I think you're thinking of Tough Justice and Courtesans. Neither of which I wrote, I published them for Ian Warner.

There's plenty of other stuff I've done. Look a bit deeper. I do tend to like horror and controversial subjects though, because I find them interesting. If that makes one an edgelord, so be it, but my motivation is mostly personal interest.

That was nearly 20 years ago mate, and it sold very well, won an award and spawned the whole Munchkin phenomenon. I'd do it differently if I did it now, certainly.

Not seen Mecha so can't really compare. It's actually based on a game I wrote when I was about 14 or 15 after seeing Robot Jox. I found it in an old notepad, redid it and put it out.

Yeah, the aim was more to replicate the play style of Paranoia and some other stuff but Zim comparisons were inevitable.

I always look for interest and reactions and found the other thread in a search and thought - amongst the usual - there was some interesting stuff to talk about.

Graduated to MERP, Dragon Warriors and other games (but not D&D for some years).
Always made my own stuff.
Self published some fanzines and fan modules and things in the 80s and 90s.
Spammed companies with ideas in mid/late 90s.
Got opportunity from SJG.
Wrote Munchkin's Guide.
Freelancing work came in.
Lost 'proper' job when the .com bubble burst and decided to go full time, just as home e-publishing really took off.

Freelanced for a lot of companies and people, but generally prefer (by a wide margin) working for myself. I don't like compromising).

I've never seen Mecha, but I'm curious now :) It's a double-edged sword in game design. You want to see what other people are doing but don't want to be influenced!

Don't get me wrong, I find Ian's games interesting but my approach to the subject matter is a bit different. My 'whores' game is Ace of Hearts (western setting) and it's much more of a story game.

Evil Hat frustrate me. They've used their sway to get at least one game of mine banned from sale at OBS and they're a big nexus of 'SJW' bullshit in gaming.

I have objected - since Spirit of the Century - to their tendency to whitewash history and to ignore the past. It's an approach to historical material (and fiction) 180 degrees from mine and I think it's disrespectful to the period, the source material and the people who lived through it.

It's a shame, I like FATE and my politics (in terms of aim) is probably close to theirs, I'm just not willing to do evil in order to do good or to compromise my skepticism.

I don't really find much wrong with Spirit of the Century, the entire point is for the PCs to be a cut above the rest and at least partially ignore mores of the time, but everything else I mostly agree with. Fred Hicks is a top-tier jackass.

Depends on the job... is the lazy answer. Mostly I tend to be an 'ideas guy', trying to do things in a different and interesting way. Sometimes you can't but that's what I prefer to do. Something I just wrote for someone is a typical prison-break scenario but I've tried to mix it up a bit with some other ideas and setting to keep it fresh. A BIG problem in game design is that everything has been done and that the audience often likes the familiar.

Maybe I'm not up to date on the lingo, but I haven't really heard anyone use "Infirmity" to describe disabilities. Is this a new thing that I should know about?

Anyway, so what I can tell is that the book was basically saying that you feel the current tendency for Veeky Forums related media whitewash prejudice and bigotry (or to just say "things were bad in the old days, we don't want to emulate that") does a disservice to history and the struggles that people went through? And you were trying to provide an alternative to that?

He kept asking for feedback and involvement, kept rejecting all feedback he got, discrediting all those who had criticism as shitposters...

He was in fact quite impressive as a shitposter, keeping the constant appearance of being good-willed and then shitting all over everyone. There was no stopping him.
He even frequently got people banned for calling him out, because of 'not relevant to the board'. So I'm fearing for my shit here.

That's probably why nobody ever talks about him, but everyone involved in civ-games knew him.

Wanna play a game of regular D&D 5e with some Veeky Forums dudes?

Bit of dungeon crawling optimisation dice rolling, bit of roleplaying worldbuilding character interaction. Game will have memes, but avoids sexuality.

The idea of including mechanics wasn't for actual practical use but to use a 'common roleplaying language' to help illustrate the points. Some people find it easier to understand things via mechanics.

That makes it worse really.
