Shinobi Quest #2

Shinobi Quest #2

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, our character Tsuki Norihime completed her Genin examination, lost a match of Shogi to Shikamaru, and received her team assignment-

Hinata Hyuga, a quiet girl from a powerful house with a strong bloodline

Nori Uzumaki, your rather unpleasant and tempestuous rival, the daughter of the 4th Hokage.

And your Sensei, the inscrutable Ebisu.

You aren’t really sure how it could be any worse.

“Your new sensei will find you all individually before the day is out- all of you are free to go.” Mizuki proclaims, clearly happy to be free of the lot of you.

Your new teammates are still chatting in the corner, likely celebrating.

What will you do?

1. Join Them. Might as well make the best of this.
2. Go into town. You need something to distract you. (Where will you go?)
3. Go home. You want some time to yourself- it’s likely to be the last peace and quiet you’ll have for a while.

Don't respond or quote people.

To whom? The QM? Nah, bruh

Sounds like it's time for a little teambuilding.

Writing.

You know who I meant.

>Join them.

We need to lord over Nori, make friends with Hinata, and see what they're talking about.

...

You opt to to try and make the best of things. Starting trouble now will only lead to more problems later. Hinata may not even be that bad.

Maybe.

You take the initiative and head over to them. “Well then, it would seem we’re to be teammates.” you muse. “I look forward to working with you, Hinata.”

“O-oh yes! I look forward very much to working with you as well, Tsuki!” Hinata responds, clearly not sure how to deal with your directness. The two of you haven’t spoken much, but she’s a polite girl.

Nori just glares at you, not saying anything.

How do you respond?

1. Attempt to make peace with Nori
2. Snark back at her. You’re obviously trying to be friendly, and she’s being difficult!
>Write-in

>3. Attempt to make peace but add in some hidden snark that only someone of culture would be able to pick up on.

This is fine.

Making peace as far as is possible for one like her~

We have class, good sir!

Good sir! If you read the first thread, than you should know that the husbando wars were raging quite hard!

And Lee shall be our husbando, he who is our complete opposite in stats and upbringing!

Indeed!

Fine, fine
I'll settle for hand-holding

Except Lee has none. Absolutely no class just look at those eyebrows. We are going for a Hyuuga or Senju.

You smile-

“Why, I’m quite looking forward to working with you as well, Uzumaki-chan.” you say sweetly, with your eyes narrowed only slightly in disgust.

“Huh? You don’t need to be so formal, you know…” Nori looks puzzled by your saccharine pleasantries.

“Ohoho, but I must! It is our duty as highborn ladies of our respective clans to be polite to those who may be lesser. It is not their fault, after all.” You laugh at her confusion.

“Right. You sound like Ebisu-sensei.” She responds, not picking up at the dig.

“You must always be representative of your father, the Hokage”, she drones, clearly reciting this from memory. “Your actions will always reflect upon him and the entire Uzumaki clan.”

While you’re uninterested in her inability to act the part of a lady, she does bring up something worth conversing about.

That man- Ebisu-sensei.

1. Ask about Ebisu-sensei. You’ve heard some rather uncouth rumors about him.
2. Refrain, and ask about something else (What?)
3. Refrain, and excuse yourself. You have things you need to do before tomorrow.

Maybe he isn't that bad, right?

>4. Furthermore isn't it odd that his team is made up entirely of daughters of important clans? Uzumaki, Norihime and Hyuuga.

>1. Ask about Ebisu-sensei. You’ve heard some rather uncouth rumors about him.

And? user, don't you know about the stories where the poor peasant warrior marries the rich princess?

Besides, marrying into the Hyuuga is bad because Caged Bird seal, and iirc there's no Senju left.

>Ask about Ebisu-sensei. Surely he can't be THAT bad. Right?

Time to discuss Ebisu~

Writing

Main Branch baby. Senju might still be around given Minato is still hokage. Wargle, even though phone thinks ya be War God, history dump?

If you are going to dump, do it in-character, OOC stuff is terrible. Just wait until we can ask someone about it.

We could always marry for status and power, and have a naughty present boy on the side.

Pretty sure Minato's family was never revealed in canon, and him being a Senju is fanon, iirc.

Nah. We should marry for love and money. Our womanhood is only for the best man that earns it.

I didn't mean to insinuate that Minato was Senju. Just that if he was still around the Senju might be as well. Granted I know very little of it. Just what gets thrown around in quests.

Minato's a Namikaze, nothing ever got expanded on them

Just read the pastebin and Ebisu is as strong as we are! He a bitch!!

All this marrying power into power thing we are talking about has adjusted my mental image of Tsuki. Who else thinks we look like anime Natalie Dormer/Margaery tyrell?

Nice image mate. Just need her more ninja and it'd fit.

No time like the present, and besides, Nori seems to know the man.

“Had some experiences with our future sensei, have you? I’ve heard some things… You don't think our families would let us be taught by some sort of... deviant, do you?” you ask.

“He’s a bit odd, sure.” she starts slowly, trying to word herself carefully. “But he’s mostly harmless. He’s snuck off a few times to peep in a bathouse or two, I’m sure, but we don’t have anything to worry about.” She pauses, and looks between the three of you. “We’re daughters of three of the most powerful families in Konoha. I really don’t think he’s stupid to try anything.”

You aren’t so sure, but clearly Nori hasn’t had any problems. You sincerely doubt the man would brazen to try anything on the daughter of the Hokage, or the Heiresses of the Norihime or Hyuuga clans. It would be suicide.

“Speaking of our families,” Hinata pipes up,”Isn’t it a bit odd that the three of us are together?”

“Probably a political move, I’d wager”, you respond quickly, your mind quickly resolving the question. “Tie three of the most influential families of Konoha together, and keep them safe at the same time.”

You groan. “We’ll probably be chasing a lot of cats.”

Nori echos the sentiment “Maaaaan. I was hoping for some extra-special kunoichi training, you know? Ehehehe.”

You don’t know. Probably not worth knowing, either.

Either way, you will be able to confirm your suspicions soon enough.

Everyone seems to be filtering out of the classroom, with Mizuki and Iruka handing out the Leaf Forehead protectors as people go.

Time to go, you think to yourself.

But where?

1. Town. you need to pick up supplies. (Where in town?)
2. Home. You need to tell father, and you want some time to yourself.
3. Invite the two of them into town with you. Might as well continue this teambuilding exercise.

>3. Invite the two of them into town with you. Might as well continue this teambuilding exercise.
We must dress Nori up to our standards.

>3. Invite the two of them into town with you. Might as well continue this teambuilding exercise.
Just be sure to watch our backs yeah?

He is a professional teacher for kage's kids. He is super smart and talented with ninjutsu and hand seals. Things he can teach. Can't teach being swole AF

>2. Home. You need to tell father, and you want some time to yourself.

3. Invite the two of them into town with you. Might as well continue this teambuilding exercise.

team shenanigans!

And how is he supposed to protect them if he's a wimp?

>2. Home. You need to tell father, and you want some time to yourself.

Team shopping spree? Writing.

Kinda hoping this shit is secretly a badass in this reality

I hope he's better at teaching than fighting

“Would the two of you like to join me for a trip into town? I figure it’d be a good idea to stock up on supplies before meeting Ebisu-sensei tomorrow.” you offer. Might as well stick together for now.

“Eh? Sure, might as well. Family probably isn’t home, anyway.” Nori says, seemingly surprised at the offer.

Hinata hesitates. “I would like that…”, she starts,”But I need to head over to the compound. Father will be waiting for me.”

Not too surprising. From what you understand the Hyuuga family is a strict one.

Now you’re stuck with Nori, though.

The three of you head out of the classroom, collecting your headbands, and saying goodbye to your former sensei. After leaving the Academy, Hinata splits from your group to head towards the Hyuuga compound. As Nori and yourself bid her farewell, you turn towards Nori as she asks you a question.

“So where to, Princess?” She gives you a toothy grin.

1. Weapons Shop. Gotta stock up.
2. Top of the Hokage rock. It’s relaxing up there, and you could probably ask Nori about her family

Fucker can't peep on us if were peeping on him first.

But I did, user.

no he didn't. You just missed it. twitter.com/WargleQM/status/732738125856935936

While we are not physically strong, it's never a bad idea to stock up on weapons.

Legitimate question not born of maliciousness

Aren't quest threads supposed to be on /qst/ now?

So what should our backup weapon be since were basically playing a mage. A staff/bo maybe one that unfolds into a massive fan (cue shenanigans with Temari), or maybe something symbolic like a mirror shield? obviously we'd pick up a much more basic version of whatever we choose on this shopping trip.

Don't need to be if you have the money to buy paper bombs in bulk.

I don't think so, because it's still a trial board. Like, they can go there, but it's not enforced yet.

I vote a metal deck of cards, because why not.

>Fan made of metal deck of cards
This, please.

Because it's a trial board still, no; quests on tg are fine until qst is proven as a concept if it ever is. Plus quests seem to pick up more of an initial audience here with a lower number of chucklefucks.

I say Naginata. It is the traditional weapon of Japanese royalty, and it helps our low strength and reach. Also, Veeky Forums loves pole arms.

oooh, Iron fans were a thing for like army commanders iirc, having one that can break apart into throwable metal cards would be fun.

I'd pick a lady-like instrument like a small harp or flute or something. We can use sound-based genjutsu from it, play some sweet tunes when not in combat, and you can whack someone with it if they get too close.

bladed folding fan

for the ojou in combat

Right, time to head to the Weapons Shop. That’s what the offer was predicated on, after all.
“Well, I figure we can head over to Tenten’s family’s place. We can stock up on whatever supplies we need for tomorrow and onward.” you answer.

“Weapons, eh? Sounds good. I probably need to pick up a few more ranged weapons- although I’m more of a close range kinda girl” Nori laughs, and throws a few quick jabs at the air.

The two of you head along the pathway towards the shop, mainly focusing on not losing each other in the crowd. Konoha is busy this time of year, with both the Genin examinations, and the spring Chunin exams being scheduled very soon after. It’s a shame you’ll probably be too busy to watch.

Nori picks up the dropped conversation once the crowd begins to thin out.
“Is there anything specific weapon wise you’re looking for? Not to tease you or anything, Princess, but you aren’t like me. Up close and personal combat doesn’t really seem your thing, you know?

“Well I am most certainly not like you.” you retort, although maybe not as harshly as you once might’ve. “I’ve got a few things I’m considering.”

“Oh?” she says inquisitively, “like what? Now I’m curious.”

1. Something Close-range. You plan to strengthen that weakness.

2. Something middle to far range. Tactical ranged weapons are more your speed.

3. Only stocking up on the basics- kunai, wires, tags. Probably will avoid an actual dedicated weapon.

4. It’s a surprise!

(Preliminary weapon votes, go)

hmm a naginata would be fun too, maybe give it telescoping haft for portability + ability to become a machete type thing when needed?

Middle to far range for us

4 and 2 if we can do two.

I'm voting for a collapsible flute.

>2. Something middle to far range. Tactical ranged weapons are more your speed.

With a little 4 thrown in.

>1. Something Close-range. You plan to strengthen that weakness.

some kind of weaponized fan. Tessnjutsu is a thing you know

2. Something middle to far range. Tactical ranged weapons are more your speed.

combining all the things discussed so far, a large collapse-able flute paired with a bladed fan that can be attached to the flute when folded to form a polearm, fan can also be wielded independently for close quarters work.

Anyone else thinking a bow could be cool?

No close range for us. Hope Nori likes surprises!

Writing.

>4. It’s a surprise!

>1. Something Close-range. You plan to strengthen that weakness.
Close to mid range - a colapsible razor-edged fan. Good for cutting, slapping, and ohohoho!ing.

with plenty of gimmick ninja arrows?

exploding arrows
elemental based arrows
poison cloud arrows
smokescreen arrows

Ninja Green arrow quest is go!?

>"Uchiha Obito. You have failed this village."

That'd be fucking awesome.
Plus, with genjutsu, you could fool opponents into thinking only a few arrows has become a veritable storm of sharp pointy sticks.

Boxing glove arrow

You dick! Ya beat me to it!

Literally every bow hero does that shit though.
