What Is With the Rare Old Power Armor Meme?

It's false. The idea that the old power armor is a rare sight or hard to obtain is absolute horseshit. A full suit? Sure maybe, but going by the canon appearance of every Ultramarine in Second Company by M41.999, virtually everybody here is wearing some form of unique older mark of armor mixed in with their aquila stuff. In fact, supposedly "rare" armor and bolters seem to be common as shit as individual pieces. Let's just look at the first squad, numbered 1-10.

>1 has either a MK VI or MK V breastplate and older HH period bolter.
>2 has MK II legs and either MK V or VI pauldrons
>3 has MK IV pauldrons.
>4 has MK VI helm, MK IV pauldrons, and MK VI legs
>5 has MK II or III pauldrons and a relic bolter
>6 has a MK IV helm and either MK V or VI breastplate
>7 has a MK III breastplate and some artificer modded leg armor.
>8 is wearing MK V or VI breastplate and MK VI pauldrons
>9 is wearing a MK III helm, MK V legs, and either MK V or VI breastplate.
>10 is wearing MK VI legs.

Now while the basic space marine troop box comes with MK VI parts, why the fuck doesn't it include MK III or MK IV bits when these things are quite clearly mixed in with other pieces?

It's rare (though still doable) for new Space Marine Chapters to get a hold of older-model wargear and relics, because their Chapter doesn't have the level of clout and the history behind them to merit having them.

Chapters like the First Founding Chapters, however, have incredible clout and the history of actually using those armor patterns when they were once commonplace, so it's entirely logical that they're going to have a lot more of them.

The older your organization is = the better shit you get, for a wide variety of reasons.

You seem to be a little triggered here, user.

Wow. The most well renowned and wealthy first founding chapter has a significant amount of old armor in one of their companies. Obviously the outright stated fact that old armor is rare must be wrong.

Because the setting has very little consistency, the old is good generally is in relation to armor worn by hero's (has been imbued by the Spirit of the wearer via latent physic aura of humans adding to its power level over the Millenniums; as it ages it gets a greater "soul"/ machine spirit.

The other flip side is the tech is sooooooooooo ancient it is from the golden age and literally irreplaceable and one of a kind space magic technology.

>why does a first-founding legion got stuff from the Horus Heresy and before ?
geez I really don't know

You posted the Ultramarines, the greatest and most renowned Space Marines and one of the oldest Chapters in the Imperium. Of course they're going to be swimming in relics.

Mk 6 Armor was only mass-produced post-Heresy (though it was being tested since right before it). It was only really replaced because Mk 7 was easier to maintain, so having a full suit of armor's not hard to get. Not as easy as just asking, but still not hard.

Mk 5 isn't really even a legitimate mark, just some slapped-together pieces of Mk 4 or earlier suits with studs because that was easy to do with the limited supplies available to everyone during the Heresy.

Mk 4 is where things become harder to gather, but older chapters would probably have some if they have enough relations.

Mk 3 and Mk 2 suits would probably be the closest to being relics, if only because those were only produced during the early Crusade and were already being phased out by the time of the Heresy, mostly because of faults in the designs. Of course, First and Second founding chapters would probably have a few full suits by right of connection to their legions, with the odds going down the further down the line the founding is.

are you seriously questioning why Cato Sicarius has a lot of expensive shit? he is fucking Cato Sicarius

He also posted the second Co. who are going to be wearing the oldest marks of PA in the entire chapter, 1st getting termi

Not everyone is Ultramarines Second Company. You also didn't circle every single part of every single marine. There's tons of Mk VI and VII in there. Compare that to, say, Carcharodons, who are hobos and live almost entirely off older armor.

Newer successors who don't scavenge are likely not going to have that many pre-Heresy pieces.

That's first company retard, Ultramarines aren't Dark Angels.

>That's first company retard

It's second company. Cato is captain of the second and the Marines have the gold trim of the second rather than the white of the first.

Mkiv is just as rare as ii and iii among loyalists; it's not as old but most mkiv suits were issued to traitor legions prior to the heresy on Horus' orders. The only chapter which still maintains large numbers of mkivs is the Red Scorpions which makes sense since they'really loyalist emperor's children.

You can go to a history museum in any major city and see relics of one period of war or another, but not all of them are the swords of Charlemagne's Paladins, Hitler's Luger, or the Spear of Destiny.

Why is relic gear seen as a good thing for a Space Marine chapter?

The way I see it, an increased amount of obsolete equipment would be the sign of a lesser, poorly-equipped chapter that cannot afford to outfit it's marines with "modern" equipment.

Because older armor is actually better than the one they can make since all the scientific knowledge needed to make it was lost and research to recreate it is outlawed

Don't think about it too hard, in truth the source of everything in 40k is that it looks cool and sells toys

Because power armor is never "obsolete". Even Mk II is still good at its job. The only truly "obsolete" mark is 5 since it's a high heat, high weight, jury-rig. Mk 2 is actually BETTER in terms of plating than Mk 4, but the overlapping plates were too hard to produce and maintain. 4 contains superior systems, cable efficiency, power plants, etc but the armor plating was made in slabs because they're easier to do that way.

Yeah you could say that all mk 8 or 7 is the best way to go, but marines go all autistic about "muh lineage" and "muh past glories" so it's a prestige thing.

>obviously the oldest and one of the most renowned chapters second company (one of the better equipped ones) is representative of the whole galaxy of space marines!

no

Of course they can't be representative. How else would every other marine look up to them and aspire to be like them if they were just like everyone else?

Go read about First Companies and Terminator plate. We'll wait.
Hell, look at the First Company Task Force formation. Terminators. (And Veterans, because Terminator armour is too rare and expensive for most Chapters to kit out the whole 1st Company with it.)
>obsolete
And there's the problem in your reasoning. Plasma guns that have been in service for millennia aren't obsolete, because the Mechanicus abhor innovation and human technology is stagnant. In many cases older stuff is actually better, because it was made with knowledge and technology that have since been forgotten or phased out for being hard to mass-produce on the scale the Imperium requires.

You have officially put more thought and effort in this ULTRAMAIRNES chart than its creator.

you are a fucking moron

>The way I see it, an increased amount of obsolete equipment
Older armor marks aren't necessarily worse: iirc, MK4 is amongst the best armor mark possible.

>Veeky Forums talking about Ultramarines without bashing on them

Hell yeah, motherfucker. I've been waiting for this.
