I can't even decide which faction I'm the most hype for anymore. They've all got great visual style.

Guess I'll have to wait and see how they operate on the table.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Scourge's organic art deco style, so that at least one less to consider.

Shaltari and Scourge have too many random spikey bits. I'll take the UCM's greebles over that.

I'll probably give Scourge a go because I enjoy hit-and-run playstyles even if I'm not great at using it wisely.

Remind me what defines art deco. I can see it on them, but I don't recognize what the key aspects are.

I guess art deco isn't entirely correct here, more like streamline moderne. Or at least that's the kind of vibe I get from the Scourge ships', especially from the bows and the curvature of notTentacles.

PHR seems much more hit-and-run to me, they scream jousting runs and out maneuvering the target.

Nah, Scourge are the fast ones. PHR is gonna be slow, lumbering broadsidey dudes.

I suppose that makes sense with being the tankiest faction, I saw broadsides and expected them to be orbiting the enemy as much as they can and firing broadside after broadside into their targets, being perpetually out of the enemy firing arcs.

youtu.be/jfQTO7XKAX0?t=3m as a crude illustration

Shaltari are the jousting hit and run faction, they have limited weapon arcs with powerful weapons

When is the game set to release?
I just want to know when so I'm not watching my mailbox 24/7.

This month, supposedly

kickstarter is set to ship last week of june first week of july abouts if all goes as planned, which it so far has been indicated to be doing. I would not expect to see the game go retail till maybe the end of the summer, august maybe september, possibly early august.

Is that the Vesuvius heavy carrier from Wing commander IV ?

It's a UCM strike carrier, same as this picture, except in 10mm scale. If you look closely at the OP pic, you can see the 10mm scale dropships straight from DzC.

Here's another shot of the 10mm scale carrier. They bring it around to shows and stuff.

small amount of similiarity but no not really

oh are we going to try and make generals a regular thing? awesome, count me as excited.

maybe /dcg/ can help me out. I wanted to buy up enough models to properly show off the idea behind all four factions, but I wasn't sure if I should try and pick up the alternate styles of each faction as well (running katanas instead of sabers, skimmer PHR, walker Scourge, walker Shaltari, elite vs disposable Resistance)
I was thinking about trying to show the core rulebook only except for tapping reconquest phase 1 for some showpiece models. Any suggestions to the contrary or in support of the idea would be really helpful.

I'd just show the starter sets and explain the variants as you go, probably with the rulebooks as an aid.

Good luck painting them like that.

You actually mean Art Nouveau. Streamline Moderne is completely different. It's streamlined.

They're all in plastic, so you can always strip and repaint to get it just right. It shouldn't be that hard with a decent airbrush, either.

Yeah I guess that would be best. What do you think I should introduce to players just familiar with starter sets first? I wasn't sure if I wanted to do command vehicles and decks or fast movers.

Having a starter set + basic CV and a single fast mover (or two corsairs for the scourge) would probably work.

>3rd generation of drop* generals
Hopefully the release of dropfleet will secure us a permanent presence.

good plan. Guess next order I'll place will be filling that plan out. After that I'll let them play with whatever toys I have lying around and encourage them to try building lists and buying things on their own because fuck keeping 5 separate armies at 1500 points right now.

No, I don't actually mean Art Nouveau.

I think using the base starter sets would be the cheapest option as well as the easiest to understand and match games against. The core starter sets are fairly well balanced against eachother in terms of point value and equality.

As far as different army ideas, elite vs disposable resistance doesnt really work well at a low level skirmish points value where you would be showing off a demo game. The Elite resistance units are going to be too expensive to really fit in, and my may end up gimping yourself, additionally youll need the requisite troops and standard battlegroups and that doesnt leave too much room to play at the ~550 pts the starter sets all come in at.

PHR cant really run all skimmers at the moment, you can certainly go skimmer heavy but thats sort of a mixed bag on effectiveness, skimmer APCs are far more expensive per base of infantry transported, for not a huge increase in mobility or survivability vs regular APCs, and usually light dropship spam wins through especially for PHR. Youll still need standard battle groups with regular walkers in your army list, and for support choices you got a lot of competition in a PHR list, although the helios AA is a solid choice for any list.

For UCM or scourge you can easily swap out the standard choices to show how they mix things up at a skirmish level without too much of an issue, probably same with shaltari, in fact most people run tarantulas over tomahawks from what ive seen.

TLDR: Id recommend staying vanilla to get people interested, then maybe break out the options once youve got a hook in em to further the pull.

hi streamline moderne is in fact a type of art deco, so still art deco, and yes the games art style is art deco if you dont like art deco the game will not do it for you ever.

I dont think this will happen until the models are prepainted

I missed you user, these threads aren't the same without this meme.

Alternate fast movers for non-UCM when?

Lol that troll again.

Probably when they fix fast movers in general.

they are not nearly as god awful as they are made out to be, they are just too unreliable to high end tournament play, but they come through just fine in casual play against friends. Hell In a recent game I lucked out and had my athena come in first turn, and then shoot down my opponents eagle in one pass. Granted he has never had his eagle survive past turn 3.

So Hawk has said that the DfC rules will include rules for interplay between DfC and DzC.
Has anybody leaked what this is?
Any fanwankery ideas for what it could be?

I had a look at the game at UKGE, and i'm intrigued. The big ship thing is pretty cool in person.

If I was messing around, it'd be you play a game of one and it would influence the other. Did you fail to gain more points then your opponent during the Fleet phase? then you can't access rare units during the zone phase. Take a defense laser during your zone phase? you get a shot with it whenever an enemy strike carrier comes over one objective during the fleet phase.

That said, who knows how they're planning it.

That could be fun for a "campaign" type of tournament or something. Win a space battle above some planet? Your opponent can't use orbital strike abilities.

Apparently someone spoke with Hawk at the UK games Expo. It looks like they are planning to start shipping to backs mid july. And general release around September if all the backs ave received their orders.

What do you all think of the crossbow?
For 35 points you get an infinite range laser with raven-b and missile pods.

It is so cheap it is hard not to justify. Point two of these pointing at FP or just down travel lanes seeps pretty awesome.

Seems like an excellent way to lock down an area of a table.
Though they probably are going to be extremely vulnerable to fast movers.

Laser weapons are highly underrated. Even one or two can lock down a key corridor for the opening of the game, and get free kills well beyond their points worth. Or better, movement denial.

Also, I'm actually super stoked for Resistance Thunder Wagons. I want my Scud Missile Trucks to rain death on the spacemans, the bodysnatchers, the protoss, and the skynets.

So, between DZC and DFC, I'm gonna go out and buy an airbrush.

Do I need to buy the GW 'Air' line of paints? I have a ton of GW paints, I'm guessing you can just load up your Russ Grey into your new airbrush and go to town?

As for Demos, I always felt the starters gave a neat feeling foe the rules but didn't feel meaty enough, as you only had 1 of each unit type (AA, Tank, Infantry).

TWO Starters meanwhile, gives a pretty neat representation of the game.

---

As for Dropfleet, I cannot wait. It just looks amazing.

>Do I need to buy the GW 'Air' line of paints?
No, there are plenty of other paint lines out there; just two of which are Vallejo's game air and model air.
Most "airbrush paints" are just really thin paints with a very high pigment count, but you can use any paint in the airbrush so long as you thin it sufficiently.

>rain death on the spacemans
Your ungrateful ass will get the ever loving fuck liberated out of it.

Not a terrible idea. I think one starter for intros, 2 starters once they have a vague understanding of the rules, then 2 starters plus a cv and flyer for full introductions.

I thought they were space sonics

Spacehogs?

Yea protoss doesn't really fit them.

They are supposed to be shorter and more conniving assholes who are scared shitless of dying.

>conniving assholes
Bro

>June
>no pics of Scourge or PHR battleships yet
I'm dying.

hawkpls

bumping with futuremensch

>futuremensch
That's a weird way to spell "Borg."

>who are scared shitless of dying.
Kinda sort-of. They are essentially clinically immortal so death is really scary to them, but they're quite battle-hungry adrenaline junkies so many still fight on frontlines and risk they their lives anyway to the rush.

The *young* are on the frontlines, since they don't fear death the same way the old do. As they get older, they get further and further away from the front.

You also aren't allowed a name until you've been in battle, so there's that.

So Hawk started with DzC and now we'll have DfC.
Spartan started with Firestorm Armada and now has Firestorm Planetfall.
How are the two comparing so far?

This one looks silly from that angle.

>FEED ME LUDDITES

Guys how is this still blank
1d4chan.org/index.php?title=Dropfleet_Commander&action=edit&redlink=1

It could probably be cooped into the DZC article

>1d4chan.org/index.php?title=Dropfleet_Commander&action=edit&redlink=1

Not really enough is known about the game yet. Once people get some copies and the rule come out that will fill out.

I couldnt say on an actual rules basis, but as far as support goes, Hawk is alot better than spartan, although they also have far fewer games so there is that.

...

Hawk actually supports their games and didn't do faction creep leading into fucking Game System creep.

DzC is dramatically more balanced than any Spartan game and legitimately has a unique play style

Found on Hawk forums:
>Having spoken with the guys while at expo the word was thus;
>Kickstarter distribution will be in July and IF all of the backers (or 99.99999%) have received their stuff they'll look at taking a few starter sets to Gencon.
>General release will most likely be September though as per the current plan.

>have at least a minimum of one more month
At least they'll be shipping faster than most kick starters.

On a related note, this probably has to be the one ship design that I'm just not feeling. The blue balls of tectonic doom just don't do it for me.

I'm not a fan of any of the hedgehog ships, honestly. Dave did a good job of making them look really alien, but they're all spindly and weird.

>I'm not a fan of any of the hedgehog ships, honestly.
The hedgehog ships are some of my favorites, personally. It's just the blue balls of orbital annihilation that I don't like.

Where's the UCM bombardment ship anyway? I don't remember seeing one.

The Madrid cruiser is the only one with a set of underside railguns locked at a significant downward angle, so I'd assume it's that one.

Yep, the Madrid

I wonder if there's going to be any explanation as to why a Madrid is needed instead of other ships just rolling on their sides or something and shooting whatever they have.

Then there's all the OTHER possible cruiser variants we can get.

Hmmm. I posted the carriers before the cruisers

All named after towns in British TV shows fuckin lol.

Mostly a game reason. But probably had to do with its weapons being optimized to shoot through atmo at ground targets with high accuracy. Regular Gus possibly don't have right ammo of fire at too high a velocity, rounds burn up or skip of the atmo.

Not all. There's one odd one out.

So as a heads up, Miniature Market is having a clearance sale right now and has a bunch of DZC stuff for up to 75% off. Good time for folks to start.

>check sale list
>only things on sale are the hardcover rulebook, Resistance Leviathan, and Resistance Sappers
o-oh

Dat X-wing sale tho

I know; I think I'll grab one of the hardcover rulebooks though, since they look really nice from what pictures Hawk has of them on their website.

Oh. I thought they had a wider selection of stuff on sale.

I'm sorry user, I didn't mean to get your hopes up.

It's all good user, I'm sure a resistance player will be able to take advantage of it.

DZC takes place within the gravity well of a planet, it's not like battlefleet gothic where you're fighting in 0 gravity, so ship orientation in relation to the planet below matters. I mean, I'm assuming everything important is strapped in and all, but still.

I love immortals (including the snipers) and I love light drop ships. I like Valkyries and medusas and am meh on sirens (model wise)

What's my optimal troop type spread for an all comers list?

>What's my optimal troop type spread for an all comers list?
Optimal all comers lists don't really work, but here's something I whipped up real quick.

Standard Army
Clash: 1492/1500 points
Standard Army
PHR Standard Roster [1492/1500 pts]

Hand of the Sphere [372 pts]
Command Walker Squadron: Zeus(Battle Vizier), Odin, Neptune [276 pts]
Mercury Scout Drone Squadron: 4x Mercury, 2x Triton A2 [96 pts]

Battle Pantheon [126 pts]
Type 1 Walker Squadron: Phobos [63 pts]
Type 1 Walker Squadron: Phobos [63 pts]

Battle Pantheon [63 pts]
Type 1 Walker Squadron: Phobos [63 pts]

Immortals Phalanx [303 pts]
Immortals: 2x Immortals, Triton A1 [101 pts]
Immortals: 2x Immortals, Triton A1 [101 pts]
Immortals: 2x Immortals, Triton A1 [101 pts]

Pegasus Group [378 pts]
Valkyries: 2x Valkyries, Triton A1 [119 pts]
Valkyries: 2x Valkyries, Triton A1 [119 pts]
Medusa: Medusa, Triton X [140 pts]

Heavy Pantheon [250 pts]
Type 2 Walker Squadron: 2x Odin, Neptune [170 pts]
Thor Bombard Battery: 2x Thor Bombard [80 pts]

3 immortals to secure objectives, 2 valks to harass and secure distant objectives, as well to sight for your Thors. You could probably drop the second squad of Odins for a second Medusa, but I don't think you'll do too well without at least two squads of dedicated, ranged AV.

Looking solid. Now how do we fit a jades in there

Jesus fuck, hades

get rid of the thor/odin you can fit in a hades no prob, problem is that list is hella light on AA, and has no way to deploy forward AA, any sort of gunship spam/FM is going to make you sad

What would the normal PHR amount of infantry be compared to that?

Probably 3-4 immortals and 1-2 sirens.

sorta what said. Looking at that list you dont really need I think 3 sets of immortals if you have 2 sets of valkyries, also a medusa is going to be a solid asset if used well and can even perform some serious anti tank. Two or three walk on phobos is probably fine, seems to be the tournament meta, but id still want some helios in a neptune to get in the center of the map if it were me, as far as that heavy pantheon goes, seems unfocused.

lot of people take walk on Hades, I personally dont like that feels too limited, but if you do throw a hades in a list you need some AA to cover it, that thing is gunship fodder

Super heavy Walker with E12 demolisher tail gun, white nano hive and AA claws when

Could a walk on Hades actually be a good opportunity for some walk on Janus?

>giant primordial robo dinosaur with its raptor escort walking on to the board and spraying death downrange

It might not be the best but it certainly sounds cool.

suppose but your gonna throw too battlegroups at that unless the janus are in the command group, also not sure a pair or even 4 janus is gonna be enough to stop a serious air attack, but worth a try.
