Does anyone have the PDF for the campaign book that was put out? Also, are there any homebrew siege rules?
David Martin
>Siege rules. That sounds cool.
Isaiah Howard
I'm very close to jumping ship from WHFB to KoW for various reasons and I have almost finished my lizardmen army. What can I use it as in Kings of War? What's a good way to start with this game? What kind of size should the army start (in WHFB, it's 3 units and a character).
Daniel Smith
The Salamanders are the direct analogy for Lizardmen in Kings of War (See them in the Uncharted Empires book and of course the free online army builder). You miss a few things like jungle swarms, but other things like fire elementals are added in (Finally an excuse to use the Incarnate Elemental of Fire).
For a standard army you should try to at least touch 1000 points, which can be easily accomplished with three units and two characters to let your guys reroll nerve tests.
Asher Foster
What is the average size game? my LGS is using 1500 which seems semi-large to me.
Jaxon Barnes
1500 is already at the lower end. 1500-2500 is the standard range for a game, with 1500 being small and 2000 being typical.
Brody Rodriguez
1500 points is kinda standard at my LFGS too.
1500 points is kinda big in terms of minis if you take infantry, I did one today and I had 120 minis on the table roughly. Of course, monster circuses will have less minis on the table.
Ian Murphy
Noted, I'm used to smaller skirmish games so large armies seem vast.
Chase Barnes
KoW is definitely a big game. Mantic kind of has an excuse as their official figures are cheap, but it is certainly more than most games at the scale.
Jeremiah Morris
>large armies seem vast. Kind of. KoW is much, much, much faster to play than WHFB so you can get away with larger armies as it is.
Remember the game is played in units, not model count, of which 1500 pts you'll only have up to ~dozen functional units on the table maximum.
The large model count is technically just decor, since we all multibase and there is no model removal from a unit.
Sebastian Jenkins
Oh also keep in mind that you can literally play without any model smaller than an ogre with most of the armies.
Asher Mitchell
Recommendations on good Ratkin models for someone who doesn't like Skaven or things imitating them?
Jackson Ross
also check out the herd list. I could see salamanders playing here, and the herd is one of the most effective armies on the table, desu.
Brody Wilson
>Not-skaven or like-skaven No rats? Well I supposed you could substitute any swarm-like dudes. Personally I wish there was a decent selection of insectoid models out there but there's not.
Dominic Ramirez
You can just test the game with cardboard rectangles, you really don't need minis. They just look nice.
Brody Clark
I was introducing a 9th age player to the game last night, and he thinks that 9th age has deeper strategy.
Since I've never played 9th age, can the group please comment on this? Agree/disagree? Why?
Kayden Perry
I find 1500 to be perfect for funtime.
I don't think 2000 offers anything you don't get at 1500.
Camden Rivera
>much, much faster to play than WHFB
100% true.
Mason Reyes
9th age has more shit in it, sure. I don't think that means more strategy at all. There's lots of just absolutely non-viable units and messy, stupid special rules. It didn't fix a single problem of WHFB.
Kevin Carter
This is actually an interesting idea.
Ratkin with goblin models? What are some other possibilities?
Christopher Howard
>9th age has deeper strategy. What kind of "deep"?
I usually classify as Abstract and Simulationistaustim. Abstract deep is like Go, or most people would say Chess. It's technically very simple. Simulationist is just cramming more things in which technically could have been simplified without missing much functionality. Eg: WHFB movement rules vs KoW movement rules.
Samuel Peterson
I need a concept for something awesome for Krudger to fly around on. My orc army is all oldhammer orcs. I covet the oldhammer wyrvrn orc hero, but I lost an ebay auction and my heart is broken. I'l thinking about nurgle plague drones, since they are the right size and I've always liked the models. I'm not committed to bugs.
Please give me some ideas, because I am a tool with no imagination.
Jason Walker
No problem with rat, just the blighted plague rat thing.
Xavier Cox
Reaper has mouslings, but it would be pretty hard to get a whole army out of those. Dunno if anyone else does similar things.
Jackson Jones
>hard to get a whole army out of those *expensive as fuck
Wouldn't it be easier just to do some conversions of existing skaven models to make them less 'diseased'?
Jack Taylor
>There's lots of just absolutely non-viable units Have you ever played 9th age user? I can not think of a single bad units in that game.
Henry Cooper
I'm just trying to help m8 Also splintered light is $8 for a pack of 6, Flytrap Factory is $10-20 NZD for a pack of 2-5 and Eureka is $3 AU which are all pretty bloody cheap actually
Angel Flores
Probably just because you can have more special rules that all work together across every army.
Isaac Ramirez
I know, and I'm not the guy who asked. But I knew before anybody even linked anything that it would be a fairly difficult and expensive proposition such that personally I would have opted for kitbashing / conversions.
It's not as difficult or time consuming as most people think, and I think it's doable with skaven.
Michael Rivera
>deeper strategy >Gee I hope my cav doesn't flub the charge distance
The final rule change that made me drop both fantasy and 40k
Xavier Flores
Eh, random charges got bumped into shambling though which is something kind of newish rather than fucking with something already established. Cavalry in particular, should be able to make a reliable charge. That's what they're there for.
Dylan James
The reaper bones line has a good mix of dragons on the cheap, with just a bit of simple green stuff work and some cav legs the wyvern up pretty good. (unless you a 4 limb purest, then you need some cutting)
Dylan Wood
But shambling units can still charge as normal, they only have to surge to get cheeky side/rear charges, or extra long distance charges
Sebastian Howard
My favourite use of surge is when something is behind you, rotate 180 then stack surge on it to turn the charge back against them. Best way to deal with flyers.
Brandon Ward
Somebody did that to me last night. nicely done.
Joseph Jackson
Sweet model. Is it yours?
I'll check out bones.
Grayson Robinson
Thanks, it is.
Caleb Long
I have a 125gbp ($185) coupon code for the mantic shop which I would be willing to trade in for cash (using paypal).
Is anyone here interested?
Jaxon Allen
>I have a 125gbp ($185) coupon code... How?
Lol, I have contacts at a distributor. I can buy anything, even Mantic, at 50% the store prices. No thanks, I'm good. Unless you want less than 50% value for it.
Charles Mitchell
I did some work for them and they repaid me with a coupon code. Not willing to trade for such a low figure though.
Eli Taylor
Actually, I'm more interested in what kind of work. I know they're still forced to use a lot of freelancers for stuff.
Also, LOL paid in product for work. I was going to ask "nothing at the store interests you...?" but no I've had idiots offer to pay me in product too... at full MSRP of the product. Please tell me the coupon is at least double what you'd have been paid in cash.
Joshua Clark
I helped out with testing out some of the games and providing feedback, didn't even think we were going to get something for it, just did it for fun.
Sebastian Bennett
>volunteer work Oh, OK. Nevermind, that's actually pretty generous. Now I do have to ask about why nothing on the store interests you (185$ is more than most people would sink into Mantic normally).
Kind of curious about the feedback you gave too, or what they're working on and such. I'm trying really hard to bait some storytime out of you, if you didn't notice.
Tyler Brown
Right now I could need that kind of money much more in cash than in miniatures, and anything I was interested in from Mantic I already got...
I've just been playtesting the new Warpath since summer 2014. The game went through a lot of changes in that time and the beta has been released on the forums right now so you can check it out for yourself.
The only story time I can give you is that the development has been extremely long the way I see it, and having no clear direction plus a big committee didn't necessarily do it any good.
As such I am not too satisfied with the final result. Originally they pushed really hard to make Warpath a single rulebook, but lack of experience made that fail hard. Now they have gone for two rulebooks, which makes me realize how much time they have wasted on this game.
They have been working on Warpath for over 5 years now, they released two version (mass battle and platoon size) and were unsatisfied with them both times. Then they chucked those to make a single game which they developed for 2 years, and then at the final moment decided to split it up into two books again.
The way I see it they might as well have just polished up Warpath 1.0 and 2.0 and re-released those as Warpath 3.0, at least those games were developed by Alessio and were good. What we are left with now is just kind of a mess, and the reviews on the forums show that.
Adrian Johnson
30% sounds about right to me, random internet person.
Wyatt Sanchez
I'd be willing to give the coupon for 100gbp ($145), I think that $40 for the "trouble is more than fair.
Jace Murphy
This suddenly makes me remember
Way back when Mantic games threads were 99% trolls with dedicated trolling, there was a huge shitfit over playtesters being unpaid or some nonsense.
David Russell
Is it common for playtesters to be paid? I've playtested a few things and I've always just done it for fun or as a favor to a friend
Nicholas Lopez
>Is it common for playtesters to be paid? No, not really.
Ryder Wood
If anything 9th age is way less strategic than KoW due to its low lethality inherited from 8th ed.
Dylan Stewart
It's a double edged sword, since it can be merely a distraction to divert your death star.
Adrian Miller
Just played a 2000 point game, Varangur vs. Brotherhood.
My Chieftan on Direfang fought like a Greek Hero, in 4 turns he killed a spearmen horde (with the help of a fallen horde), an Order of Redemption regiment and an Order of Forsaken Horde all from the front, getting 2 of the 3 loot tokens in the process.
He then died, just, to being charged by 2 forsaken beasts and 2 exemplars on the last turn.
I've never been too much into "your dudes" in KoW, but this guy might be the first.
Brayden King
>Way back when Mantic games threads were 99% trolls with dedicated trolling >way back
That only stopped being the case when Warhammer was replaced by AoS and when KoW, in the most beautiful timing possible, got its second edition at the same time so that the refugees had somewhere to go.
Elijah Johnson
That is one of the reasons why I am not really interested in Warpath. No based Alessio behind it and it isn't as open to using whatever models you want as KoW. Hopefully they can get it right this time, but with the imbalance in Deadzond, I have my worries.
Luis Cruz
Convert Ghouls to be more rat like? Add shields, sculpt some rodent like features with Green Stuff and make manrats rather then ratmen? GW´s Crypt Horror/Vargheists kit could make for some interesting Brute conversions. Maybe some Chaos bits as well?
Brandon Torres
Kobolds would be fitting.
Kevin Taylor
Bump
Noah Parker
These things are coming in July. Maybe to Skaven like for you, but it´s something. Depending on how big they are they could make a fun alternative to Orcs as well.
Andrew Watson
Obviously you can use whatever models you want for any game tho
Connor Lee
Started work on my Abyssal Dwarves
Angel King
Looks nice! Please post more pictures of your army as you finish up units.
Juan Foster
Just dipped my landsknetch for my league army so it dries during the night.
James Lee
Always do, now I need to figure out what to pick up next.
Austin James
nice looking minis, quality beer and the same bottle opener as I use bloody ledge/10
Need bigger pictures, possibly the best looking mantic stuff yet.
Chase Stewart
Anybody see the Warcraft movie and realize the way they portrayed the warcraft dwarves was characteristically similar to the Mantic dwarves? (very flat head, very broad triangular nose, etc very rectangular and broad shouldered).
First thought when they popped up in the movie, "hey if you put a flattop helmet on that and..."
Nathaniel Sanchez
There's a bunch more on the facebook page for GMM studios
Tyler Nguyen
excellent. bet there are cheap kobolds all over.
Liam Wright
Even the shitty mummies look decent. Does anyone else have some pictures of painted mummies?
Connor Hill
Mantic should shot the painters, they really ruin they minis.
Isaiah Perez
Ease up, Duncan. It's really not that bad.
Julian Lopez
Can you get the Chocobos on their own or do I need to get the full pudge-patrol as well?
Owen Perez
Those guys are still not available (they are form The Assault Group btw), but I think you will be able to order the chicks only.
Jack Cox
Mantic should just do what Wyrd does and show pictures of CG renders instead of relying on painters at this point.
Gabriel Campbell
A shitton of people don't trust renders. Plus I think they are going nostalgia for WHFB which includes a level of jank on the minis.
Owen Hall
I think it was just a budget issue. They seem to be getting better.
As much as I love KoW, 9th age fits what WHFB was the most - simply because 9th Age is a lot closer to WHFB 8e in mechanics than KoW is - individual units, WS vs WS, etc.
That said, I still much prefer Kings of War for my rank and file fantasy wargaming.
Isaiah Johnson
Warhammer was never good, KoW is the game I wished Warhammer was back when I didn't know other wargames existed. So I don't really care what's the best successor, because I want something new.
Austin Lewis
Why success WHFB? it was shit as a game; throwing dices to "randomize" ludicrous things with a bunch of rules and tables that made the game cumberson. Why would someone want to success that shit?
KoW is just a better game with horrible lore, let it be what it is.
Asher Howard
KoW's lore isn't bad, there just isn't much of it.
Elijah Walker
As is universally accepted by all, the famous poet Winters SEO is objectively the best place for enjoying WH40K battle reports.
Who creates the best KOW batreps? Why?
Gabriel Nguyen
Guerilla Miniatures?
They're the only ones I can think of that make decent stuff. Most batrep channels have shit video and audio quality and are played by people with personalities staler than grandma's twat.
Sebastian Hill
Agree that these are pretty good.
All 6 of them. Under 1500 points. :(
Ryder Mitchell
True, at the moment is feels kinda Tolkien, but it's going to be really hard to give an equivalent to all the fluff WHFB had.
Guerrilla Miniatures, Master Crafted, Fish Bat (who post here) and gaming with the coolest (does the least KoW of the ones I named). They all have their pros and cons, but they are quite helpful.
Cooper Perry
Really keen on a story time.
Do you know why Firefight hasn't been getting any updates?
Ryder Kelly
>People actually voted Sigmar OK, who's botting the poll
Evan Gray
Thanks.
Here's hoping my Chocobo Rough Riders can take to the field by the end of the year.
Levi Bell
I agree wholeheartedly with this post.
Dylan Green
Probably the Age of Sigmar General
Camden Perez
I really wish Mantic would focus in some game already, some love for KoW like comics or novels would be good too, or at least what Warzone has to deepen the lore.
