Is making abilities complex a good or bad thing?

Like I saw people complaining on Crown Quest how some of the abilities were uninspired, but to me it just seems like they wanted it complex for the sake of complexity.

Speaking as someone who's been lucid dreaming for years and gotten quite good at it, it is VERY highly overrated. Your brain doesn't actually have the processing capacity to pull off the virtual reality paradise you're probably imagining. Yeah, you can lucid dream landscapes - but most of it would be low resolution nothing for most of the time. You can dream cities, but there'd be very few actual people in there. You can dream hot chicks, but they wouldn't have any personality and there's no point in directly mentally instructing someone on how to talk to you. That's not conversation.

There's only so much time you can spend flying amidst skyscrapers which turn out to be empty if you look too closely at the windows before you realize it isn't what it's been hyped up to be.
