The Official MTG Snowstorm Thread

Welcome to the flake thread!

Previously:
The flake ball, and everyone is pretty. An interesting theory on why the Eldrazi are needed. A new flake or two. Color pie arguments. Again, I want my fucking flake ball party. Multiverse discussion. A new snowplane. Gideon was conquered by a puddle.

Previous thread: Writefagging last time:

Beep is introduced: REMINDER:

If you want ANYTHING to go in the repo, just summon me. Otherwise I will only put writefagging and sheets in the repo.

Also, I added the blank template to the ALL FLAKESHEETS folder.

To summon me simply say
>OP OP, I SUMMON THEE. PLACE THIS FILE IN THE REPOSITORY.
And I will come.
>Current Repository

Belloski organizes the ball so the flakes will drink and party and miss the Belloski luxury hotel check out time of 6am.

This is your threadly reminder not to reply to trolls.

That includes this post.

TO ALL

THE REPO HAS BEEN UPDATED

MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN ITS PROPER PLACE

my flake isn't in the right place, op
you have it with the other flakes when it should be in the trash

...

Hey. Since I keep putting this off, you guys wanna make my life a million times easier and reply with a pic and 30-40 word description of your blank flakes on this sheet? Thanks a ton.

The sheet is divided into parts because the files are too large, btw.

Part 2

Last part

Goodness gracious, we're on multi-sheets now?

Winifred, from Unknown
Human Wizard

Shunned by her peers, she learned witchcraft in order to get back at them, only to have her spark ignite when later burned at the stake. Now she wanders, living on her whims and occasionally stealing the youth of others.

Just give up, you've got the repository, don't waste your time on that shit. It's redundant.

The problem is that the flakes that aren't on the sheet posted at the top of the thread tend to be forgotten or ignored. It'd be easy to say "just look at the repository," but this creates a quick reference that also fights against the fact that a lot of people are lazy.

Then stop using the sheet entirely. Come up with an alternative thing instead, even if it's literally just a picture of a snowflake. The snowstorm's redundant.

>Mirabelle, from parts unknown
>A mysterious lady of manners, she claims she learned rule magic at finishing school and now travels teaching etiquette and selling dresses in her war against rudeness and ugly clothes. Collects cute things for her bottled demiplane on the side.

She should probably have the unglued symbol, if that's not gonna fuck formatting up. I made her as a joke flake when things were getting a little rude around here.

Daily reminder to pour one out for the first snow user who we drove away. May their free time be filled with hard drinks and softcore porn

>The snowstorm itself is redundant

Uhhh..?

What would you suggest?

>Redundant

Time to make a new joke flake sheet.

please and thank you

I'll get on it when I get up, for now I need more sleep. Many apologies but Overwatch has been destroying my free time lately, I got it on Thursday and I believe I'm up to 20 hours on Mercy. Healslutting ain't easy but I'll try and stop being so lazy soon, maybe, healing is pretty fun though....

The first one was pretty great.

Fuck, I hardly recognize most of the new flakes.

Exactly. Because they appeared in threads, then mostly vanished into the repository never to be heard from again. This is that point I was making earlier about how people don't check.

and I may have willed myself to forget them.

I mean... As far as flakes go, not all of them were too bad.

The Cathar, From Innistrad
Human Soldier

Spending the year since his ignition going through one hell after another, The Cathar has returned home only to find a continuation of his nightmare existence.
Starke, from Mercadia
Human Knight
A former criminal, she ignited when she found her friend assassinated as a result of her actions. She has taken a vow to hunt corruption and injustice across the multiverse.

Going through them, I have updated the classes of at least two of them since they used a title instead of a job.

I'm not des-chan. Both of those posts were my own. --_--;

>using emoticons

Thank goodness Beep isnt there. Messenger is already dirtying up the sheet. Fuck that user.

Once human but elevated to angelhood for an act she no longer remembers, Serena's latent spark finally ignited due to the pain of Avacyn's death. She wants nothing more than to see her goddess restored or at least have her memory respected..

what is this, an angel for ants?

idk man, I was on my phone.

>A new snowplane

I'll just repost that for further criticism, see if anyone can point out any flaws that others didn't mention.

Is an elf an elf no matter what plane they visit?
Right like how Nissa ended up on Llorwyn/Shadowmoor and was recognized as an elf, even though the native elves look more like fawns or satyrs.

Isn't blue the color of change?

>TARGET AQUIRED

> Sephren
This Druid lives a carefree life with no responsibilities or worries. And being able to summon a single avatar of the amalgamation of all mana of a plane that he calls Cromat, only to go on adventurous journeys with and experience everything that each new planes has to offer him.
> Lord Æon
A living, breathing time paradox himself, this temporal mage has dedicated himself to the eradication of all other temporal mages to stop alterations to the timeline any further.
> Íreth
Once a self-centered and spoiled princess, this Elf's life was forever changed when her personality was manipulated by a mind mage. Now travels the multiverse for new experiences and to explore the different planes out there.
> Miyja
After her spark ignited from a dire encounter with a giant wurm, this barbarian berserker lives only to take on new challenges and stare danger in the eye unyieldingly. She now travels from plane to plane looking for any enemy that could pose a threat to her and claim victory over it.
> Zulkaz
Being the experiment of the Simic Combine, Zulkaz was genetically altered to be capable of producing any type of mana from his body. And once his spark ignited from his final experiment test upon him, he was now able to live in freedom and start a new life to make a name for himself across the multiverse.

All colors are the colors of change, even green which promotes 'change as it is meant to occur,' such as evolution.

Black is specifically the color of ambition, self-determinism and self-interest and this is a world without black. In a world where people have no desire for personal gain and where everyone is willing to settle for just surviving rather than thriving, advancement is unlikely to take place.

That was my logic at least.

Yeah, maybe I should stop using them since she does use them a lot as well. Oh well.

Yes. Lorwyn elves are really just elves with horns and hooves. So, they would still see her as an elf, just more likely a deformed one.

Nissa was actually viewed as beautiful, if odd. At the very least, Dwynen had a great interest in mashing their girly bits together.

Who is the horned chick on the bottom row and the sentient cage?

>nuke it from orbit.

Deformities doesn't have to be ugly. Think of a human was born with elf ears. A lot of people would find that very attractive.

...

Here's the other.

He seems rude, angels are for hugs not kindling.

Oh wow I wasn't far off when I called them a sentient cage; I just thought it'd be war-magic or something.

I'm happy that it got such a strong reaction. I knew the whole 'beastmen eating each other and wallowing in their own shit' shtick would turn some people off.

Boros are self centered tyrants, the worst of the worst, angels included.

Didn't you want to hug a girly flake that kills Angels and takes their wings?

I know, but Innistrad angels are nice, it's not their fault some bitch had a argument with a dumb vampire a thousand years ago. I mean if he's just protecting people from them and killing them in the process that's sad but fine but if he's seeking out angels to kill in addition to that he's just killing benevolent beings for no reason.

I don't recall her ever killing any angels but she seemed sad and angry so I thought maybe hugs would cheer her up and help her not be a psychopath. In any case I wasn't being serious.

For what it's worth Serena would try to hug Sudev if she thought it might change his mind, might get a bit burned in the process though.

>for no reason
Actually, he's killing them specifically to further his own lifespan.

Does that really make it better? From what I read he can do that to anything so he could kill demons, devils, cultists, Arlinn Kord or anything else for the same result.

Yes, but angels made him with a short life span and with the expectation that he would be okay with it.

Considering he was specifically created by angels according to the lore he's going with, it could be that burning angels sort of 'reverse ages' him, so he doesn't need to resort to consuming other creatures instead.

Would you rather prolong your life but become more and more decrepit and foul with every day, or would you rather roll your age back by a few years instead?

That doesn't make it right though, I'm not say I don't understand his motivations, just that they make him a dick.

He might be acting out of self-interest but at least it isn't mindless 4noraisin madness.

He also couldn't have a spark since I don't think fire elementalsare born on Ravnica

That's right. I'm not the guy's creator though so I can't argue about that.

Well, he didn't have to be born with one. He could have had it given to him. But, who knows, I'm not the flake's creator.

Well, even though I'm not sure about any flame-kin on Ravnica, but flame-kin are stated to be amongst the few elementals that meet the criteria for a spark. Though, since this guy was created and not born, the point may be moot anyway.

> everyone is willing to settle for just surviving rather than thriving

Bant had neither black nor red mana, yet it wasn't anything like that. Just because a person is less selfish doesn't mean they're going to just forget about improving anything. They're just going to focus more on the wider society (white) or advancement for the sake of intellectual curiosity (blue) than themselves.

Or if you look at Ravnica, both the Simic and the Izzet are all about improving things, but neither of them have black as one of their colors.

Ambition and ego still exist in all of those worlds and organizations. Bant still had bandits and self-interested merchants and other sorts of things and the guildleaders of Ravnica during the original block, in both of those guilds, were thoroughly egotistical and overly ambitious.

This is a world that specifically has creatures dedicated to hunting down creatures possessing black's personality traits. It's designed from the ground up to not only lack black mana but to keep any black traits from flourishing at all.

Cities have been developed, there is technology and there has been some advancement but it is all very slow and stagnant, refusing to push past a certain point. The plane's emphasis is on green and white, while blue and red are weakened due to the lack of black. Without ambition, the desire to excel for perfection's sake isn't as strong. Without self-determinism, the importance of freedom and independence is lesser.

Bant might have lacked black mana but there's more than one way of representing a world without black mana.

>Blue and red are weakened due to the lack of black
That's not how allied colors work. Each color can still behave independently regardless of whether other colors that happen to have overlap are present. The fact that the more dominant colors of the location are Green and White has a stronger amount of influence over whether or not Blue is working its inherent desire for progress (for the sake of knowledge and progress, rather than anything selfish) than the fact that Black is being suppressed. Additionally, since you have a plane with White as the other dominant color, Blue still has an ally color in White, which it shares with the Green power lead and giving it its own place. So we have Blue acting as knowledge for the sake of knowledge and Blue that is likely to act with White to have steady progress and a concern for order; it's all still there, it's just not selfish, amoral, nor secretive in nature.

But there won't be much emphasis on the traits that blue and red share with black, if there's any emphasis on them at all. Blue and red will be focusing on the traits that they share with white and green respectively.

Hm is it true that Blue/Green would be terrible colors for an artificer?

Not TERRIBLE but green doesn't like artifacts at all so it would be a little strange.

Any combination with green would be a bad color for an artificer.

The artifact colors are something like U > W = R > B > G.

Well I am thinking of having them dip into Red or White, but primarily they are a Blue/Green earth scientist... A lot of the artifacts they would collect and use would be more "natural".
Like Mana Prism or Black Lotus.

When you slash Black from the color pie, you lose the following things:
>Parasitism
Selfishness at the expense of others.
>Amorality
Selfishness above all else.

With the sub-themes being
>Selfishness
>Omnipotence
>Paranoia

Without Black, plenty is still going on. You can still be yourself like Red wants you to; there can still be Impulse and Chaos. You can still make progress and seek knowledge like Blue wants you to; there can still be Logic and Technology. Those things aren't staggered at all. They just can no longer be afforded towards taking and destroying for selfish reasons.

Green/White as a dominant color focus of the location means that a lot of people care about some form of community. However, there is still plenty of space for the other colors to behave in their natural, mono-colored fashions, as they do on pretty much any other plane. You haven't weakened them, you've only changed the viable team-ups and the resulting implications by eliminating how they interact with Black.

It could, but people would expect that to be covered in the bio

As Des-user has proven, the bio is for more interesting information, not for boring stuff like how a character got its spark.

Well then I am curious; what colors do you think would make for a good artificer, going around studying rocks, testing out the weird magics they do and so on?

>rock
Red is the color of earth, stone, rock and general geomancy.

I wish this meme would die

>What is a Lithomancer
Have you seen Nahiri? Before she went crazy, that is.
In her case, the colors aren't relevant, because she's related to stone as a result of her peoples' tradition of stoneforging.

Red is the color best associated with physical rock and earth, being the color that has earth-based elementals and hurls rocks and cracks the ground as spells. Red is a color that strongly likes to destroy artifacts because they are a form of order and logic against its own impulses and chaos; however Red has an interesting take on artifacts by taking artifacts and building new things as a form of self-expression from scrapped artifacts.

Not funny.

But why write about boring things when you can write about fun things?

Hm... Guess I am being horribly unoriginal.
Back to the drawing board.

Which colors would your snowflake be on this color pie?

>Sonia: Mono-Pink
>Zenri: Purple/Orange
>Dyna: Yellow/Orange
>Astera: Purple/Pink

Pink, obviously.

Is that supposed to be a flip of the actual color pie? I feel like whatever's happening here, it wasn't thought all the way through.

Would White also be an Earth-magic type color?
Aside from the kor on Zendikar, white has sand magic as well. At least it does on Tarkir.

White's connection with sand is weird and appears sparingly. It honestly doesn't make a lot of sense.

White's earth magic seems to depend on the plane rather than being a strict thing. Red's got earthquakes, tremors, rumbling elementals and other such things on almost every plane.

Well the most important thing is that it adds a little bit of diversity. Without it White mages are stuck to what.... blinding light type attacks?

That and a big part of White philosophy is strength through unity. Sand is small but can be pretty strong when added together.

Yeah, White has the thing on divine power/smiting/light for offensive stuff. But then again, White isn't particularly an offensive color, and is good at healing and protection instead.

This actually raises an interesting question; which color has the most diversity when it comes to things like wizards, clerics and other spellslingers?

I think White and Black can do the most things, with the weakness that White can't dig for answers very well and likes rule magic that lets its answers have answers, while black needs to kill itself to do a number of things and gets stumped by artifacts and enchantments.

Is that why no one writes about Salem?

>Part 2
Torbern, from Dominaria
Werebear Druid

A wanderer who's spark ignited during a confrontation with an ice kraken over hunting territory. Now he seeks to unravel the mysteries of Aether and how it connects to nature.

Thanks for all of the updates, guys. I'll get to them after the gym.

Second Row, Fourth in, who is this R/G Elf?

One of Des/Vronak's conveyor-belt snowflakes.

HM....
It is hard to say if I like or dislike this flake.

I know I most certainly dislike it, but that's just me.

Going to do the flake ball and was thinking of dedicating one or two paragraphs to each snowflake as they interact with others.
What pairings would yall like to see?
