>QM Do you think that subconsciously you project your fears and biases in your quest?
>Player Have you ever cringed at something that your QM or other players wrote?
Well, yeah. How you think, feel, believe, and experience affects your b writing. How can it not?
Matthew Sanchez
>Do you think that subconsciously you project your fears and biases in your quest?
I am fucking fearless.
Biases, though, oh yeah all the time
Jordan Taylor
>Player, Have you ever cringed at something that your QM or other players wrote?
Oh god yes, Its my job to shitpost not theres. If I need to be the serious one we have major issues. We had that issue with one of the lastest quests I was in.
Mason Ramirez
>Player A lot actually, typically only when a QM is trying to be dramatic and it falls flat.
The other day in German Hollow Quest the QM started doing something and it really got me good
Jack Myers
>Have you ever cringed at something that your QM or other players wrote?
Yeah but then I got used to it. It is a strange feeling, but after using imageboards for years any emotions attached to comments progressively decline. Unfortunately, this also means my smile is gone for good.
Landon Barnes
what was it? My only issue was waifuing Alex which is REALLY weird cause I see her as an adopted daughter.
Juan Adams
>QM
I usually subvert that by appealing to popular opinion. As far as likes and biases go. I haven't managed to put my fears in yet though.
Camden Phillips
>Have you ever cringed at something that your QM or other players wrote?
Such defiance!
Kayden Peterson
New Hong Kong - A city-wide planet corrupted to the core with a gang war between Yakuza groups in the underground tunnels, police brutality, fascist and communist organizations running wild, drug cartels and crime lords ruling the streets. You were born and raised on this backwater planet that's more of a festering wound upon the galaxy than anything else. You're a seasoned Merc who has been able to make a name for himself on his home planet, but not much anywhere else. However, with the recent planet-wide martial laws imposed by the Federation, all orbital ships that doesn't have the authority, has been grounded. There's no way to leave and with a price on your head for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, you need to get off the planet, ASAP.
Jordan Rogers
Just the inner thought process'
*Oh god no* *Its cant be* It just had such a disconnect to my idea of the character because it was too cliche
How long have you been running? Ironically it's usually draw quests that attract most fan art.
Jaxson Nguyen
Homeless Mutie for some parts.
Justin Martinez
Maybe a few? It doesn't really come up that often, most people here would call hardcore drug abuse edgey.
Brandon Torres
Longer than a year.
Aaron Turner
I wrote drug quests. But they are more like cartoon drugs, you know the kind that power the bad guys up, or make them crazy
Isaac Torres
Define drug use. Mine's had varying shades of struggling with alcoholism.
Jayden Ramirez
I'd play it.
Grayson Flores
Most people arent a previous nazi soldier
And i cant speak for other people but if something goes wrong my only thought process is "fuck" "shit" or something like that, stringing together any kind of monologue in your head when a fights going on is pretty much impossible
Jack Martinez
Would putting a old journal inside a brick the players would have to break be too outta the box? Too gimmicky
Kayden Sanders
Banished; Opium is common. MC has indulged occasionally. Dune Spice. "Religious" Herbs. Mind-Elevating bat guano flavored magic mush, and much more.
Hollow Quest Redux; It's the main characters thing.
Hive Queen Quest; I don't fucking know where to start.
Any quest with recurring tobacco use or alcohol fits your description. Snakecatcher/Feral Necromancer/Ogre/BFQ/Deniable Assets/and so forth.
Wyatt Hall
If it's not too Shadowrun influenced I'm interested.
Levi Stewart
well I can do some thoughts when in a fight unless weapons are drawn.
Daniel Fisher
Okay, that's a little weird. You should have gotten something (or faded into obscurity) by now.
Robert Phillips
But imagine if the enemy themselves was a weapon
Huge claws, can close the distance in a fraction of a second as well as being able to shoot out a motherfucking laser
Hunter Richardson
The real question is - can you write drug effects realistically?
Connor Barnes
Review user?
Brayden Price
Alright, great!
Anyone else have any interesting thoughts about the quest pitch or constructive criticism?
Juan Allen
My character was naughty on that meth for a long time. Got him killed actually, though he died a heroes death.
John Campbell
i'm either dead then or equally prepared as them, therefore once more able to think while moving.
Blake Jackson
So long as we get to pick the character class and you demand a name from us that fits the home system we came from I'm all in user.
Levi Roberts
I've run some quests on a different board, in the medium of comics. I was considering taking a stab at it here. My past quest comics have been kind of chaotic, though; Players make liberal use of their scene edit options, to the point of absurdity. On this board, I thought something where the plots and setting were more structured might be a better fit. Veeky Forums is probably used to only having direct control over a single character.
In my other stuff, I picked suggestions based on my own flippant whims; Whichever ideas inspired me the most, or even just amused me. Is that appropriate here? I saw someone get accused of railroading for that once....
Also, any tips on dealing with the faster pace of this board combined with my full-time job when working in the slower medium of comics?
Robert Allen
Seems like a short quest with a clear cut objective.
Subtly acquire a Fed ship or authentication codes to pass the blockade.
Aiden Bailey
If your in a life or death situation and where a second thought wasted could result in your death
Thinking "Oh my goodness me what am i going to do?" "She's going to.......oh no' Will get you killed, plus its reaally bad writing
Grayson Gutierrez
Your not thinking of 'what am I gonna do' its 'what is his next move after I block this one or dodge it' but I see your point on the matter.
Jacob Torres
Was planning to already have a name for the MC since most character creations go to hell from what I've seen and there's no real "class system". You can use learn to use any weapons or tools you can get your hands on in one way or another.
Yeah, figured I'd do a semi-short quest with a very clear cut objective that might have an obvious solution, but it will turn out to be more difficult than anticipated and other opportunities/choices for a means to escape.
Carter Hernandez
>wanting quests to feature drug use after the cringe that was Schteel's LSD baseball concept
Aaron Powell
>A city-wide planet Did you mean a planet-wide city or is this just a really fucking tiny planet?
Logan Carter
The bewildering hyphens strike again.
John Williams
>Did you mean a planet-wide city Yeah. Wrong usage of words on my part.
Ethan Parker
It would be interesting and refreshing to see a planet the size of let's say, New York City.
Colton Ortiz
>the cringe that was Schteel's LSD baseball concept Best part was the guy he was telling it to obviously trying his best ot stay polite.
James Nguyen
At that point, it'd be more of a hollowed out asteroid than a planet
Which isn't to say that a weird Dyson Sphere-lite inside-out asteroid city wouldn't be cool as fuck. It'd also explain the eternal night Cyberpunk settings all seem to suffer from as well as all the fucking neon
Elijah Allen
I'm stealing that. Thanks, user.
Easton Cox
You're only allowed to steal what you'll use, user.
Which means you've just made a promise.
We expect great things from you.
Ayden Lewis
Death Among the Stars has the players growing seagrass marijuana to start selling in a drug empire. No use of it yet
Christopher Reed
>Hive Queen Quest; I don't fucking know where to start. I'm trying to think but where did they have drugs? Besides the parasites using calming chemicals to keep their hosts docile
James Gonzalez
In my quest i plan to use visions to describe superpowers, but what kind of vision would a omnipath see?
The other two powers i've worked out are adaptive regeneration - symbolized by a ever growing and ever dying monster, and teleportation, symbolized by a bridge that connects to everywhere and nowhere all at once.
So it's supposed to be kinda surrealistic.
Isaiah Edwards
>Which means you've just made a promise. >We expect great things from you.
Brandon Scott
Yes, it was the chemical weaponry that I was trying to recall, also Lyle's Infinity Liver.
Colton Perry
A hall of mirrors that reveals the fragments of minds that they can see, and then manipulate when they touch the mirrors?
Luis Cooper
With omnipath i mean the classic telepath+telekenesis combo. Just doing one is fairly simple, but both are pretty hard to mash up.
Xavier Parker
>Do you think that subconsciously you project your fears and biases in your quest? Maybe? If something is subconscious, doesn't that mean I'm not aware of it?
Cameron Parker
STRINGS
Levi Sanders
I loved how he kept trying to kill the parasite through massive amounts of booze
Nathan Barnes
I'm thinking about making the pantheon of my quest be consisted of 6 gods based on greek deities with a small set of Dark Souls treatment.
So far, elves are a thing that are included within it, and I'm unsure if there should be a chaotic/demonic pantheon of sorts that have either a new branch of elven kind or an entirely different race all together, pherhaps as much taller humanoids with draconic features or just different hue and facial structure. I didn't really want to make them orc kind of any sort, but I'm not entirely sure.
First time around here, sorry if it's vague.
Austin Walker
I already have a "puppeteer" antagonist prepared that will be represented by strings around people trying to scream.
Andrew Hughes
I think space battles are too hard, because I already have trouble visualizing fully three-dimensional combat, but I also wouldn't mind anyone giving me tips on a possible way to run mech combat on the ground.
Right now I'm thinking of tracking damage with points in each limb for the player character, and just dramatizing the NPCs
Logan Johnson
Don't make them humanoid at all, doing that basically reduces in to "and the mother of all was REALLY hot", especially if they're supposed to actively join in the quest.
Instead, see Banished Quests take on gods, where the actual gods are more like "lol fuk u" and the smaller spirits are actually comprehensible to the normal man.
Gabriel Howard
well you know that opens up a whole field of min-maxing whatever armor they get right? Then fact in what the different ammo/weapon types have against the different types of armor.
Camden Gomez
>Have you ever cringed at something that your QM or other players wrote? So very often.
Samuel Reyes
You have come upon this place only to be destroyed by your own efforts.
Never beg that thou advanced unwarned.
Welcome to Questing! Firstly, conflict within pantheons is essential for creating realistic mythologies. You don't nessarily require an opposing pantheon. The demon/chaotic can just be different or more violent interpretations of the "standard" pantheon or it can be the ones of previous cultures that were acquired along the way, as oft is the case with many historic pantheons. Especially of the Grecian variety, although I estimate you'd want your peoples to be less flippant than them who went through Gods like candied fudge.
>small set of Dark Souls treatment. Doubly so because of this. If you mean fallen gods they'll need that sort of conflict in their history. If you mean the other interpretation of the DS gods then you already know what you must do.
But remember; the goal is for everyone to have fun!
Joshua Lopez
I was probably going to use weight to limit people from abusing armor, not to mention limiting them from using cool things like jump-jets or shoulder mounts. I've been working on this sheet to decide how I want to lay it out
Carson Miller
For some of them, I could. I dunno what's really interesting in writing it though. I never felt ever better than when I first tested MDMA. Literally never, the euphoria (>inb4 tip fedora) was so intense I still get shivers and tears coming up just writing about it. Is it possible to make my players feel that way without having known that effect? I doubt I have the skills, or will ever have them.
Literally the best night of my life.
Jason Hughes
The thing is that non-humanoids was reserved for those who are really just antagonical to the general development of humanoid, though they are majorly underground or incredibly concealed, as the current lore states that all of the gods were basically warriors that embodied different aspects and concepts, and fended off those from the surface.
I would make it so that such chaotic/demonic pantheon is seducing this hypothetical new race instead of already being part of their general customs and culture due to the general behaviour of the other humanoid races being suspicious and paranoid due to their differences, and applying sanctions that halt their general developmen due to their worship of more morally questionable and ancient rituals within the older pantheon. Their faith wavers because of this and the above ensues.. Elves don't suffer this so harshly because their seclusion breeds a set of skills that are more benefitial than the other, and such retain a certain passivity towards mankind.
Brandon Johnson
>But remember; the goal is for everyone to have fun! That's not what DS is about, u fookin' casul.
Easton Rodriguez
>that chargen in Hero/Villain Quest on Akun (Shadow Commander)
David Thompson
wat happen?
Kevin Perry
Well no but I was talking about quests. In which, to be honest you're correct, it's not possible for everyone to have fun. But it is a nice goal, if delusional.
Elijah Cook
what about materials?
Noah James
well, that conflict already exists a little when I typed this out
John Moore
The 15 year old futa?
Tyler Green
I don't know if I want to get that deep with it. I like to prioritize the writing foremost. As of now I was just going with part types, ammo types, and weapons.
Parker Baker
Hey user thanks. You reminded me of something I had to ask.
Yo WQDT. I have a hypothetical question regarding resource management- not for civ quests.
Say you have three resources only acquirable through felled enemies or explored ruins, or from breaking down equipment. These resources are used for boosting abilities in separate paths and are not directly convertible for reasons of setting consistency.
What could they do with the leftovers they don't need? So far I'm at a dearth with just "give 'em to companions," and "sell them for what you actually want." I'd wanted to think of something more clever, except it turns out I'm at a bit of wall in this matter.
Grayson Thompson
Should a cyberpunk quest have different alien races alongside humans or deal with androids, robots, and trans-humanism next to regular humans instead?
Players wanted to create supersmart villain manipulator
QM declared open chargen then kept vetoing name ideas, power ideas and supervillain name whilst calling the players idiots.
Nathan Clark
>"sell them for what you actually want." This could work. Let's say the players have 50 of a certain resource they don't need. Let them trade 50 of those resources for 25 of the resource they need. It's not a clean cut deal so they can't farm a specific material for super fast and easy upgrades, but it's enough to let them use the leftover resources.
Ethan Sullivan
>Dio, A hook-nosed curly-haired man wearing some kind of cap, Woman wearing a suit that was painted on, vampire loli witch, vampire loli witch catgirl, Wall, General Patton, Velociraptor, Bruce Lee, The Wolf, Ram & Hart, A Green Painted Benjamin Franklin.
Well he sure as shit isn't wrong. This is golden for my sides user, thanks a ton.
Brayden Butler
>>I was probably going to use weight to limit people from abusing armor, not to mention limiting them from using cool things like jump-jets or shoulder mounts But part of the fun of a mech quest is going balls to the wall with armor development
Jaxson Harris
Aliens don't feel very cyberpunk
Josiah Bennett
This.
Hell, I expect it to be the main draw of my mech quest. If you truly love mechs then you're probably also obsessed with armor variety and style, which is always fun to toy around with.
Like the awesomeness that MechEngineer Quest was.
Ian Cruz
Would players be OK with the MC turning into a monstrous form when fighting? And i'm not talking about some cool kinda monster, i'm talking about literal eyes in the back of the head, mouth that extends back towards the neck and twisted arms and fingers with too many joints.
Or is this to off-putting?
Aaron Harris
They'd better all have crazy names and powersets too
William Howard
First, it's going to be a quest about trying to escort a group of rebels to a neutral zone, so the actual mechanics will serve the narrative. But you're right, and as things go on I will allow for new parts to be found and bought, allowing for pretty OP stuff by the end
Alexander Lee
Depends whether you want to play him as a heroic or villainous protagonist
Jace Butler
Yep, and played straight. Everyone's got crazy ass names and powersets. Standard.
Henry Wood
So, I had a question
I was thinking of cute nicknames people could remember some characters by. What kind of person comes to mind when you think the following nicknames:
Detective Inspector Doc
At least one of these will be a woman in her 20s, another a man in his 20s, and a guy in his 50s.
Opinions?
Levi Sanchez
Aw man, a huge part of my interest is naming suits and stuff. I really want to have a /k/ommando dude who gives his rig the edgiest name possible
Anthony Jenkins
>>Detective >Inspector I wouldn't consider these nicknames
Tyler Thompson
The players can choose themselves. Have some plothooks prepared both ways, and leveling up your monstrous form gives you bonus to intimidation rolls while you become horrifying as fuck.
Jackson Ramirez
Okay, sure, they're job titles, but I'm trying to match the name with the face.
Ryder Martin
It might be quite complicated to think how it actually moves, which could be a challenge to immersion
Joseph Brooks
Sure. If it's used well.
Zachary Walker
A nickname should really tell you something about an individual. It is either a statement about their personality or appearance, a pun on their name or an in-joke based on a past event. You want the name to give you an idea what kind of person they are. It isn't necessary to relate it to what they do.
Jose White
I'm thinking the legs are actually more reptile-like, and the rest of the body is monstrous, but for long distance travel the players can bend over and travel on all four legs, breaking open both flesh and bone while their body adapts to the new challenge and promptly regenerates into a new form suitable to the task.
