Do you consider it acceptable to include a DMPC in a campaign, if that DMPC is some not-extremely-important character, like, say, a potion seller?
DMPCs
People are fucking warped on what a DMPC is.
DMPC != Important NPC
A DMPC is a character that occupies the same position as a PC in the party while being controlled by the DM.
A merchant, unless they travel with the party and have similar social standing to the party is not a DMPC.
Having someone who travels with the party does not make them a DMPC, having someone who fights with the party does not make them a DMPC, and GOD FUCKING DAMN having class levels does not make them a DMPC.
>Do you consider it acceptable to include a DMPC in a campaign
Yes. How else will my retarded players ever get through the game without mother hen leading them by the nose.
I feel like you just contradicted yourself.
Calm the fuck down you nerd.
Fuck off, god damn.
Fuck off.
Fuck off.
How can a potion seller be a gmpc?
I will only run gmpc when my group has low numbers.
First, clarify what you mean by DMPC.
Basically, what I have in mind is a recurring, potion-selling witch who mysteriously seems to appear in most of the places the party goes, and seems to know more than she lets on. That, and she's actually a slightly altered recycled version of a character I once played in a campaign that one of my players DMd.
Not a gmpc
Not a DMPC.
Fuck off.
She might also show up to give the party tips on defeating some ghosts or other incorporeal undead at least once.
Not a storytellerPC
When are you supposed to use DM and GM? Are they completely interchangeable?
Still not a DMPC.
yes
not that guy, but what's with the phenomenon recently of people all repeating the same opinion, hoping that they'll be falsely accused of samefagging so that they can act smug and superior?
DMPCs can be acceptable in a few select cases. For example, if it's a party of new players and the DMPC exists to show them what they should be doing.

You just have to make sure that it isn't obnoxious or overshadowing the PCs. Noone wants to hear your 10 minute description of how deftly Morgana Nyteshade teleports behind the guards and slots their throats.
psshhh
nothing personnel kid

lol, posting is hard
>slots their throats
*teleports behind you* Heh...Jackpot
DM is generally for D&D, GM for most everywhere else. I use DM instead of GM because it rolls off the tongue better
Hey look over there, it's the joke.
GMPCS ARE NOT THE SAME THING AS NPCS.
A GMPC IS A PLAYER CHARACTER OF THE GM. LIKE ANY OTHER PLAYER IN THE PARTY CHARACTER ONLY PLAYED BY THE GM INSTEAD OF A REGULAR PLAYER.
AN NPC IS JUST A FUCKING ACTOR IN THE SETTING. EVEN IF THEY HAVE AN EXTENSIVE ROLE IT DOES NOT MAKE THEM A GMPC.
