That is Witcher fanart. Jakub Rozalski. If you haven't played before, some of the swords you can get have curved blades (more like a sabre than a katana). No explanation for the pose though.

Polish folks have a pretty long history of sabers being used in their national history so Geralt using one isn't that odd, even discounting besides the fact that messer/grossmesser swords were fairly popular in parts the region as well.

As to the "samurai pose", that's really just gripping your sword tightly (hence the straightness of the blade) and keeping it ready to be brought up if you needed to fight again, and given the fuck-off huge Fiend behind Geralt over there I'm guessing he heard it already.

It's drawn by a Pole. And as much as witcherfags in Poland are crying about the quality of the TV show, they've all seen it regardless. And each witcher is carrying katana-esque sword with them, while the fencing instructor for it was in fact aikido trainer.
