Who was in the wrong here?

Everyone.

gimped in what capacity?

What did you say over chat?

Well what did you say?

What did you say in the chat?

How did he "gimp " you and what did you say?

On one hand, permanent gimps are often overly harsh punishments given for flimsy/unexpected reasons, on the other it sounds like you did something stupid and are dealing with the consequences in an immature way.

Needs more context to make any judgements based on anything but speculation.

CONTEXT

...and also sauce

Talking about vaporwave on FB chat w/ another player.

Stat loss. I know I'm not getting those number back since he's that sort of DM.

So... your DM nuked you're characters stats because you talked about music on FaceBook. Yeah... he's a douche.

You have bad tastes maybe, but that DM doesn't seem very fun to play with if he is going to punish you in game for your bad tastes

DM is a cunt for gimping you in game for talking about shitty meme music.

It happened to me too. Context : A while ago there was a running joke in the French speaking roleplaying scene based on a youtube video.

It was a comedy where a guy played a lvl 1 rogue with his friends who played lvl 54 and 67 paladin and wizard. During the night, he trolls them by raping the paladin asshole.

So we were playing a random campaign and our characters settle for the night. We agree to have people in guard duty, rotating over the course of the night. I just say a line from the video as a joke, the DM tells everyone that I assrape someone.

I just lost all investment in my character and in the game at this point.

Were you in-game when it happened?

You'd better have been listening to good vaporwave, and not that meme trash that's popular with the 'A E S T H E T I C' crowd

>good vaporwave, and not that meme trash that's popular with the 'A E S T H E T I C' crowd

What's the difference?

youtube.com/watch?v=AhxLyMDuGr8

>being punished in character for something you do out of character

Sounds like your dm isn't the kind of person who can handle being in a position of authority responsibly. Personal attacks through the game are ridiculous. Bail.

I don't like much vaporwave but this is good.

>dealing with the consequences in an immature way.
How is just walking away being immature?

I too was just downloading porn pics from this cosplay thread on /s/.

I saw it as a "taking my ball and going home" response but now that OP has given context I probably would have just left too if I were in his shoes.

One's only popular because it appeals to the irony or post-irony of a bunch of normies

The other is actually pretty decent techno music.

Define 'good' vaporwave.

Vektroid and Blank Banshee are good places to start but if you don't like electronica you won't like vaporwave plain and simple.

The DM. If you are going to be a DM you have to remain neutral when it comes to the game. The only reason to single out an individual player would be for story purposes,

This story is too stupid to believe.

I mean, we all know shitty DMs, so I could buy that part. What I can't buy is literally everyone agreeing with him.

It is not uncommon for DMs to develop god complexes and other players that feel they benefit fro playing in to the DMs complex to support them even when they know it is wrong. It kinda goes along with the "at least its not me" and the "if is support him it will be me" attitude.

Don't mind your plebeian DM, not only he is that guy, but also have shit taste.

You deserve it for disrupting the game with your off-topic bullshit.

Answer unclear, OP may be faggot.

Sounds like OP might be a faggot, but OP's DM is definitely a colossal turbo faggot. OP is tentatively in the right for walking away.

Were you talking to this guy mid game? As a GM I would find that rude not focusing on my game.

Legit question, what is an example of good vaporwave?

Unless you were being disruptive (as judged by other players and the GM, not you), your GM is in the wrong and a colossal asshole. If you were, you and your GM are both assholes, and you're both wrong.

I know shitty people so I can easily believe the shitty DM part. As for the other people, it's likely since they weren't the ones to get screwed by the DM they didn't particularly care, but the player leaving the table would get in the way of their fun, especially if he was a central element of the party, so I can believe they would blame him and not the DM.

That's a really good cosplay.

> Bail.
They already did.
Read the OP, douche.

>lvl 54 and 67 paladin and wizard
What?

>You went full Boba Fett
Never go full Boba Fett

Yeah,in the video context they kept the same characters for at least 5-10 years of at least one seesion per week,so it adds up

Gutts

can you post the video for us.

The simple fact that you chose to walk away rather than bitch or argue automatically makes you atleast sort of right, atleast.

Sounds like it's in French though.

This sounds like the background music for b-grade anime from the 70s-80s.

That's not half bad, thanks user

The one that left out half of the story's context while making this post.

Only reason to leave details out is if they don't serve you.

youtu.be/nhmUj9QJ9RM

I know, I want to show it to my french friends.

Surprising almost everyone, it turns out that Veeky Forums has excellent taste in vaporwave.

>memewave

You deserved it.

see

Yeah.

I don'the know if you knew it but Veeky Forums has always had patrician taste in music, aso long as they arn'the trying to fit in.

You were. Fucking off on Facebook/not paying attention to the game, whining nonstop when we derided your shitty anime "vaporwave" remix to go along with your kitsune bard's inspire courage "song"
>permanently gimps my character
yeah, it's called taking a negative level and it's what happens when you aren't paying attention and fail a save because you are holding up the game.
>calmly leave the table
in the middle of the session while leaving your mic on blasting your vaporware in roll20. Yeah, really calm and mature.

This is the DMs fault
Walking away and not responding to is the best way to deal with immature people

YESSSS THE DRAMA INCREASES

samefag

Nah, check poster #ers

Out of curiosity, what happened to the other player who he was talking to on FB?

well then the second guy is just retarded

So you punished him IC for OOC actions
what a douche

please tell me this is real

That woman is so damn cute...

Nah.
I'm absolutely certain it's just some user trying to meme it up.

If you were using FB during the game you're a cunt and they're better off without you. Expecting players to focus 100% on the game for a couple hours a week isn't too much to ask.

The 'kitsune bard' is the step beyond believability.

Anyone playing that would have been way more of a pathetic crybaby in the OP.

Perhaps they are playing PARANOIA.

Depends if he was even in the area at the time. If they split up in a town/city then theres no need to be attentive as your character is not there if it is not your turn. Group A could be out scouting security or some shit which could take maybe thirty minutes or more depending how in-depth they attempt to be or are told to be. Why should you be "100% attentive" when your character is not even supposed to know what is going on?

In battle or group conversations when everyones character is present then yeah, don't be a dick on facebook and pay attention god dammit, but if not then who cares what someone else is doing while they wait for the time to pass back to them?

Don't look at me, I keep thinking its about a dab bong

Roll20 is srs bzn..

Worse my irl dm did to a player who talked ooc too much was give him a curse item that breaks the fourth wall and wishes his ooc comments to be true.

In the described situation another player AND the GM himself were perusing it too

bretty gud cosplay

lol what? leave that group. get far, far away from that group

>millennial can't get off social media to concentrate, gets called on it

As a GM nothing is more annoying than players chatting off topic on social media then asking if its their turn yet

Music chat is among the worst because then you get LMAO LET ME SHOW YOU THIS EPIC VIDEO

The closest I have come to kicking a player was when he took my having some ambient music appropriate to the scene as justification to play Dragonforce/Nightwish/the John Cena theme etc to "make the game EPIC"

Level drain isn't really a fair punishment but I am at least a little sympathetic to.the DM having been there before、

I'm glad to see someone has finally taken the age old advice and just left a shit group. Gimping someone IC for OOC is never acceptable, and with the explanation you and the reaction of your GM(even if it was most likely an user memeing) shows you clearly made the rational and mature decision here.

That's generally why you talk shit out like adults, rather than punishing them IC for OOC bullshit that has no relation to what's happening in-game.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bard? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in Veeky Forums, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Quest Threads, and I have over 300 confirmed TPKs. I am trained in GURPS and I’m the top DM in the entire roll20 forums. You are nothing to me but just another PC. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on Middle Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my personal army on /b/ and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your character. You’re fucking stat-lossed, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, as long as Mom will let me borrow the car, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with Grimtooth's Traps. Not only am I extensively trained in rolling dice so they get the results I want, but I have access to the entire arsenal of 3.5 supplements, and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of this specific thread, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “vaporwave” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit passive aggression all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking drained, kitsune.

what the fuck is "vaporwave"?

>having kikebook
You deserved it.

I'm sorry, but I can't hear you over the sound of those glorious teddies

I've seen it happen. DMs are in short supply, so people cater to them. Then op gets fucked with, and they keep quiet. Then OP walks, and suddenly they care because they don't want their game to fall apart.

OP was right to quit. The GM is always right, but only for as long as his game is more fun than the next best alternative.

Hello, Ethan!

your player's and gm are retards
and you're retard too because you hang out with them

OP said he(?) got up and left, thus no longer hanging out with them.

Whats the whole story? What did you say to get gimped?

see

>Talking about vaporwave on FB chat w/ another player.
Did the other player get stat loss, too?
If not, you're not telling the whole story, or have missed the point.

Mistyped vapourwave.

Dude just let me show you this video, it's awesome.

I did, in my situation. The player unfucked themself. All was good.

It is frustrating though and not everyone likes to confront someone.

I get the feeling you are not telling the whole story

Soooo... did the other player get a stat loss as well?

It's not, but making a thread about it without explaining the situation in more detail and trying to get random anons to legitimize his actions definitely is.

>So you punished him IC for OOC actions
what a douche

It's not worse than holding up the session with OOC conversation.

There are only so many ways to enforce discipline in online games, some times you have to outdick the disruptive player. In-character penalties and kicking someone out of the group is basically the only real ways of disciplining someone.

fucking with a player's character to get them to pay attention is the lamest and most passive aggressive way to do it though. Say "hey if you don't want to play leave. If you do want to play focus on the game."

o shieeeet

If you can't handle confrontation with someone then, honestly, you shouldn't be sitting in the GM chair.
