Cleric

Barbarian or Paladin. Because they are, when done right, tanky and deal out good damage.
Avoid fighter unless you have a pre-planned gimmick. Its just not worth it.

Alchemist can also be a melee build if you go down the mutigen heavy route, full on jeckle and hyde. Stacks well with barbarian. Have to know what your doing though.

Ranger is crap as a front melee. Druid can act like a melee front with familiar, but still a caster at the end of it. Cleric you need to know wtf your doing. Ninja/rouge can work, but they fall off fast later on, and youde need to make liberal use of poisons.

Monk is best avoided unless you roll excellent stats or choose one of the better archtypes.

Summoners eldion works well for the same slot.

Don't know much about things like spellblade.

Sounds like you don't have much PF experience, so I'd stay away from prep'd divine casters, and probably things with familiars/companions/summons.
I'd go barbarian since you can take power attack at level one and rage gives a nice boost to your stats, but I also have a raging hard on for barbarians. Slayer would be another solid option.
Vivisectionist (alchemist archetype) and Magus are also good if you're willing to learn to juggle spells/extracts on top of everything else. Maneuver master monk with trip stuff and combat reflexes can be pretty brutal too.

Do you want to just dish out DPS? What other role do you want in your party? Being the dumb big stronk guy who never gets to do stuff outside of combat gets old fast.

>melee class
>good

>low level
yeah, mage armor + magic missile + grease is SO strong.

>Free armor that's just as good if not better than what everyone else has
>An attack that you don't need to roll for to see if it hits
>A practically guaranteed disarm or a way to get a whole host of enemies flat-footed at once

Oh my sweet summer child, that's not even the worst of the lot.

you're wrong, but even if you weren't that doesn't make martial classes any better
also: Grease+a torch=barbecue

meanwhile lunkhead barbarian is raging and power attacking for 2d6+(9-12). without worrying about resources.

Grease doesn't burn.

>Grease doesn't burn.

This. "Grease" is more like KY jelly than actual bacon grease.

I'm gonna have to say barbarian or paladin. Both classes have a very "pick up and play" mentality and their mechanics are very straightforward to understand.

Fighters can be good, but you need to go in with a good idea of what feats you want to use and how you're going to take them. Feats are basically what gives Fighters their edge. Barbarians and Paladins can make effective use from them, but their real strength comes from Rage and Smite Evil, respectively.

Rogues have their sneak attack feature, which is appealing. But as says they drop off hard after a while and their real role is skill monkey.

Rangers are bad. Don't play a ranger.

Clerics are good martials, but require a lot of spell management to play effectively. If you're inexperienced with Vancian systems, you're going to have a hard time keeping up.
