Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own. Check out the pastebin for story, technologies, stats etc. pastebin.com/t7gWa2pa And an archive of previous threads if you want to skim through some of them. archive.4plebs.org/_/search/boards/pol.tg/subject/Civ/username/Civ bulgar/page/1/
Previously on Tundra civ: The Great War is over after nearly five years of fighting, almost all of it on the continent of Eyerdar. We, the Occidental Axis, defeated General Naebigi's rebels and their allies, the NPU. Casualties were in the millions. The God-Emperor of the Kaichou Empire has returned to his throne as well. As per our agreements with him, we've now annexed parts of the New Pajit Union's territory, including the Barniju Spice Islands off the eastern coast of Aymsland. We've gained 13 million new subjects.

The home continent was mostly unaffected by the war - in its initial stages there were rebels on SA and KE territory, but we swiftly dealt with them.
Landon Smith
Almost all of the battles in the war took place on Eyerdar. Trench warfare and massed artillery usage has left parts of the countryside devastated.

Putting a few extra pixels on the maps. Most of our reserves have been demobilised. These are able-bodied men who were working in farms, mines and factories before being called into action. Women and children made up for part of the lost productivity in their absence. Now that the war's over the men are back in their homes. Though many have been scarred and are struggling with shellshock, their lives go on. The government has provided grants and subsidies for the recovery of the agricultural sector. In time the primary sector of our economy will be back to full speed.

Let's combine the two, then. The state has funded the creation of hospitals that specialize in treating the wounds of the soul. Scientists and priests contribute to take care of our wounded warriors, our great vets - we love our vets, don't we? The government's care for the people has largely regained the public's trust. Work continues in the rebuilding of Eyerdar.

Rebuilding our nation is costing us money at the moment, but production is mostly back to pre-war rates. How shall we improve our economy? 1.Invest in agriculture and resources 2.Invest in manufacturing 3.Invest in infrastructure 4.Improve financial system 5.Cut some taxes to stimulate growth and make the free-market folks happier after all this public spending.

Traditional political movements in our nation have been the conservatives(traditionalists, proponents of a mixed economy) and liberals(prizing free thought and free enterprise). There've been socialist movements, but their links to enemies of the state have prevented a serious socialist party from gaining popularity. In recent years we've seen a restructuring of political parties in Parliament. Liberals have generally split into more socially minded and more market minded. Conservatives have split into cultural, urban and rural. The rurals have consolidated the support of most people who live outside the major cities. Having won the 1166 Upper Election(Council and Chancellor) the new government has pushed for fiscal reforms and better agricultural development.

We are roughly at 1920 tech The Great War led to great advances in the fields of transportation, naval and military technology. Any modern army must be able to field tanks, fighters, bombers, its soldiers must have good bolt-action rifles, static machine guns. The first submachine guns saw action, while in the navy the great battleships dominated ship-to-ship engagement and coastal bombardment, while submarines raided enemy shipping lanes. Radio and telephone made communication easier and wars deadlier. Which two areas shall we direct our efforts on developing? A.Industrial technology B.Transportation C.Chemistry D.Physics E.Electrical engineering F.Military G.Naval H.Other

I was thinking of suggesting that we should create a small college for the creation of "mechanical thinking machines". As we kinda lack the knowledge to make any electronic ones as of right now.
Nathaniel Wood
>we lack the knowledge to make any electronic ones we already have vacuum tubes, it won't be digital that's for sure but analog is good enough for sure, at least to build a powerful full turing computer with differential analyzer maybe kinda like ENIAC eventually, knowing how useful ENIAC was in 1943 when they started developpement. especially this: "Although the Ballistic Research Laboratory was the sponsor of ENIAC, one year into this three-year project John von Neumann, a mathematician working on the hydrogen bomb at Los Alamos, became aware of this computer.[27] Los Alamos subsequently became so involved with ENIAC that the first test problem ran consisted of computations for the hydrogen bomb, not artillery tables.[6] The input/output for this test was one million cards.[28]" If we can get such a device we would gain an unquantifiable edge over the KE.
Oliver Martinez
A. Industrial Technology C. Chemistry. We can use BOTH to boost agriculture as well as the lives of the common man.

True, another area i feel we should invest effort into civil design; we need apartment buildings and sky-scrapers. To make our cities far more space efficient and impressive.
Jeremiah Thomas
I had written a full post and was just looking for an image when power went out :/ Advances into technology have made industrial production, scientific advancement and life in general easier. New household appliances are becoming available - toasters, refrigerators, radios, quartz clocks. Scientists are developing better tabulating machines, while architects are able to build bigger and stronger buildings with reinforced concrete and steel beams.

>G.Research science Welcome to a new golden age. >i feel we should invest effort into civil design; we need apartment buildings and sky-scrapers. I don't think so, we don't need more people in the cities as is, our population growth will likely not force such a rural exodus that our cities will need to have people be cramped in small and tight living spaces, we don't need to build such spaces for our citizen, our empire is large, we have a great amount of resources and transportation is not an issue for our citizens, also building underground instead of over ground would likely be more impressive and defensible.

>E.Electrical engineering(appliances) >D.Physics(theoretical science, ballistics, radioactivity etc.) if we get a computer to research, we'll be able to works so much more efficiently, everything from wing flutter to nuclear and ballistics will be easier. Also TVs!
Sebastian Peterson
I started writing a new paste with lore on the various regions, but I'm lazy so I'll just use real-life analogues. The Northlands in Aymsland are scandinavians, Corelands and most of the temperate regions are various shades of germanic. A more mediterenean culture in the southwest of Aymsland given the climate and terrain. The east is mostly rural so a combination of slavlands. Northern Eyerdar is midwestern american, Southern Eyerdar is dixie/texan american, Veita is australian and Ocras is coastal american. In culture and accent, all of these, for the most part.

Advances have been made further into physics. The first television has been invented and the NSA has created a branch that performs research into ballistics and another one for mechanical processing machines(tabulators). At the Victory University of Natural Science new scientific theories are presented, expanding our knowledge on the structure of the world.

Both private and government-owned pharmaceutical companies have seen great expansion across our nation. New medicines such as penicilin are being introduced as well as various other medicinal products and drugs, better narcotics etc. New synthetic fibers have also been invented, a notable one being nylon, a viable replacement for silk. Industries employ better technologies, while architects build more comfortable, larger and cheaper buildings. The Kaichou and Chinks, having less space to spare in their homeland territories, have built the first skyscrapers. Some of these high, space-efficient buildings are being constructed in some of our bigger cities like Victory(which has a large chink population), but in most of our country people have plenty of space to build. Internal development roll.
