Boruto Quest 46

This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. You have just recently graduated to a Chunin after winning the final tournament. You've been regularly completing missions as a Chunin, and making progress in training. You have a busy week before your next mission.

You're both soon approaching the restaurant. The sky is fading from twilight into evening, and there's a slight chill. It's sort of refreshing after a long summer of heat, however. Looking over at Ai, she's staring up into the trees as if there were something interesting. As far as you can tell, she's just daydreaming or something. It makes you laugh, your friend is strange.

She turns back. "Hm? What is it?"

You shrug. "Nothing. You're pretty cool Ai, you know that?"

Her eyes go a little wide in surprise. "Huh??"

Looking over, you spot the place. "Hey! We're here. It's this way, let's go! I haven't had anything to eat all day."

You rush off, and after a moment she steps after. The two of you enter the establishment, and are being led to your seats. Ai mentions that she would prefer a booth, and you don't really mind either way. As the waitress leads you, a voice calls out among the restaurant. "Takeshi, hey! Come sit over here!"

Looking over, Shikadai and his team are seated at a booth.

Hiya Mini!

>>A. Ask Ai if she wants to go sit with them
Or if she'd prefer it to be just us

>A. Ask Ai if she wants to go sit with them

We need to focus on our objective. If we want to be the best ninja we need to be close to the hokage because he is young and is going to be the hokage for a long time.

We need to bro Boruto and marry his sister.

>>A. Ask Ai if she wants to go sit with them

No we don't need to be friends with Boruto or marry Himawari.

"Do you wanna go sit with them, Ai? They're pretty nice."

She looks over. "Sure. They did help us during the exams, after all."

You smile, and chuckle. "That's right"

The waitress moves you into the other section, probably thankful she won't have to take your orders now. You sit next to Chocho while Ai takes a seat next to Shikadai and Inojin. Chocho has already eaten two plates of barbecue from what you can see, while Inojin and Shikadai have yet to order. Inojin leans forward. "So, what are you two doing here alone?"

Chocho nods. "Yeah, are you two on a date or something?"

Shikadai sighs. "Jeez, don't just spit out like that.."

You laugh, and rub the back of your head. "No, it's nothing like that. We're just hanging out. I'm starving."

Ai nods. "I have yet to eat today as well. I was asleep."

Shikadai grins. "I feel you, girl. I'm looking forward to this for the same reason."

Everyone starts to take a look at the menu. What do you order?

>B. smoked chicken, asparagus, and a pepperoni roll.
>C. sausage assortment + fries
>D. 1 lb burger + onion rings
>E. Milkshake (Y/N in addition to vote)

Then how are we going to be close enough to the hokage to get all the cool secret jutsu?

Everyone takes their orders, and you receive a glass of water as you wait for your food. "Have you been on any missions lately, guys?"

His squads nods. "Yeah, Anko Sensei has been pushing us hard ever since the Chunin exams. I guess once she saw all of us in top gear, she wanted those sort of results all the time. Just goes to show, you should never heighten the expectations people have of you.."

You grin. "Well, if that's how it goes, then you sure messed that up!"

He groans, and Inojin and you both laugh heartily. Chocho is chowing down. Ai continues. "I have been on many missions as well. Tomorrow will be our first together as a team in a long time, however. I believe it will be a good experience."

Chocho looks over. "How so?"

Ai glances down at the table, thinking. "We've all grown so much since the forest. As a team, I'm sure we'll be much more efficient."

You grin. "That's right. Kichiro and you are more powerful than ever, and I've trained really hard as well! With Hanto Sensei leading us, I'd say there's nothing we can't take on!"

Your mind flashes back to Shozuku, your ghastly double. Personally, you consider him your second true defeat. The first being your initial bout against Mari, where you forfeited.

You grit your teeth. "But..There's someone I'd like to beat personally."

Shikadai and his team look at you in confusion. "Huh? Who's that?" he says.

"This guy who defeated me and Boruto's squad on a secret mission. He took on all four of us at once, and we still lost."

Everyone's face turns serious. "Man, that's some power. What kind of man was he?"

You look off to the side, and sigh. "That's the thing, he was our age. No older than twelve or thirteen. What's even weirder, is that he looked just like me."

youtube.com/watch?v=5kQWQiMypjc&list=PLF7A13C44809B5893&index=4

Ai turns to study you, seemingly confused. "Huh..?"

You look back. "Wha? Did you say something?"

She nods. "He's very powerful, and he looks just like you? That could be.."

Oh, of course. Her believed to be deceased brother is a double of you too apparently. You chuckle and rub the back of your head. "Well, unless your bro's name is Shozuku I don't think that's the case."

The food is placed in front of you all, and you've chosen the giant burger, onion rings, and a milkshake.

Ai's face has turned paler than usual even, and she simply stares at her ribs for a moment. "I see..then he's come back from the dead, somehow."

Everyone turns in shock and surprise collectively yelling. "What!?"

She clenches her fists. "That's right, there's no doubt. My brother, who tried to escape from this village with a mortal wound. Somehow he lived..and now, he's back. Where did you find him??"

You eat an onion ring, and sigh. "I'm really not supposed to talk about it, but..since it's your brother I'll tell just you."

Leaning in, you whisper that he's a Jashin cultist.

Shikadai groans. "Aw man! I wanna know! It was just getting all dramatic!"

Inojin nods, taking small bites of his food. "Quite, I never knew you had a long lost brother, Ai."

She seems to take the message rather well, and the five of you enjoy your food happily. You share some laughs, but soon you all depart and start on your way home. You decide that you'll walk Ai home at the very least.

youtube.com/watch?v=vfMSO4lp518

However, you're stopped after several steps.

In front of you, in a white robe, is the Sixth Hokage. Kakashi Hatake waves slightly, presumably smiling behind his mask. "Hey there, kids."

Ai grins. "Good evening, Sensei. What are you doing out?"

He walks in front of you, crossing his arms. "Actually, I was looking for Takeshi here. I wanted to borrow a few minutes of his time, if you don't mind."

Ai nods. "Of course, Sensei." She turns to you. "Thank you, I had a good time tonight. I'll see you tomorrow!" She bows, and runs off before you can say anything back. You wonder if she's going to be alright, after this grim news.

You gulp, and turn to Kakashi. He's somewhat of a legendary figure. "H-hello, Lord Kakashi."

"Polite as expected. But you can just call me Kakashi, for now. Let's go on a walk, I want to discuss a few things with you."

Aw, sweet! Boruto Quest!

...now I'm hungry, dammit.

>D. Burgz.
>E. Hell yeah!

Brb getting burgz and shake.

Kakashi looking for us makes me worried.

The two of you start on your way, actually heading in the direction of your house. He remains quiet for a few moments. "I noticed that you've been relaxing a lot, this week. That's good, I was taking a glance at your records and it's been quite a while since you took a break from the work. Mission after mission, with training in-between. It's really no wonder to anyone how you managed to take the tournament. Hell, I say that, but I still lost the bet with Guy.."

You look up. "Huh, a bet?"

The Ex-Hokage looks ashamed, sighing. "Yeah, I bet with Guy that Boruto would win the tournament, while he put it all on you. Claimed that you had something different from the others, and man was he right. We could all see it in that fight against Roku, where you behaved like an animal."

Chuckling, you rub the back of your head. "Yeah, I kind of went a bit overboard there. I have to really, to win. If I don't push myself like that, then there's no way I can get ahead."

Kakashi stops, and turns. "Well, you've proved that methology well enough. Tomorrow you'll be returning to active missions. There is one thing, though. I know you've recently had an encounter with a high value target of the cult.."

He must be referring to Shozuki. You gulp once more. "That's right. He was the most powerful shinobi of my age that I've seen, I believe."

Kakashi nods. "As far as I know, you'd be right. It's led us believe that only Jounin are fit to combat him, which is quite difficult in this day in age. Our windows of time to strike are narrow, but Jounin are rarely on call. I'm offering you a job, more or less. With the skill set and drive that you have, I believe that with some proper guidance you and your team might be able to take him down if needed. For now, however, I have a different subject in mind. An example of the training that you'd receive if you were to accept this monumental task."

youtube.com/watch?v=HkS_w22lbEs

He slowly reaches into his robe, and withdraws a small white scroll. He reaches out, and hands it to you. "After this next mission, I've already prepared another for you. On this mission you'll be going to the North, deep into the woods and close to the plains. When you reach the mountain's peak on this journey, open the scroll. Go ahead and take a look at it, now."

You slide it open, and there's an illustration of three different paths leading from the mountain. One back into the forest, one to the plains, and one towards a lake. In addition, three animal illustrations are attached to each path. A tiger, owl, and rat.

Kakashi turns away from you. "When you reach the summit, make your choice on which path to take. I've asked Mirai to camp there for the night, so you'll have time. I'll see you again, when you get back from that mission."

As you glance down at the scroll, he vanishes. Tiger, Owl, and Rat?

You fold it up and slip it into your pouch, and go home.

Cont.

Soon! The mission after this one.

Exposition has been very stilted, sorry for this but I'm rushing a little bit. Want to get to the next mission so we can have some progress again

YES YES YES, animal summon time!

Alright anons, lets not spam for now.focus on tge mission first

You get home, and attempt to get some sleep. It doesn't go very well, various nightmares of your newfound enemy invading your peaceful rest. Tossing and turning, you wake up in a sweat. For some reason, you can't seem to get it off of your mind. After you came so far, and beat everyone that you encountered, there are still people above your level. Frankly, you were beginning to think that you were quite special among today's youth. If only in your lack of special abilities and a love for the fundamentals.

Sitting up, you rub your leg and feel the light scarring of the acid splash. Is just that going to be enough, however? You wonder what kind of training Kakashi will have in mind for you.

Leaning back, you sigh. "I can't forget, I have my bro and my team to train with too. Tomorrow, I'm back in action!"

youtube.com/watch?v=tI55p41FYik

After a much more thorough rest, you leap out of bed in the morning. Rushing into the kitchen, you make yourself a small breakfast. Spotting your brother asleep on the couch, you chuckle. It reminds you of the morning that you'd first gone and met your team. Despite not being a very sentimental person overall, a warm feeling starts to rise in your chest. The pride for the respect that you've earned and the friends you've made can't be dimmed by a single loss.

Stepping out the door with a sprint, you head down to the village gate and find your Sensei Hanto waiting for you. As expected, he has a small metal flask on his hip. "Good morning, Sensei."

He waves. "Howdy, Takeshi. It's good to see you again! I'm going to finally get to see how the champ has developed since the tournament. You haven't stopped training, right?"

You shake your head. "Of course not!"

At first I was in team owl. But after the explanation of the three I think that rat is the most useful.

At this point I'm okay with either, I still like rat the most but any of them would be cool.

I like Tiger in that it would shore up our physical weaknesses and lead to us being a pretty kickass fighter. We as a group already got the thinking bit covered and can always learn genjutsu on our own.

Having said that I am very comfortable with the overwhelming Rat majority winning.

The Rat's are bound to have a taijutsu specialist or two, Mini said they have everything.

"We should have a rematch again one day. The three of us versus you."

He rubs his neck, and looks off to the side. "That sure sounds like a hassle..The three of you together at this point would be annoying. Fast, strong, and tricky."

This makes you laugh. Moments later, Ai approaches. "Morning" you say.

She smiles, slightly. "Good morning, you two."

Hanto raises an eyebrow. "Hmmm? In a chipper mood, now?"

She nods. "Our team is reuniting."

Kichiro lands nearby, having jumped down from a building. "Right! Motherfuckers can't handle us!"

Hanto slaps the back of his head. "Don't talk like that in public, yeah?"

Your team mate stomps forward, shaking his fist. "What are you talking about, you're even worse!"

Sensei clenches his fists. "You little-!!"

He pulls back but you call out. "Hey Sensei! What's today's mission?" Kichiro turns his head with a hmph.

Ai turns to you, and chuckles. "It seems like they've bonded since training."

Hanto starts to walk away from the village, now that you're all here. Apparently he's going to tell you as you travel.

"We're going to the Cloud Country, to investigate a murder in a city. They want us foreigners, specifically. They believe that there's a possibility of government corruption involved with the situation, so we'll have to keep our eyes sharp. Even when it comes to Cloud Shinobi."

Kichiro folds his hands behind his head. "Investigation? This isn't gonna just be a bunch of talking, is it?"

Hanto takes a swig from his flask. "Some of it will be. But if they're worried about a corrupt official, we've got double the chance of running into some sort of shinobi involved with the situation. I'm sure we'll get more of the full story later on."

The travelling has begun. You've got a little time to talk to someone in your group, if you'd like.

Among your squad, it's been the longest amount of time since you've seen Hanto. "Hey Sensei, what have you been doing while all of us were busy?"

Kichiro grins. "Yeah, haven't gotten lazier, hopefully!"

Hanto takes another swig of his miscellaneous drink. "A few missions, here and there. It's been a bit of a break for me, too. Now we'll be back on our usual path. With you here, Takeshi, we should be able to get a higher caliber of mission from now on."

Kichiro slams his fists together. Ai is looking off to the side, distracted. He grins wildly. "Man, ever since you won that tournament, it's been driving me crazy! Next test, we'll do it for sure!"

Hanto laughs. "You'll need a third Genin as a squad member, for that. Takeshi's only going to hang around with us until he gets some more experience!"

You nod. "I'll have to make the most of that time, then."

>A. Let's get what info we can.

"Do you know anything specific about the murder, sensei?"

He shrugs his shoulders. "Apparently the guard of a government installation on the far side of town was killed. We're meant to take a look at the crime scene, and help determine if fowl play is involved. From what I understand, it's almost a certainty. He was likely pushed off of a balcony, onto the concrete floor."

"I see." you say. "Do you think I'll have to use my Interrorgation Jutsu?"

He nods. "It's not unlikely. If we catch any living leads, that's our goal. We'll capture them, and you'll bring us to the next target until we get to the bottom of all this. I figure it'll work eventually. City's only so large, after all.

Ai steps forward. "What exactly is this location, again?"

Hanto shrugs. "Don't know. Cloud Government secret, apparently. We'll just have to play it by ear when we get there.

Once you're all done warming up, you blast ahead at full speed. Leaping through the trees, it takes you several hours to reach the border of the Lightning Country. The border guards let you through, recognizing your sensei. Another hour or so of travel, and you're arriving at your destination. It's early in the afternoon, and the sun is beginning to lean towards the west. The building in front of you seems to be a single complex with a left wing and a right wing. If you weren't positive, it could be mistaken for a hospital. Perhaps it was repurposed.

As your group is stepping forward, you notice various guards all around. What sort of place is this, to be so heavily protected on the outskirts of a city?

You pass by a chain link fence, and far further down it seems to be a sort of white tent. It covers a portion of the fence. It sits below a balcony of the building high above, and you get the impression that your victim is over there. On your squad's approach, a man with blonde hair, dark skin, and fiery eyebrows approaches. "Ah! You're here! My name is Kamemaru. I'm the Jounin in chage of this building. I believe you can see the body's location, correct?"

Hanto steps forward. "Well, it is right in front of us. How about you let us take a look and get to work, eh? What with the talk of traitors, I think we'd be prefer to be alone if you don't mind."

The Cloud Jounin grimaces. "I understand, but I'm afraid it isn't quite that simple. It's the law that I have guards observe your actions. As insurance of your safety, I'll personally accompany you as well. None of my boys would dare turn on me, no matter their allegiance!"

Kichiro chuckles. "Now that's the way to lead!"

You all enter the white tent, and the scene in front of you is grisly. Everyone begins to search the area near the impaled body. What do you search first?

>B. Check for any other injuries

First thing's first, you should check and see if this was totally deliberate, or an accident. Either is possible, just because the country is having trouble with spies doesn't mean every death is an assassination. Besides, what would be the point in killing one simple guard?

You leap up to the quarenteened area, severeal guards watching. Well, maybe whatever is in this building is worth killing over. You're reminded of the forbidden scroll, back at the Leaf.

Glancing over the concrete floor of the balcony, you can clearly see a number of scuff marks from boots. At an initial examination, it looks like there was quite a lot of harsh movement here. You turn to the guard. "What's with all these marks?"

"It's not unusual. The scene's been closed off, so the janitor never got to clean the daily mess."

Slipping your hands in your pockets, you try to focus and look even closer at the balcony. The floor is mostly remarkable, and the corner seems less marked than the center of the walkway. Glancing over the railing, you notice a speckle of blood. Leaning in, you dab your finger against it lightly and find it to be fairly dried, but not so much that it's been blackened. The redish brown substance flakes at your touch, and you look down at the white tent below. "Well, I doubt blood flew all the way up here from there."

You found scuff marks and a speckle of blood on the balcony. Very possibly signs of a struggle. You leap down, and check how your team mates are doing.

As you enter the tent, you can't say you're surprised at what you see. Hanto is chatting up a brunette with short curly hair, and considerably impressive accent. Her flirty movements tell you that your sensei's going to be distracted for quite a while.

Kichiro is on his hands and knees, crawling along the ground looking for something important. He doesn't seem to be sure what he's looking for.

You step over to Ai, who is searching the pockets of the body. You step over. "Find anything?"

She shakes her head. "Just some change, and his wallet. He seems to be your normal, rank and file Cloud Chunin. I can't imagine why someone would target him."

You lean forward. "I found signs of a struggle up above. Let's check his body for any injuries."

As you look him over, you sure enough find dried blood on the leftmost corner of his mouth. Turning his stiff hand over, you find scrapes on one of his knuckles as well. "Kamemaru." you say. "I think that the victim was pushed, but managed to get a swing on his attacker before the other man hit back."

He walks over to you. You explain the damage and the blood on the balcony, and he nods. "That makes sense. But who would target this man, specifically? What's the motive?

You approach with a smile. "Hey, guys! I wanted to ask if you knew anything about the man who died. Sorry, I know the subject's kinda fresh.."

One of the guards chuckles, and spits off the balcony. "He was a prick. I can't imagine who would hate the guy enough to kill 'em, but he sure wasn't anyone's favorite."

The other guard elbows his buddy. "Hey, that reminds me, his girlfriend's available!"

You blink. "Girlfriend?"

They nod. "Yeah, the brunette guard down below. She's taken it surprisingly lightly, from what everyone can tell."

"Interesting." you say. "I did see her flirting with my Sensei, after all. That sure is some weird behavior.."

The one who'd spit nods. "Good point. You'd think she'd be a little more worried.."

The other guard looks at him, seriously. "Hey now, watch what you say. Everyone grieves differently. Besides, she's worked here for years. You know she's no cultist, don't tell the kid that!"

The man laughs, rubbing his head. "Sorry! I got a little wrapped up in the excitement of the situation. This place is usually so goddamn boring."

You start to step away, looking for a way out of the conversation. "Well, thanks for your help!"

"Actually, I need you to ask her some questions." You whisper. "She's apparently the victim's Ex-girlfriend, so she might know some more about him. It could tell us something that we need to know about the investigation."

He stares at you blankly for a few seconds, seeming to consider your proposition. He sighs heavily. "Fine. I'll ask her some questions, but when this goes no where I'm forgetting about it."

You smile. "Sounds like a fair deal to me!"
