without threaths to his life.

To be a better fighter. Nothing short of perfection in one's chosen field is acceptable, for it is an unreachable aspiration that shall stave off sloth until his dying days.

Songs.

Beer and Titties.

My current character fights because Dark Souls 3 isn't gonna finish itself.

My last proper character didn't fight because necromancer have minions doing that for them. But he did try to become Public Enemy #1, because it sounded awesome. It only got him killed like a little bitch.

Originally, it was to avenge his wife. Then it was to save his wife.

Now... he's sworn too many oaths, he can't turn his back on them (well, he could have done so... but he's not the kind of duck to betray an oath just because of it no longer binding him)

To save anyone who's in danger (as a Paladin of the life god), and to prove himself worthy to the who thinks he shouldn't have born and that he brings shame on his knight title by the fact he's a half-elf.

Because I have a very scary boss who'll have me lobomitzed if I don't keep killing his enemies.

He's supposed to be one of the good guys.

For the sake of her beloved. Necromancy-- What could possibly go wrong?

A cold beer, some warm pussy, and a place to shit with a door on it.

He's not entirely sure anymore.

He started off as just a regular warrior, making ends meet for his family. Then he ended up befriending the wrong lunatics, being named as the great liberator of his people, accidentally saving everyone and almost getting eaten by a spider goddess.

Now he's on the run, fleeing into the heartland of the evil empire, because no one would look for him there, living a hunter gatherer lifestyles with a magical cripple, his best friend and healer, and his horse.

He's not sure what the hell he's going to do when he gets there, because until recently, he'd never left the savannah.

My character is fighting for a child's destiny.

He was born with no many options. No education, and forced to survive on his own. If he hadn't met a strange old hermit, he probably wouldn't have made it as far as he did.

Half-Orcs have bad reputation. And are often stereotyped. He is a stereotype. He is dumb, ugly and stupid. And all he wants is to hell people.

There's a half orc child that is being sold to an army. They will raise him to be like him. He wants to see that child choose its own future and not have it chosen for him.

To get the recognition and power to set himself up as a noble far away from the farm he was going to inherit.

obviously a girl worth fighting for

Fighting is the ultimate destiny of all living things, so asking why he fights for is the height of foolishness.

As the DM, the BBEG fights for two reasons:
>1) He believes his enemy is an even worse person than he is- and he has a very low opinion of himself, given the second reason.
>2) He accepted an offered position as the physical champion of a powerful Evil god in exchange to be re-united with his pregnant wife (no, seriously), and to make sure nobody else took the spot. Now he has to fight on behalf of a Lawful Evil god of war who's been forgotten for eons and is very eager to spread his renewed worship.
Given what happens if he loses, he's VERY intent on winning.

Because someone paid him to.

Do you know what the plural of "pussy" is?

He fights for his people their culture and civilization over barbarity and ignorance

To spread the glory of Kord and protect the weak, both through fist-punches and word-punches

Because there's sociopaths with superpowers and powerbombing them is the best way to un-superpower them.

He's the chosen disciple of a goddess of Blacksmiths, so he's been given the task of going to strange lands, learn how to make their weapons, and then kill wicked people with those weapons. He's having the time of his life.

He does it for hometown. Ass.

Wew, I was just listening to that.

>tfw the main antagonist are British-Indian necrophiliacs

Revenge for the loss of his testicles.

On a basic level, the damaged remains of some ancient aliens every so often start to effect the location where they were destroyed and improperly disposed of, and can become like monsters. It falls to the group, as headed by two of the still living aliens, to find when and where this happens and properly deal with them. Supposedly there is a bigger danger to the planet itself, though my character doesn't really believe that and thinks it's the alien characters worrying too much, so just helps out with the usual alien remains cleanup or alien site maintenance, largely because he gets dragged along but also because he doesn't want people getting hurt if he can help prevent it.

The only one who loves him.

For sauce on that pic.

There are perks for fighting for the adventurers' guild, so she does odd jobs in her quest to visit every mountain view.

Money.

He swore a solemn oath to obtain vengeance for his father's death or die trying, and he can't go home until either the former or latter happens.

Nothing and unfortunately he has nothing else but fighting.

Knowledge

Truth, justice, and the American way.

In reality: To work through his midlife crisis. Supers setting.

Honor and respect.

What show is this? Some iteration of Kamen Rider? I love those outfits.

Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight. It was an attempt to bring Kamen Rider to western audiences.

It's Ryuki, the one that got turned into Dragon Knight in 09 or so. Watch 13 Riders first to get a vague idea of things, since it takes place independent from the show.

...

For peace. By killing as many of the Emperor's foes as he can. At least until he finds a way to unfuck the Imperium. Alas, he's not really a thinking man, so his goal shall forever elude him.

I fight for my friends.

>my sides

Kazumasa Takayama's Chronowar.

A house wife, a cop and a murderer are hit by a fallen communication satellite and gain za warudo powers

I believe it's 電夢時空 by 高山和雅.

To save his daughter

After becoming an elan, living became something like waiting in a line. The need to eat done away with by psionic sustenance, and the need to sleep replaced by four hours of, not meditation, but absence-- a psychic vacancy into the subconscious, where the only stimuli are internal.

My character was chosen by a council, and changed. Having lived another thirty years without aging past thirty, there was a flurry of Dorian Gray hedonism, which was mostly gambling. Dog fights and pit fights, and slave fights. The latter had him indentured on a farm for a time as punishment.

What he misses most is dreaming. When his party sleeps through th night, he sits there listening to their breathing, wishing he could sleep.

Only some things make him feel alive again. Not killing, not psionic powers, or even the fight-or-flight of adrenaline in battle; it is only the power of fear. Only seeing terror in open eyes makes his heart race. Only commanding fear gives him a sense of control.

This man uses his powers erratically, and without congress-- he relishes the finger on the trigger, aimed at everyone around him. Even the party. One by one he's opening doors in their minds while they rest. Doors he can use at a whim. Doors just big enough for a carful thrust ...

Not that he intends to kill his companions; one day soon, in a stolen hour of respite, he will glide through those open doors and visit, uninvited. Just to let them know they can't lock him out. He hopes they dream about him. He scarred his face, thinking about it.

tl;dr Angsty, seeking to become nightmares.

Going by your wording, I assume the attempt failed miserably.
Oh good, it being independent is a plus

Porn.

There's some other things in there, like food and ammunition and repair money.

But for the most part, porn.

In the hopes of settling down with a qt shopkeep waifu he might meet on the adventure. They would have ferrets as pets.

That reminds me, I need to make that mysterious traveling saleswoman for my setting.

Does she have a lot of good things on sale, stranger?

Is some PC going to get a shopkeep waifu of their own? Please DM, they deserve it.

>Going by your wording, I assume the attempt failed miserably.
That'd be about what he meant, yea. It replaced assholes with superpowers that had to keep their superpower-giving monsters fed with aliens and alternate realities.

My character is fighting to try and meet a Space Marine like the ones his dad told him about, except he'll probably meet a Malevolents or something instead.

That depends on what you want to buy... just adventurer's supplies, keep your eyes up.
In my setting, the original merchant and goddess of merchants was mother to part of the old pantheon- and is known to the less subtle as the goddess of whores because she met her husband after hearing about his crafting abilities and hoping she could sell his wares for him- he was the god of fire and had a mean temper, so everyone else was too scared of him even to try and steal his wealth. It ended up working out.

Not really, unless they actively try for it.
Wouldn't surprise me for one of my players.

SMUG
CYBORGS

The first reason is always boredom. Sometimes meatspace can have some laughs.

The second reason is nuyen.

The third is for the purposes of Cyberarchaeology.

He is a soldier. He fights because he was ordered to.
He knows what he does isn't good, or just. But, it is needed. So he fights because he was ordered to. Because he has nothing else, except his orders.
So, he'll go, and he'll fight, and he'll fight.
And he'll keep going, and keep fighting. Because he must, because he was ordered.
Sometimes, the world doesn't need a hero.
Sometimes, what it needs is a soldier.

Because if he doesn't, he'll be executed.

Btw, why is that chick a walking toolshed?

For revenge against the underling who framed him and tried to have him killed.

In the beginning he fought to prove his worth to his father.

Then he fought for himself to forget his loss.

He fought for his newfound friends as it was the only way he could show he cared.

He fought for a nation and its people and led her armies against the agents of a dark god.

He fought for his own soul alone in the blackest pit of Hell.

He fought for his love and his family.

He fought for his people as chieftain after watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren pass on as the years wore on in defiance of merciful death.

Now 500 years later this son of a shepard has aged and withered beyond the natural age of any man. He has forgotten his name, his home, his achievements. He can no longer recall the face of his wife nor his children. But despite the weight of unnatural years his hands still speak of strength.

He now fights as it is the only thing he knows how to do.

For the Emperor.

For a religion he took a little to far to the point of fanatical extreamism

to survive on an uncharted island along with his peers

Did people struggle with this in the medieval ages and well basically before the 21st century.

Money. He's a mercenary so that's kind of the whole purpose of fighting.

Did you mean why he needs money that badly? He's trying to make enough to move back to the core worlds and set himself up with a nice business to retire and run.

For Truth, Liberty and Justice

On all levels except physical
I am an Arleigh Burke class Guided Missile Destroyer

[Tomahawk Lock Klaxon Intensifies]

But what is Truth, Liberty and Justice?

Truth is a river.

Liberty is as much freedom the people can be afforded whilst still maintaining social cohesion.

Justice is blind.

What kind of business?

To give the universe one more day, one day at a time.

At first it was for king and country. Was best friends with the royal family after saving their daughter and served in the royal guard.

Now it's for the complete genocide of a race of anthro creatures. GM had these things go around raiding towns, killing the men and taking the women. Then they'd drug them and impregnate them to increase their numbers. Due to some bullshit magic the babies were born and grew up in a matter of weeks. After a few towns were hit, they had an army of these things. Then they hit the castle at night. They killed the king and kidnapped the queen and her daughter. I was separated from the party and was left almost dead. After we got all healed up, we basically rallied who we could and led a scorched earth campaign against them. It took a month real time, but we managed to solid snake our way into a camp they were holding prisoners in. I was just to go in, and get them out while the party kept a look out/stole all their gold. I saw the queen and her daughter, along with a score of other women, all pregnant and drugged out of their minds. Their eyes were blank and they just laid there mouths open and bodies limp. Instead of trying to get them out, I granted them mercy by killing them. Then I stepped outside the tent and Leroy Jenkins'd the whole camp. I lost an eye, and the party was beat to hell. After I told them what I saw we made a vow to wipe that race off the face of the planet. Session ended there and GM was not pleased with my choice.

The money, power, perks, and the writ from the king (done in public at an international ball with the lawful stupid "breaking contracts is tantamount to cardinal sins" commie country reos present no less) saying my mercenary band will receive royal sponsorship and himself a dukedome if he helps this band of adventurers accomplish their task
not to mention the kids have grown on him with their jokes and naïveté

To survive the dragon apocalypse

Money, fame, power, and becoming the most feared paladin in the world, protecting his home by the sheer terror of his reputation alone, and the brutal yet righteous murder of anyone who thinks they're hard enough to take him.

To kill the god he was revived to kill.

Then kill the god who dared give him an order.

...

For the dead[ish] gods, her mother, and the realm.

Fighting to be free of another PC semi-BBEG. He's helping some of the others of the party to escape from her as well, but his prime motivation is himself.

Frank Castle

To save his mom and for the good of everyone

Yep. Chaucer's self-insert in Canterbury Tales mentions how he's always very grateful to his friends for buying him books so he can go to school.

Though it would also vary a lot based on where you were and when exactly we're talking about. Early on, wealthy and middle-class nobles pooled together money to hire teachers and those were the beginnings of "universities."

A dragon apocalypse, it's so simple yet I've never thought of it straight up before.

What is the good of everyone?
