I had forgotten how much the Lord of Chaos cover reminds me of Fabio / trashy romance novel covers.

THAT'S THE JOKE.

>has been announced
No.

The widow of the dead original author stated that the rumors which have been going on for years are true and some unnamed studio is probably going to be offering networks without their own production some WoT themed filler in the coming years. No news to report.

We should make a Tumblr Trigger Bingo in anticipation.

I doubt the series is going to be very good. Most of the attempts to adapt WoT to other media have ended badly. The only good example I can think of is the comic.

The vidya was excellent.
The D20 is D20, but as such on the fluffy side, and mostly on canon.
The pilot doesn't count because it was just a contract thing to air anything, and they did, in the middle of the night.

Anything else?

The game is a pretty good game, it's just not a very good adaptation of the setting.

That's on Jordan, it was his initiative to change it to a tournament game.

Hope it's not as bad as Legend of the Seeker.

Ok I'm kidding I totally hope it is.

Jordan was an excellent writer, but he didn't know video games. I'm just saying, I don't expect anything to come of this. It's going to be seen by networks and audiences alike as a cheap GoT knockoff, and I don't expect it to get the budget or the talent needed to do justice to the books.

Believe me, I'd love a good TV adaptation of WoT. Movies certainly wouldn't work but a series gives a chance to actually explore all the various subplots that go on throughout the books and give each one the attention they deserve. I just really, really doubt it'll end up that way.

He knew enough to realize that Legend's adventure games sucked aside from Superhero League of Hoboken.

So I was thinking about the RPG thing last night and what do you guys think about opposed attack rolls for combat? It would help capture the flavor of the duels in the series.

The wheel of threads turns, and OPs come and pass, leaving memory that fades to legend...

Actually, why not just adapt Eye of the World? The thing's a fucking doorstopper, and it's long enough to be a fantasy trilogy in itself.

It even ends on the perfect note where the Aes Sedai is "Yep, the Dragon is totally reborn."

If not, you can go up too Book 3, where Rand claims Callandor and goes "I'm the god damn Dragon Reborn!"

The rest of the books are too fucking boring and tedious to adapt.

You get a cookie

A gift of sweet food offered by a stranger by the stream... A mighty portent!

...

Nice

There's good shit in them, delivered with an ocean of tedious filler, and enough characters and plots going on that anyone making an adaptation can pick and choose whatever the audience seems to be responding to.

Really, it's almost the best source material for long-running fantasy soap opera. The difficulty is in every other character using a lot of showy magic.

how canonical is that extended map? I never knew the lands of the Seanchan were detailed.

Eye of the World has the best cover desu

I think it's from the official companion, at least the Seanchan part. Shara I'm not sure about.

...

...

Definitely not from the Companion - the maps on the front and back inner covers are the same as they are for the rest of the series, and there's no maps in the interior.

The shape's right, but the size isn't - the Big White Book of Bad Art (the World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time) has a map of the world but the entirety of the Seanchan landmass is bigger than the Wetlands/Randland + the Aiel Waste + Shara COMBINED.

Pic related.

But will they keep the harem?

How could they not?
It's in the prophecies.

How would you show the gholam Veeky Forums?

I always imagined him as turning into thick, almost viscous looking smoke. Billowing through cracks and blooming into form in mushroom cloud pattern.

T-1000-esque liquid is how it's described from what I remember.

No, I have him stretching and thinning, like shapeless goo, black oozy goo. Not Mister Fantastic stretchy, more octopus slithery, or like a snake.

This should be an anime desu

Daily reminder that the Magic system is problematic, and you're a sexist, mysognyistic, transphobic shitlord if you like it.

A bit of controversy could be good publicity.

Oh my god his worldbuilding is so bad

LoC was the last book worth reading in that series. And even it is 500 pages too long.

It's still worth it for the Battle of Dumai's Wells.

> "Asha'man! Kill!"
> mfw

I dunno. Modern SJWs are extreme enough that they might interpret the whole "women have a special magic system that only they can use, and male superpowers are inherently evil" thing as feminist, rather than anti-feminist.

What goes on in the Land of the Madmen?

IIRC pretty much the only info we get in the series is that they kill outsiders on sight.

It's a land that never regained a system for training female channelers and removing males after the Breaking, and basically any attempt to rebuild civilization has been ruined by Power based disasters.
So basically nothing.
Sea Folk avoid it like the plague amd nobody else has the sailing knowledge to reach it.

Male Channeler's is most peoples guess. It's like Australia but less violent.

This

Like Eugene Victor Tooms, from the X-Files. With the same kind of emotionally dead animalism.

>thread theme

Yeah, that's great except for the whole "women must submit to and embrace Magic" part.

nothing is right about that map. seanchan is three times the length and twice the width of that, the westlands is 2/3 the size. isle of madmen is the only correct part.

literally jordan's description

women must submit to other more knowledgeable women. its sjw honey. "castrate" or gentle the males and empower the females.

>ITT: People who think the contents of media have anything to do with whether SJWs dislike it

Yes

you mean this show?

>populist nationalism
>leftist

Wtf?

They realised they were losing the rights so they knocked a pilot together over a weekend and threw it on the air at 3am with no advertising.

The new show won't be that show, although we might have this cock up of rights grabbing to thank for an actual show getting made.

...

It will either be on syfy or on nbc

I hope the tollocs dont look too fake.

>tollocs
>Horrible monsters that collect tolls.
>Truly the worst of the shadowspawn.

...

Don't think of it in terms of modern maps, think of it in terms of medieval maps. It's the only way the WOT and ASOIAF maps make sense.

The thing I hope they get right with Trollocs is that they're chimeras.

So many people have them look like WHF beastmen when the point of them is that they're magi-scientific abominations. A trolloc can have a bird beak, goat hooves, horns, and a lion's tail.

WoT has the coolest magic system in fiction hands down.

True

>tollocs

It's some real goofy fireball-tossing, earth wind and fire shit. But hell, I like it.

But not remotely the coolest depiction of magic in fiction. If we're going to restrict it to books that go into detail on the mechanics of how magic is done, then Earthsea wins hands down

It's something leftist parties are quick enough to use where they can.

Not that I'm defending that infographic, which looks like some an-cap nonsense.

I hope it's good. There's so much potential, but as the 5am pilot shows also a huge chance of being total shit.

>as the 5am pilot shows
How?

So do you think he would have gone into detail about the southern continent of "Oh shit everything is horrible" and Shara if he'd lived long enough to do those books set in the world, but not about the main plot?

I've always wondered did Tamlin actually kill Rand's mother, or at least the other members of her party. He was close enough to find Rand after he was born.
I mean he also possibly killed the King too.

>Tamlin killed Rand's mother
>Killed the Cairhein King faster than the Aiel could

Did you read the sentence?
The 5am pilot shows it has a huge chance of being shit.

Well he did kill someone important enough to have a power-wrought heron-blade.
Plus how else would he have been close enough to find Rand. He did you know fight against the Aiel

Earth sea magic certainly did cooler things than the source, but the system itself was inconsistent with what it can do changing with every book. In my opinion the source is still cooler, especially in the context of a ttrpg.

that one.

Did you get that it was made and aired to retain the rights, not to make a pilot? It's pure contract law.
