Well genies are by nature totally magical, as far as I can tell. In the games they're protectors of the world, but they've all disappeared (save for one showing up in the upcoming game). So why is the half-genie still around? Questions, questions.

As for how to be a half-genie...idk +2 to either Dex, Con, or Cha, and as a spelllike ability you can emulate 3 spells per day, with half your character level acting as your effective spellcaster level. Thats a start, right?

I'd recommend Dex or Cha, and maybe a -2 to Wis - part of them is from another plane of existence, so they're a little fearless of danger and not as quick on the draw with how things should work.

I once played a druid that had to disrobe to change shape. I wasn't familiar with the game and I didn't know if it would be right to assume it worked like it did in other games I've played so that's what I did. By the time I was informed otherwise it had become a colourful character trait so I didn't change it.

I was thinking any spell really. But the half-genie can't use them of their own accord until like lvl 10, at which point they can start using lvl 1 spells by themselves. So for really powerful spells/spells during the early levels, the half-genie has to rely on someone else requesting the spell. Then they just have to choose the spell that matches the requested effect. forgive me I'm mildly drunk so I might not be making much sense

Pathfinder kinda does this. What with most "genies" being based upon elemental planes of existence. Thus you have Slyph, Undines, Ifriti, and oreads. Though really they're just elemental humans.

Though in the original mythologies, Humans are made from earth and djinn are made from fire. They only become wish granting reality warpers when they stray from the path of enlightenment and become evil.

Still, I find the 'asking for spells' thing interesting, to make them sort of like mini-wishes. But that might be a little annoying in practice. Maybe they can use spells as you said - 3 spells, caster level being half your level - but they can have one of those spells be a spell of a higher level (or of another school?) used on them if someone else wishes for it. That way they can cast themselves, but still have the wishing element.

Maybe instead of having them 'wish' for anything, it might be simpler to restrict them to spells or effects that are stereotypical Genie wishes? Like using Charm Person to cause someone to fall in love, or creating money.

Also, I'd throw in adding Prestidigitation on top of this. Lets them take care of those tiny wishes and add some pizzazz.

Yeah, they're primarily Arabian/Islamic mythology. One of the three sentient creations of god.

Human magicians are typically people who have made allies with a djinn to dupe people. lifting objects in the air by "levitation" when its really the invisible djinn picking stuff up, or imitating voices of the deceased during a seance.
