My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.
Thanks to said superpowers, I've been dragged into all sorts of horrible situations, the latest of which involves a masked thief who wanted revenge against me for killing a friend of his.
...but not it seems that HE'S dead too. I can't say that I'm sorry for that, either.
>Theresa snatches the phone from my hand and immediately goes invisible.
"You know I can still tease you even if I can't see you," I say, rolling my eyes in exasperation at everything that's happened.
But although I -could- tease the hell out of Theresa right now, I'm really not in any mood for that. This place smells like and is covered in blood, there's a pile of severed limbs that I've been blocking from sight, and my nerves are completely shot from everything that's happened over the past halfhour or so.
So instead of bugging my invisible crossdressing friend, I make my way into the bedroom where Gabrielle was trapped up until a few minutes ago when Charlotte busted through the lock.
There, I find Gabrielle sobbing into her sister's chest. Now I feel even worse than I already had been.

"Oh-" I skid to a halt. "Is she gonna-" "Gabrielle's fine," Charlotte says to me as she runs her fingers through her sister's long, fluffy hair. "She doesn't -look- fine..." I mumble.
The way she's tightly hugging Charlotte right now isn't "lingering tears" crying, it's full-on "I still feel horrible" crying. I know the difference because I've been there myself WAY too many times to count.
"That's because the one crying is Ankerashariva," Charlotte sighs. "He blames himself for losing Faceless and letting Irene get maimed and he feels horrible about it."
Charlotte gently pats her little sister's head.
"Gabrielle wasn't able to console him so now that duty is left to me," she says.
>how do I respond?

>You did fine. If anything he won't be back to terrorize us.

Irene will be fine, and Faceless is gone. Yes something bad happened, and it's horrible, but in this case, it's not your fault. It's faceless's don't let his spite ruin you.

I approach the two sisters and rest a hand on Gabrielle's shoulder.
"You did as well back there as anyone could've been expected to, Shary," I say. "........" she sniffles. "...no I didn't. That jerk got away and your friend got hurt really bad because I wasn't fast enough." "That wasn't your fault," I reply. "There's no way that any of us could've expected that he'd go so far as to MUTILATE himself just to escape, you know? I mean, he completely lost it when I chopped off his finger last night and there he lost an entire leg..."
Dammit, I'm rambling.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's no point in beating yourself up over this," I sigh. "It's not helping you and it's not helping Gabrielle or Charlotte or anyone else either." "But I screwed up and-" "No you didn't." I cut her off. "I have first-hand experience with ruining everything, and you most definitely AREN'T a screwup. I'm the only one here who is."
I breathe a sign of relief when Gabrielle finally lets go of Charlotte... but then she immediately starts hugging and sobbing on me and Jesus Christ her tiny little arms are crushing me.

I would think it difficult to secretly get a squad of rubber-suit wearing cleaners who answer no questions to top floor, and get several body bags' worth of stuff back down to the unmarked van. And then fix all the broken stuff without notice as well.
Well, maybe the Gauthier girls are just throwing some wild parties.

My sides hurt and the front of my dress is soaked with tears (but not snot, thank God) and I myself am now kind of misty-eyed, but it looks like Shary's calmed down a lot so I'm not about to complain.
"Feeling a little bit better now?" I ask as she finally lets go of me. "A little bit," Gabrielle sniffles. "Shary says thanks for letting him cry all over you two." "So you've finally switched back," Charlotte sighs. "Yeah," she nods. "You and Cecile are better with feelings stuff than I am." "So you're alright, then?" I ask. "I'm pissed off," she mutters through gritted teeth, "but that's about it."

"So what's bothering you?" I ask. "That jerk..." Gabrielle clenches her fists. "...he snuck up on me."
I guess that would be kind of a big deal for someone like her who has 360-degree vision.
"That's all?" Charlotte sighs. "And here I thought you were upset sbout losing face in front of your crush." "What do you mean, 'that's all?'" Gabrielle throws her hands in the air. "He snuck up on ME! That's not even supposed to be able to happen EVER!" "It happens to the best of us," she replies. "Aaaagh you're just not gettin' it!" she groans.

"And to top it off," Gabrielle growls, "he snuck up on me AND he touched my boobs!" she points at her chest. "I can still feel his nasty hands..." she shudders.
That gets Charlotte's attention in an instant.
"...he did?" Charlotte asks, her eyes deadly serious. "Yeah he did," Gabrielle snaps back. "I know I don't have much there but he put his nasty hands on my boobs and the next thing I knew I was stuck in this room!" "Alright then," Charlotte growls. "once we get a hold of Irene then I promise you that I'll PERSONALLY-" "About that," I interject, "he's already dead." "What!?" "Huh?"
And now they're both staring at me in utter disbelief.

"Irene said they both suffocated wherever it was that he ended up after falling through the floor," I say. "So I guess we already got your revenge." "Oh," Gabrielle deflates. "Wow, I wasn't expecting him to..." "Are you absolutely sure?" Charlotte asks. "Because he could've faked it and then snuck away after Irene died..." "I dunno, she was pretty sure about it," I shrug. "And she said that he was the one who went first, too." "Haha..."
Charlotte's legs buckle underneath her and she falls onto the floor.
"So he's actually..." she laughs. "...so after all that, I can finally rest easy that he's not going to slip through the walls right now and..."
Milla walks over to her and licks her face.
"Yes, I know," she says, hugging her overgrown cat. "Loki's finally safe." "We still have to do something about all the blood and broken everything, though..." I say, feeling kind of bad about ruining the mood.
But someone had to mention it, dammit.

"I guess I -should- call my father and tell him about everything that's happened," Charlotte sighs.
With a grunt, she pushes herself back onto her feet.
"Gabrielle, did you want to talk to him first?" she asks while rooting around in her pocket for her phone. "No," Gabrielle shakes her head. "Hearing Daddy's voice is just gonna make Shary start crying again and I don't want Oscar thinking that -I'm- the crybaby." "Alright, then."
While Charlotte calls up Mr. Gauthier and Gabrielle goes to retrieve Shary's plush cat form from where she left it, I make my way back over to where Theresa vanished.
"I'd kind of like my phone back now," I call out. "Oh, sorry," Theresa replies, reappearing right next to me and stinging me with a nice awful Synapse headache in the process.

Theresa looks down at the tablet in her hand and lets out a long, tired sigh.
"I don't know what the hell happened," she says, "but I zoomed this thing out as far as it'll go and I still haven't been able to find any of the other beacons." "What?" I stare at the map. "Did the other ones break when Faceless fell through the floor?" "I dunno," she shrugs, "but this thing's supposed to have worldwide coverage and I -still- can't find anything aside from the ones that're right here."
And there's that feeling of unease welling back up in my stomach.

I make my way into the kitchen and place Loki on the table before finally focusing my attentions on my phone. While there's probably a bunch of people who I could call right now, my most pressing concern at the moment is telling my father that he doesn't have to freak out any more.
And that's why his number is the one I hit on my speed dial.
And of course he picks up on the first ring.
"Cecile?" he calls out. "What's wrong, did something happen?"

I spend a few more minutes reassuring my father that I am in fact not freaking about about Faceless being dead and that I don't need a ride home and all that stuff before finally saying our goodbyes and hanging up.
