I think it's interesting how non-fantastical most fantasy settlements look. Like, other than , all the places here could be real (even if some of them are kind of impractical).
That's because fantasy is, in part, longing for a simpler time.
A simpler time, with wizards and booby traps.

Honestly sometimes it's less 'I wish I lived in a world of magical castles and knights' and more 'I wish I was earnestly enjoying even the little moments of the life I'm living.'
