Freeform roleplays have always been a source of cringe, autism, poorly-written sex, and mountains of bitching, drama, dodging bullets, teleporting behind u, hellfire, demon forms, and avatars that were gotten by searching "anime boy" on photobucket. A cesspool of 12 year old degenerates, pedophiles, poképhiles, and mutation fetishists.

And you were involved in it at least once. Don't lie. Got any stories of cringe or awesomeness?

To samefaggery.

I once got caught up in a physics lesson involving science textbooks, basic math, common sense, logic, and Phoenix Wright memes when some fuckwit claimed he could dodge a bullet from a sniper rifle with a bullet velocity approaching 1700mps. It devolved into a shouting match, the outing of a tranny, release of chatlogs with cybering, chat being spammed to where it crashed, and everyone's avatar being changed to porn (programmer was an idiot and that was easy to do).

He then went to another one and started screaming about being "godmodded" and how we were "autoing bastards" and went on a tangent about his pedophilia and how he read a doujin about two shotas in the womb.

Yes, he was autistic. No, he wasn't a Brony but he was a Sonic fan who had Toothless as a character and often cybered with him.

no, i never did freeform

> flashsteps behind u
> unzips katana
> 'he, this is two ez'
> u r ded

Yeah, i've done freeform before... For about a year, give or take, and then I was done.

I could only handle so many half-demon, half-vampire, half-satyr, half-cyborgs.
>But that's 200%!
>Yeah, but muh free-form, now kneel to me you simple human because i'm more awesome than you, and if you don't i'll report you to a mod.
>I'll show myself out.

Every holidays i take time to write ttrpg or stories, 2 year ago i was uninspired and decided to try my luck on a skype rp forum. I've written a shot presentation and quickly began to chat with a girl on a pirate story, at the end of the 3rd session i switched the subject to her and we started to meet each other. 2 months lather i move from Switzerland to France to meet her. We had a short and lovely relation and never speaked about freeform rp again. (sorry for bad English.)

How can you be half a cyborg when they're half robot?

I was a part of a Bleach RP and another bullshit RP on gaia online when I was like 12. There might have been drama if they both had actual RP beyond characters being made. Kinda killed my interest in RP as a kid.

Everything mentioned here has happened in campaigns I've played in

I've never played freeform

I played on a Hunger Games rp forum as a teenager,
Everyone was constantly armed despite living in a police state and in poverty and were super athletes because "training"
I guess with "training" you can have a standing six foot vertical leap and jump from tree to tree in what was suppose to be a relatively grounded world.

Well that's nice.

It's like a regular robot, but with the brain only half-finished. Or finished but bought at 50% off.

>tfw freeform RP is almost non-existent

Used to hang out on a WoW RP server.

The game of course is not conducive to anything other than standing around and talking, but occasionally "fights" would break out.

>/e Gogonax Ripfang throws a punch at the elf.
>/e Dark Ranger-in-Training Verona Shadowblood expertly rolls out of the way.

And that'd just go on for like ten minutes.

Also a lot of impossible races like Yuangol (Not!Mongol yak-people who hate everyone) or Gilbins (barely sapient sea goblins who hate everyone).

And of course a lot of not-problems like amputated limbs. I say "not-problem" because every OC missing an arm had a fully functional mechanical prosthetic filled to the brim with gadgets, tools, and quality-of-life improvements.

That's all on top of standard Sonicfag fanfiction tropes. Every other person said they spent half their time "training".

Used to be part of a transformers Rpg for a few years that actually had a decent and fun community until one that guy trashed it all. Dude made multiple accounts and pretended they were friends of his who all just happened to have the exact same speaking style as him. Made the max 5 characters on every account. All at the max allowed height and all with the same super serious and contemptuous personality. Unfortunately the sperglord site owner didn't care about anything beyond the g1 sub forum that he obsessed over so we couldn't get him banned and the place died under his tide of monotonous bullshit.

>I say "not-problem" because every OC missing an arm had a fully functional mechanical prosthetic filled to the brim with gadgets, tools, and quality-of-life improvements.
One RPC of mine actually lost an arm and a leg to meningitis when he was young, and had to get them amputated. He does have prosthetics, but there's nothing "special" about them. No hidden guns, no stunners, no NANA PUNCH, just functional limbs. In fact, most of my characters were low-power for the most part.

People loved his ridiculously sarcastic personality though. Which drove the half-demon-power-of-darkness-2-edgy-4-u faggots absolutely insane.

>tfw freeform RP is all you ever encounter

>Or finished but bought at 50% off.
Ah, you bought a Frame from Overclock-My-Own-Stack D8L4, didn't you?

Quite a lot of stories after spending too much in time in the hobby. Way too many, oh where to start.

Probably in reverse, there is a site out there that attempted to clamp down on that sort of shit so badly when started up. Many years down the road as there are more people leaving/retiring from the format then actual freshblood it's just a handful of cliques and IP based rooms if anything.

Nope, I dodged this bullet but not having a computer until I was 19. Some times it pays to be a poorfag.

Do tell, user. If there's one thing I've learned about Veeky Forums, it's that we love stories of meddling and crackdowns ruining everything.

I feel blessed by not having been into anime through middle school.

I won't lie, I've spent alot of time in a freeform RP environment. Rolepages, I loved that place, but my autism, awkwardness and general shittery has made me get to a point where I don't wish to return there, also drama of course.

So, gonna ask. Anyone here know of an active Freeform Roleplay set in a chat rather than forum play by post?

I was pretty spergy in middle school, but even then I thought anime was dumb. All my friends were into Naruto and wore those stupid headbands, and I couldn't understand why they thought it was cool.

I'm so glad I didn't grow up into a weaboo.

I was part of a Jojofag site once, everything was actually pretty mute for the most part. I wasn't really good at freeform, so it took me a while to adjust.
I got pretty bored of it after a site shakeup, but I don't really have any notable stories.
F-List is full of sperglords with no subtlety. I gave it a college try, but I'm never going back except maybe to delete my characters.

I'm jelly of his house. What a comfy looking joint

Its a trailer, there is very little room in those things but they're much bigger on the inside than you would think.

Alright since you so kindly asked. I joined up in a freeform chat community in the late 90s. Multiple rooms and usually multiple genres represented. The fantasy rooms ended up being nexus like rooms where everything sort of showed up even though the room rules occasionally said otherwise. The hosts had little power to deal with these issues.

Two rooms though used their banning power to make anything they didn't like were removed. Most others just avoided those two places.

This wasn't much of a problem until a few years later when the entire site died. All those that had the programming skills were in those two rooms. New site sprang up, stricter rules though all the old places were invited back if they so wanted to. Many did though it wasn't to last.

The most outspoken of the rooms got into a feud with the SysOps of the new place. SysOps pretty much banned many that were affiliated with that room and deleted the room. Many of the other places didn't like how this went and bailed ship. This is a bit of an oversimplification but the these events left the site with a little bit a bad rep in the overall freeform community as it was for the moment.

Many of the rules of the site itself are not newbie friendly. A good many of the rooms to actually play in are less so. It's been a slow and painful death for the site since then.

Actually, some of the best games I've ever played in my life were GMless PBP freeform. It just takes the right players to be in there. One game I remember very well took almost place almost entirely in a hospice, involving a cast of terminally ill people (12 at the youngest, 98 at the oldest) discussing life and their hopes and regrets before the end. The other one started with the premise of "A pub which exists between all worlds. Everything goes, but stay in the pub", and included some mediocre roleplay until someone decided to take matters to their own hands, blew up the pub, and somehow everyone communally GM'd ourselves into a multiverse spanning epic adventure involving dionsaurs, the Greek pantheon,an alien invader and the Archangel of Oranges.

Most of my exposure to freeform was through people who watch entirely too much anime. I've met plenty of weebs who were good roleplayers, but like any reasonable person, they enjoy their anime in moderation. These guys? Not so much.

Think about the structure of your average shounen anime. You know, the trashy shit made for 12 year old Japanese boys, with year-long tournament arcs, ass-pull power-ups, and winning by just plain being stronger. These shows generally have a single protagonist who is some kind of chosen one, inheritor, successor, or someone at the center of a prophecy or destiny, with a supporting cast that exists to job to the badguy or make the protagonist look cooler and stronger.

Now imagine entire IRC channels and internet forums full of people who are playing protagonists. Every single one of them thinks their character is the sole hero of the story, and that everyone else's characters are there as the supporting cast. Everybody preening and angsting, everyone pulling out some new and more powerful special technique every fight, trying to steal the spotlight from everyone else, all the time, always, forever.

It was a special sort of hell.

That is why freeform and anime don't mix. Enjoy your anime responsibly, and don't let it turn you into a shitty roleplayer.

Oh I get those feels, I played in a fantasy room that was overfilled with Saiyans. I suppose at the time I was playing freeform there weren't a lot of shounen out and over here.

My latest freeform experience was actually pretty great. It was a superheroes setting where I played an originally normal human with a cyborg arm; as the superpowers around her got ever more over the top, she just built herself crazier and crazier weapons; her main one was a small HEAT round attached to the back of her hand, the anti-tank punch. There were also blades, energy weapons, and at the end of one arc, a nuclear bomb-pumped laser that blasted down from orbit and onto earth to kill that arc's main villain.

Later, she married a cryokinetic girl and they built an android daughter together, shortly before the three of them became the villains.

>freeform RP on a forum DM'd by a friend you know is not shit and a group of friends you also know are not shit
the best

though it still has the problem with everything pbp which is that people just stop posting for no reason

>chuckles and smirks
>smirks and chuckles
>chuckles a bit
>smirks slightly
>smirks a bit
>chuckles a smirk
>smuckles
>chirks
>smirks "heh"

There, you've now read every possible post in any freeform roleplay, so you never have to do any.

It has nice carpets...

>that pic
You forgot gay shemale draenei.

...

What is it with Sonic the Hedgehog and autists?

As a series, Sonic is heavily geared towards kids 8-12 who are just making their first foray into fandom. It has just slightly more depth than anything they've been into before(except for those who grew up watching Last Airbender) and enough potential for OCs without any clear limitations or guidelines. Most kids spend a year or less interested in it, but some stick with what they have

The worst FFRP sites are the ones where non-hosts interfere.

> A whole cast 12 year old, wannabe ninja, weebs who are sadly the heroes of the world.
>They constantly passively-aggressively try to prove who is the most bad ass by pulling off stupid moves and backstories, while the world has to suffer being saved by those incompetent annoying losers.

Seems like a good idea for a story....

The characters are also easy to draw and lend themselves well to templates and recolours, since all the characters are identifiable by simple silhouettes and bright primary colours. This means any talentless schmuck with MSPaint can make their own Original the Hedgehog (because of course they're all hedgehogs).

There's also the whole 90s 12-year-old Cool thing that Sonic has going for him, and autists never really grow out of liking 12-year-old Cool things.

>playing the RPG equivalent of a black and white French film

Could be fun if you were just interested in character writing at the time.

>tfw played a fucking dire troll (after some unfortunate shenanigans happened to my very weedy forest troll)
>tfw tried to still be upbeat and bantery
>tfw was probably part of the problem

kill me

Ah, the coolness of the 90's.

A vampire with a trenchcoat and sunglasses, but the important question: two desert eagles, or two katanas?

Yes.

>"I'm just playing my character! Why are you so opposed to roleplay, munchkin?"

I had, and still have, a functioning IMVU account, a 3D avatar server where they have a steadily dying freeform RP community.

There are a few people that actually like to engage in proper RP. I think I still have the account from my earliest days of roleplaying simply out of habit and my friendsships with those legitimate people....

Make no mistake though, for every example provided in this thread, IMVU is the home to all of them. Hell, there's probably two or three guys out there that embody EVERY SINGLE trait listed.

I like to go there occasionally, firstly out of a masochistic sense of reminding myself how not to do..... ANYTHING.
Perhaps as penance for the fact that I made a character somewhat like that when I was 15.
Occasionally, though, it's for the sheer joy of trolling those insecure fucks, provoking the very compensating reasons they make their little god characters and vampire-demon-werewolf-shinigami hybrid characters; nothing destroys everything they are faster than asking them questions.

A few weeks ago pm Veeky Forums I was talking about a sack of shit named "Lance". Lance was a tranny and was PROUD OF IT.

Most people refused to play with Lance and avoided them because they would cry to the admins and were pretty prevalent with meta-gaming, so they'd make sock account and pretend to be a different person until they opened their cunny-flap mouth; one post and you fucking knew. Lance was verbose, using terms you'd not expect, so it was easy to pick them out. (pic so related)

Signs it was Lance:
>Tranny Characters/Male characters with hightened libidos.
>Tried to fuck you at the start, saying that their teen char was "experiencing puberty"
>got pissy when someone complained about them being a spastic
>insane characters with randumb posting
>always part of the edgy admin-ran rp societies.
>Would add something dangerous because why the fuck not. (literally tried rocks fall you died.)
>abandon their character/s especially if they were captured, killed or attacked.

I was once known for kicking people off a certain ledge.

And I pray no one recognizes this.
