It would be really really really great if this thread would have a lot of pictures in it. Pictures from tes I like and have them not.

It would be really really really great if this thread would have a lot of actual lore discussion in it. Discussions on tes I like and have them, but not enough.
Zachary Gutierrez
With pictures, so we could have them.

I don't know. But we have this: >[Presently] the half-Elf [showed himself] bathed in [Meridian light] ... and he listed his bloodline in the Ayleidoon and spoke of his father, a god of the [previous kalpa's] World-River Now, that could be speaking of The Ruddy Man, so in other words Molag Bal.

So casting magic, usually summons Let's say summon a flame atronach for 30 seconds Is that spell, lore-wise, a single concentrated effort during the initial summon, or are summons a constant effort to upkeep and the time restraint is just gameplay
Grayson Clark
I'm sure it's possible to do it both ways, but it's likely much more practical to use the former. The whole point of summoning is to gain support, support is rather useless when you are forced to focus upkeep it.
Brayden Morgan

It's probable, but not a given. Even then, there's other beings with connections to the sea. Bal as Umaril's father is a good idea, but there's merit to several of the alternative theories as well. Other suggestions include Meridia and, in some way, Aka. I don't feel qualified to say anything definitive about it.

Isn't he too disgusted by Creation to play any part in things happening in Mundus? Even the whole existence of Magic he's revered for is only a side effect of him leaving.
Christian Martin

Wyatt Long
Zurin's connection to Magnus could be referential, in the manner that Zurin in many ways fulfills the Mage archetype, much like Sotha Sil. Likewise Varieties of Faith also states that Magnus is believed to sometimes come and bless people with incredible magical ability, which may just be a funny way of explaining why some people are unnaturally adept with magic. What I'm really saying here is that Zurin's connection to Magnus may be based in the fact that he is undeniably one of, if not, the greatest mage to ever live. However, it should also be mentioned that Magnus hasn't given up on Mundus. He regrets leaving and still looks back on the world. He does this through the Elder Scrolls that record history, and return to him whenever your hero becomes a legend. Which perhaps brings a whole new meaning to this quote. >Each event is preceded by prophecy. But, without the hero, there is no event. >Zurin Arctus
Zachary Parker
God I hope not. Fallout 4 was literally every horrible thing I was afraid would happen rolled into one game. Skyrim 2: Dank Meme Boogaloo is more than I can handle.

Breton wizards confirmed for superior fashion sense. The Traveller's League is best faction.

You never see them in the current tes games, so they might have been phased out or retconned Even oblivion didn't have them

Would you have been happy with Cyrodiil circa Oblivion if at least the Niben was more rainforest-y and distinct like pre-dragonbreak?
Easton Reed
Damn, that looks amazing. Would love more forest-y Oblivion, the lore in that game was pretty solid barring the lack of a significant nibenese/colovian split, and the jungle would top it off nicely.
Cooper Rodriguez
>the lore in that game was pretty solid Not really
Easton Miller
Honestly Bretons had some of the worst hair in Morrowind.
Oblivion was more or less a solid game. Even the potato faces aren't that bad, considering the fun speech minigame that makes good use of their expressiveness.
Henry Butler
It doesn't matter since it's not canon
Jack Taylor
>Based Mankar >Based Pelin-El >not solid
Andrew Gray
Why do people say this? Oblivion had some really great lore about things like Pelinal Whitestrake and Alessia, and getting to actually see some realms of Oblivion, as well as other little bits of lore about magic or life in Tamriel. You even get Lost Boy Cavern and its interest lich.
I can understand being mad that Cyrodiil wasn't was wild as was promised, but that's no reason to ignore the good lore presented.
Wyatt Rivera
It doesn't matter since it's not canon

>shitposting about canon did i accidentally wander into swg? What's your favorite weird lore tidbit, /tgesg/, let's try to salvage this thread

Hard to say...Probably the Sage, or maybe just the Songs of Pelinal. They might not be c0da crazy, but they have a fun tone of ancient legends carefully preserved.
Jayden Collins
>never do morrowind+expansions main quests despite putting 400+ hours into the game >decide to finally do a mq playthrough It's actually pretty damn cool, didn't expect them to tell you so early what really happened at red mountain though. Thank god for the internet, if I had rely solely on the shitty directions I don't know if I would be able to finish the game.

Let's talk about Orcs for a bit:
I've never enjoyed the idea of Orc chieftains having all the wives, personally. It seems like something that will always end in disaster and means you can only have communities so large.
But I've found an (unfortunately ESO) related source that talks about how a lot of the wives fulfill certain roles for the chief, including being bodyguards. Which to me not only makes these marriages seem more useful, instead of a waste of potentially useful warriors and bearers of children, and perhaps hints that these marriages are only political - perhaps the wives are allowed to have dalliances?
Tbh I don't even like the idea of Orcs being super tribal. The Skyrim-style Orc strongholds felt like too much of an attempt to make them seem primitive without actually making it interesting at all.
Dylan Williams
On that last note:
>The only troubling sign for Orsinium is a religious conflict that has brewed over the last ten years. Traditionally, the Orcs have worshiped the Daedra Malacath (Mauloch) as their patron deity. Gortwog, however, has established a new priesthood devoted to the worship of Trinimac, the ancient hero of the Orcs, who legend has it was devoured by Boethia and became the Daedra Malacath. The Orc King's belief that Trinimac still lives and that Malacath is a separate entity, a demon whose aim was to keep the Orsimer pariah folk forever, is the official position of the shaman priests of Orsinium. A minority of traditionalists within the territory, and the majority of Orcs without, view this as heresy. There is fear even among those who support Gortwog and Orsinium that turning their back on the Daedric Prince of the Bloody Oath is a dangerous policy indeed.
Do you think that the idea of worshiping Trinimac worked out? Or could it have ever worked?

Why does Azura have a dunmer-like complexion instead of looking like a chimer?
Gavin Bailey
You should say dunmer have an azura-line complexion. And it's because she's an attention whoring cunt.
Easton Miller
To display "sympathy" with the Dummer, I guess.
On a related note, don't the Khajiit insist that Azurah isn't the same as Azurah? Do they portray her as a cat?
Jordan Thompson
Because she's the true goddess of the dunmer. Not those other guys. She is. Her. Did you notice the skin?
Seriously, I think that's the downside to her manipulation of prophecy - she is honestly a jealous, petty person that would put Malacath to shame.

It's hard to tell, but Sotha looks like a pale dunmer to me
Alexander Lopez
That's honestly a really human skin tone.
Though seriously, the man looks fucked up. His fingers are claws, most of his body seems to be mechanical to the point where his legs are completely gone...sure, part of that might have been due to his fight with Almalexia, but still.
Joseph Mitchell
The eyes are yellow... I think
Jaxon Bell
He's also decomposing.
Alexander Morgan
He hasn't been dead that long, not as far as I know.
Why do I tear up at that broken mask? Is it the snarl that hid the handsome face behind, or the anger that hid the rictus scream beneath?
Noah Rodriguez
No, the Khajiit don't see Azurah as entirely separate from Azura, but she's to them very much a different kind of spirit. She doesn't appear to have a lot to do with the Azura seen in other myths, though that can be debated.
As for if they portray her as a cat, I really don't know. It would certainly not surprise me, seeing as they portray most other deities as cats. That said, there's a difference between Azurah and most other Khajiiti gods. The gods of the Khajiiti come in litters. The first litter is Alkosh, Khenarthi, Magrus, Mara and S'rendarr, most of whom are described as cats or cat-related. Khenarthi is just called the Winds. The second litter is Hermorah, Hircine, Merrunz, Mafala, Sangiin, Sheggorath and others. With the exception of Hermorah, who is called the Tides, all the others are described as cats. But Azurah is part of the final litter, together with the Moons and their Motions (the ja'Kha'jay), Nirni, and finally Lorkhaj. Later came Namiira. None of these are, to my knowledge, ever described as cats. The Moons and their Motions certainly aren't, nor is Nirni, who is Azurah's sister. I know Lorkhaj lends Ra'Wulfharth hor roar in "The Tale of Dro'Zira", which is kind of a cat-depiction. He's also called "Moon Beast", which isn't necessarily catlike either.
So I dunno. Azurah might be depicted as a cat, but in that case she's possibly be the odd one out from her litter.

Define effort. Its more of a dominance thing, there are rules to follow, and the summon has to be under your will, but its not really something you have to focus on like water breathing or resisting fire.
Jaxon Gonzalez
I'm pretty sure Sadras has existed before it replaced Hlaalu, it just wasn't part of the council.

Sotha Sil is said to be a Dunmer in 2920 iirc. while it could be said that's a bad source it makes sense given Sotha Sil is always the guy talking about the glorious new future of the Velothi, one source even mentions how he states the change to Dunmer was a blessing rather than a curse. It also works rather poetically, given we have one god who is golden, one god who os half golden half grey, and then what would be one god who is grey.
