Not playing your Paladin as a ball of pent-up aggression kept in line through his vows and ideals

>not playing your Paladin as a ball of pent-up aggression kept in line through his vows and ideals

What's your excuse, sappy faggots?

That's not Justice

>having to play your paladin as a pathetic Shaggy-esque "I'm not so sure about this guys..." wimp who gets dragged around by the CN party because you're just sick and tired of inter-party conflict

Kill me.

>Kept in line through his vows and ideals
>Kept in line

If your vows aren't an active outlet that further enhance your aggression, you're a shit Paladin.

If you need those vows to keep you in line, you're not a paladin, you're a wild animal on a leash.

That doesn't sound like a fun character

Let me tell you about something, son...

You know how criminals get away scott free because they went down on the judge that one time when they were playing doctor? That's what passes for "justice" among the ungrateful, retarded peasantry who have no God nor mettle. We knights of heavens have to play by their rules, every day, even when it's so blatantly obvious that a shit-spirited cretin scumbag's slipping through the cracks of the wall we have built up with so much effort, for so little earthly consideration. Oh sure, when there's an outbreak of undeath, everyone's glad to have us at their side... And then it's done. And then we're back to square one. And we see it.. the vicious circle of human, elven, dwarven folly, their self-interests clashing and colliding with lethal repercussions. And they let matters fester, because they've built up exploitable, man-made rules for the evil ones to abuse. And we must follow these rules, to the letter, or else we will become that which we can never be: those who erode the law of the land.

Do you realize how much prayer, fasting and other acts of worship can aid to repress the urge to let it all go? To slit the throat of a prisoner in its cell, when you know he is guilty, when you know he will leave and repeat his crimes, because someone or some people in the judge and jury loudly declared he's a good boy, he dindu nuffin? Is the death of good citizenry at the hands of those who exploit the law deserving of anything less than a fury rivalling the core of the earth in its heat? No. It is not. Yet we may never allow this fury to overspill. For the Gods have chosen us, because we can endure it.

But it is tiresome. It is testing. It festers and lingers, and begs for a release. And thus we quest...

What a sorry excuse for a Paladin.

A true holy warrior is a paragon of justice, righteousness and valor, a divine champion and a beacon of light, inside and outside.

Excuse my brother for a moment, he has a stick of his arse and it chafes terribly.

*up his

Why bother being pent-up? God justifies your actions. You have a good thing, and you're heaven-bound. When you're up against someone that's truly evil, go into battle joyously, like a man about to meet his bride. If you kill the shit out of him, his soul goes screaming down to hell: If you die, you are heavenbound.

A Paladin is probably the chillest guy of the group, because he wins either way.

A paladin should be Freddy. Make those CN losers split up and search for clues so you can get smiting.

Because I'm playing her as a rich noble girl in a city run by Infernal Cultists who had a goddamn peacock start pecking at her window late one night before bursting in and dropping a letter at her feet which said basically "Hey, you're my chosen Paladin now, go clear out these devil worshippers, then we'll talk more."

>The Punisher paladin gimmick again
So original.

Fuck off.

>Punisher
>paladin

Retard

>playing paladin

My class let's me do what I want

>There's only one way to play a class

A class is literally nothing more than a collection of game mechanics. Do whatever the fuck you want. People should've stopped caring this much about paladins fucking 20 years ago.

...

FUCKING THIS
CLEAVE AND SMITE
SMITE AND CLEAVE
FUCK YOU HERETIC
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Not a good example of anything really, a paladin that killed in the past would have been affected by the stare, and regret doesn't even come into the equation when the writer isn't frankjerking

This guy gets it

...

Not everyone wants to play a CRAAAAAAAAAAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIIN edgelord all the time

Any advice for a beginner to D&D? I am rolling with a Paladin and am really liking the idea of

>If your vows aren't an active outlet that further enhance your aggression, you're a shit Paladin.

I am less concerned about the game mechanics cause all of us in this group are new but roleplaying correctly.

Any advice without becoming too hammy?

...

''I want to fuck shit up but society won't let me''/10

>Not playing your paladin like Doomguy

RIP AND TEAR

>erode the law of the land

Niagara you put a traditional LG paladin in a LE country and he is going to join the rebel cause faster than any CG Robin hood type would.

The laws he cares about are his own, and he will ignore or work to change the "laws of the land" if they conflict.

>Any advice without becoming too hammy?
It's far too late. Just embrace it if that's what you're going for.

>embrace the ham

I don't want to disrupt other people in my household but I'll do my best. FOR HAM AND JUSTICE!

Are you serious, evildoer? That's the epitome of JUSTICE.

>A paladin's touch does not alone forgive, that is up to the recipient.
>The guilty touched are sent into a figment of their own imagination, where just after touching them they believe are let out or have escaped
>In the span of seconds they will have lived multiple lifetimes of watching the consequences of their metaphorical actions as they play out this fake reality
>They won't remember it afterwards but when the criminal descends into a religiously gibbering mess swearing to never wrong anyone again, the people will believe them
>because those touched by a paladin will recoil at the hint of violence and cry at the thought of wrongdoing. truly their god must be a benevolent one.

That'll work. As long as his actions don't break their vows, no problem.

Kantian morality is stupid as fuck.

>Kantian morality is stupid as fuck.

ill rek u m8

Bring it bitch.

that image singlehandedly stopped me from getting into punisher some time ago

you don't just handwave another character's best trait with "no it doesn't work" man, that shit's garbage. writer equivalent of "your natural 20 attack bounces off his neck"

>Not verbally abusing the Senior Clerics and Heirarchs of the Order
>Not rough handing the Squires and supplicants
>Not having disdain for most forms of ettiquette and manners
>Not using a club of oak to beat the evilness from people

Do you even Royal Order Of Right Bastardly Conduct? Known correctly as the Order of Iron Justice.

Justice best girl, too pure for this rotten world.

That's not justice, that's Lawful, and if you forsake Good for Law, you're a shit Paladin.

I play a young, hot-blooded chivalrous paladin named Juan. He's not polite, and mostly comes off as a major dick, but he always has everyone's back and keeps the party together.

If you forsake Law for Good you're also a shit paladin.

Pixie slut, AWSM, and his hair are probably my favorite parts, not gonna lie.

Good is more important than Law.

> playing a paladin with restrictions

"They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you. You will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done."

>I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of God. Holiness is in right action and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves.

See, this guy is the best way to play a paladin.

Yes

>Not playing your paladin as the dad your assorted chaotic fuckup teammates never had and whipping a self-interested group of misfits into heroes of destiny

We've already got the chaotic types for barely pent-up aggression.

My world is one of absolutes. There is Right, and there is Wrong. The Wicked shall be struck down and the Innocent protected. My laws were laid down by a higher power and they WILL be obeyed. Placing the petty laws of Man before those of my God is the surest path to damnation.

>Morgan Kel, paladin.

It's funny how so many fags on Veeky Forums complain about all Evil and Chaotic alignments being disruptive, yet at the same time same we have threads like these.
If one of my players tried to pull shit like that, they would know full extent of consequences of being a psychotic fuck.

>What's your excuse, sappy faggots?
My excuse is that's a shit concept.

>play CN dickbag fighter.
>shout vaguely religious diatribe as I fuel my murder boner with smiteful righteousness.
>pray at every temple, church, abbey etc. for the strength to smite the wicked on behalf of my god. Despite the fact my god is too much of a pussy to imbue me with divine power.

I have my next character guys, thanks.

>Not playing a paladin who lives, loves, and dances and who is sworn to protect and provide happiness and light in the world, who legitimately enjoys their role, hard as it may be
Step it up, fampai.

>not playing a paladin like Kormac from Diablo 3
>fearless
>smite evil
>follow the nephalem to the gates of hell and burn them down
>get really awkward around the enchantress
>eyrena chan doesn't notice you
>finally ask her out
>get friendzoned
>oh...ok...
>take it out on demons

A Paladin that was no good at being a Paladin and instead found he was much better at applying violence to dickheads while shouting religion songs.

I like this too.

>"I will drag you into the glory of my god. Whether he likes it or not."

I'm DM

>not playing your Paladin as a ball of pent-up aggression kept in line through his vows and ideals
Op, this implies that I have to do good even if I want to do evil.

I don't have to be good. I get to be good. If you don't enjoy doing good, I dunno. That sounds like a shit paladin.

>Playing Paladins like sociopath murders with religion as excuse.
>Giving Paladins bad names.
You are the worse.

Fucking love that movie.

Sorry Kormac, eirena doesn't swing that way.
>Jackassing through Act II with a femWiz and Eirena.
>Eirena mentions Leah's growing power
>FemWiz responds with something like "You're not planning to steal her away from me, are you?"
>Eirena(all coy and shit): "Maybe."

No no, user, you might be onto something here.

What practical applications would a stick of arse have?

>le ebin DEUS VULT PUT ALL SINNERS TO THE SWORD paladins
I'm honestly getting fucking sick of this. I don't mind the character concept itself too much but fucking hell, almost every time anyone wants to play a paladin you just know they're going to be a fucking "smite makes right XDD" edgelord.

Paladins are meant to be good guys. It wouldn't fucking kill you to play one as a genuinely friendly, empathetic human being, rather than 'a space marine but medieval.'

The ironic thing is the same people who play these sorts of paladins are the same people who'll call out fedoratippers/euphoric fellows/whatever - they'll tell people off for portraying religion in games as extremist, intolerant and ignorant, and then play an extremist, intolerant and ignorant character.

Defensive measure? Set up a perimeter of Arse sticks, no one would try to bother you, I would think.

That's literally my Paladin's code.

>The ironic thing is the same people who play these sorts of paladins are the same people who'll call out fedoratippers/euphoric fellows/whatever - they'll tell people off for portraying religion in games as extremist, intolerant and ignorant, and then play an extremist, intolerant and ignorant character.

Because they view those traits in religion as being charming when the exception, but tiresome as the norm. That said, you're right. Compassionate but dutiful is best paladin.

I've been playing Warlock lately.
You think the Archdemon I made a deal with gives a shit if I act out of line?

I'm a ForeverDM

What's your excuse for not having an original character concept, especially one that was done sloppily?

Pic sure as fuck related.

I don't see why you can't do both. Friendly, dutiful paladin who puts sinners to the sword when they fuck up hard enough. Steal a loaf of bread? Repent and make amends. Guy might even cover your debt for you and help you get your life on track. Kill an orphan in the name of an evil god? Now the murder happens.

I don't like having anger issues

>a lawful good paladin will forsake the laws of the land if he sees them as evil
>a lawful good paladin only holds obedience to his faith, and the only codes and morals he is guided by are the ones of his faith; he has no obligation to respect the morality and culture of the land if he sees it as evil
>a lawful good paladin is only obliged to give lenience and mercy to those of his faith/alignment, and has no duty to protect the lives of those he sees as evil

Sounds zealous at best, and hypocritical at worst.

This is not a thread for people like you.

At the end of the day, a paladin has to call his own shots, the view that both his god and he shares will make that call.

Being a hero ain't easy.

I just like being nice to people cause I'm not a murder hobo.

>lawful alignment = always following the law of the land

Love this meme.

This guy gets it.

Because they're mutually exclusive to one another.

A friendly and dutiful paladin would want to avoid conflict and unnecessary death as much as possible and try to steer even the most hopeless cases into renouncing their evil ways, not for the sake of gaining allies, but because they truly wish to save their immortal soul from suffering eternity within the 9 hells.

A DEUS VULT paladin on the other hand doesn't care about anyone or anything that they view as evil. They view evildoers with the same level of disgust as a doctor looking at a tumor, an unnatural growth that sickens the body and corrupts the purity of the soul. They see no need in taking prisoners or reforming criminals because they view every evil soul slained as a net worth for the side of good.

The two are non-compatible with one another.

A friendly paladin would view DEUS VULT as pious and intolerant.

A DEUS VULT would view a friendly paladin as weak and too forgiving.

It's beautiful.

One day amigo. One day.

There is nothing wrong with being white. There is nothing wrong with wanting a traditional family and being a hard working, strong man.

But fuck Nazism. That symbol on the American flag makes me ill.

Because I like making good characters.

Your pali is a meguka?

...

I mostly play paladins as fascists, basically. Punisher or Rorschach is a good start point. It's nice because a lot of black humor naturally arises so you don't have to be a stick in the mud.

Mine are often redeemed criminals with all the same instincts, naive do-gooders with a sensible streak, or just a frustrated normal man with a family and moral compass (Falling Down with a family and a few rules).

It's hard to call Doomguy a LG paladin. At best good, but probably only because he fights and kills demons whole sale. Plus it's hard to say he has a code to follow besides "Is it evil? Kill it." He's been shown to do whatever is necessary to stop demonic invasions regardless of consequences. Unless it's the original DOOM 1/2 Doomguy in which he is explicitly said to have saved mankind from the demons when they attacked Earth.

What Punisher comic is this from?

My go-to Paladin concept these days tend to be good natured farm boys. Idealistic, down to earth, book dumb and follow gods of agriculture or harvest. But while kind to their communities, travelers and any who seek shelter, they're quick to fight the wolves that threaten their flocks.

My GM described him once as an all American small town football hero who grew up and became a paladin.

Read the Dresden Files, specifically Grave Peril, Death Masks, Proven Guilty, Small Favor, and Skin Game. Michael is how to Paladin.

I don't play Paladins.

Because my Paladin dreams the impossible dream, faggot.

Just remember this.

"Let my commandments be simple, as is befitting a God. Good is that which evil fears. Justice is when you make those fears a reality."

But that's how I play a barbarian...

This is how i paladin.

That's it, from now on all my paladins are Judge Dredd.

Don't forget that "Everything that comes from hell is bad business, AND WHY ARE YOU MAKING A BUSINESS OUT OF IT" moment when he shuts down that Free Hell Energy scam.

As they should be

And remember kids, your Paladin is not stopped by if his actions are deemed evil, but rather if -he- deems it evil.

>not seeing the wellbeing of humanity as highest virtue
>not tending to the sick and wounded whenever you can
>not eradicating everything and everyone who defiles the purity of humanity
>not sacrificing everything

Wht r u guys, casuls?

ONE OF THEM IS A VETERAN LOOSE CANNON.
THE OTHER IS A NEWLY ASSIGNED BY-THE-BOOK ROOKIE.

TOGETHER, THEY FIGHT CRIME.

>Skim thread
>Premise character is not a paladin
>Most of the responses do not describe paladins
>Most of these responses describe a warlock or cleric

A paladin doesn't have divine power because a higher power has given it to him. It's his own power. A paladin gets his powers within from holding to his convictions. This is why in earlier D&D editions paladins weren't allowed to lie and were restricted to the Lawful Good alignment.
Losing faith in his god does not mean the god has taken away the paladin's power. It does, however, mean that the paladin's convictions have wavered and his belief in himself isn't absolute any more either. Without belief in himself, a paladin cannot access his divine power. In earlier editions of D&D this was called "falling" since a paladin is supposedly the peak of physical and spiritual health at all times and anyone who isn't these things is not a paladin.

This is how I paladin.

The Oath of Ancients in 5E makes for some really fun flavorful paladins, focussing more on the 'Good' part in the 'Lawful Good' alignment.
