Video game writing. Part of the problem is that Warcraft orcs were fun, and people liked to play them, and they thus became popular, so the writers tried to make them more sympathetic.
Personally, I prefer Warcraft 1 and 2. The orcs were definitely the bad guys, but they weren't simply evil and villainous for the sake of being such.
