Are shades worth it in a world with dark riders?

I have played 9th age a few times and it has the very happy distinction of FEELING LIKE Warhammer 8th, but with a lot less bullshit rules.
It's the game we love tinkered by people who care about making it fun and any army having options and builds capable of defeating any other army.

Its still in production, the team is still balancing it against itself for maximum balance.
They're also going to do all the Forgeworld and old armies as well.

Everyone has a different opinion on the subject. Some people, myself included, prefer 9th, some people are on the KoW side.
9th has a direct parallel for every model, Kings has a long of things that work but some stuff has no Kings equivalent from Fantasy.

Suffice it to say Age of Sigmar is the only wrong answer if you want a Warhammer Fantasy ruleset.

Does anyone feel like 8th edition suffered because of GWs intentional nerfing of forest spirits in the WE army book?

The latest rules are pretty much the final version. They're just doing a grammar pass right now before releasing 1.0 on the 30th.

kind of related, im having trouble figuring out what eternal guard are supposed to be
buffed up spearmen? but then with shields they cost only 3 points less than phoenix guard
and they cost 3 points more than high/dark elf spearmen so are they supposed to be the WE version of black/phoenix guard?
is the 12p cost justified with WS5, stubborn and armor piercing, since its just light armor+shield
also how do we improve forest spirits? 6+ scaly? up the ward to 5+ since you're going to get hit with S4+ anyway?

I actually have no idea what eternal guard are supposed to be either, the stubborn is pretty strong though.

The armor piercing spear is a nice touch but it seems like they were supposed to have more attacks or the developer took "wood elves don't stand and bang" to mean they shouldn't be capable of it.

2 ws5 S3 armor piercing attacks in a 5+ AS makes sense for 12 points in the wood elves list.

It's remarkable going through the 8th ed books and noticing how underworked so many of them are.

v1.0 will probably include full-blown armybooks, like what they did for Undying Dynasties (!Tomb Kings) before. this will surely generate much attention.

If I'm making a mordheim witch hunter priest of sigmar out of crap, would it be better to use a specifically empire looking shield (the one from the giant sprue) or an unmarked one? Making important choices here.

I'd say any, but cover it in sigmarine charms so much the original design can be barely seen. candles on rim, chains with tiny ghal-marazed, crosses with skulls, just skulls, all covering the shield almost completely

my only peeve with 9th is that it REMOVED some of the special rules and random tables. I like fluffy stuff.

At least my Doomwheel can evaporate allied units again. I'm happy.

enjoy your 4 hour long games, 3 of which are spent thumbing through half a dozen rulebooks.

In 9th you make a list and the books then tell you who has won. KOW comes down to actual tactics and maneuvering. Like an actual game!

I don't mind blandness when I can make every unit a diorama as a result.

You know, when I used to play WoW, I simply adored long, windy dungeons. Blackrock Depths could take hours and I loved every minute. Dungeons even weren't linear.
Then came later expansion with streamlined dungeons and people running them at top speed. I quit.

I play to invest my time and emotions. I'm in no hurry. Throwing dice is just one of the facets. "Game" is just a part of the "hobby". Not the most important too.

yes. I tried KoW, it is enjoyable the first couple of games, but after that, since there's barely a handful of special rules to make units distinct, you feel like you playing chess, but without class that comes with chess. everything is so much the same.
plus the battles are too quick. doesn't feel epic, even though dozens of dice fly.

I actually managed to get one Batallion in local FLGS not long before it died. it was right after the Batallion was discontinued and so the price must've hiked up... but ignorant shop assistant told me he'll give me a discount since "nobody wants to buy that thing anyway"

This Gotta hunt flgs, finding any battalions will be hard because they're actually sizable AOS armies at a mad bargain.

Do you guys feel it's in the spirit of the dawi to not kill a dragon but instead constricting it in heavy chains, plates, runes and machineries as punishment for ancient grudges?
Things like a great drake from the times of the war of the beard with its wings torn off and a really oppressive collar and mask controlling its movement and ability to breath fire, or the firstborn of a borrowing dragon that devastated dwarfen hold at the time of the ancestors still serving to empower a forge?

It's the series that really establishes Arkhan as probably the best fantasy character written.
