This is the official Imperial First Contact protocol.

I'm done with work in 2hrs, can't wait to level up my SM admiral.
Tell me /bfgg/, how do you upgrade your fleet? Any ship you're particularly proud of? Tell me of your past triumphs or your finest hour.
Grayson Lewis
Well, i learnt that a Mk1 battle barge with chapter master on it can wreck a 400 points worth of light cruisers and strike cruisers from rival SM forces.
Matthew Taylor
>Any ship you're particularly proud of? Everything with a ram basically. So satisfying to go into super speed and give them a good bump, immediately go back to allow them to drift a few meters away and then ram them again. Can kill light cruisers with full health in a few seconds
Charles Martinez
>Tell me of your past triumphs I just had my strike cruiser carry the game after all the escorts (three Hunters) got vaped, as did one of the LCs (that's the third time that's happened to that ship, waste of renown, giving it the MotF) and the other LC had to pull out.
SC killed the last two of the Eldar cruisers (one it set on fire via boarding parties and watched it burn to death as it tried to pull out, the other I didn't see) and blew up the last two escorts with a third of its health and no shields.
Sebastian Jones
My Retribution class "The Shield of Tarantis"
My fleet getting hammered by all sides by chaos vessels, but in a slip of the enemy he got his admiral ship rather close to an asteroid cluster, that brief moment that he stopped to turn around gave me enough time to micro-warp jump at his side. A full broadside at 3k range from a Retribution is something to be reckoned with.
The heretic vessel tryed to run through the asteroid field, tryed. Because moments after that a really lucky volley of torpedos sent the ship to mutiny.
The rest of the blasphemouos fleet turned tail the second his Admiral was rammed with the full might of His Holyness most vaunted Imperial Navy.
Brandon Moore
>enemy is flying dangerously close to the mines all the time >finally manage to catch him while doing it and ram him into them >they don't go off Unlucky or can they only explode if you fly into them yourself?

Something went wrong. I've blown up countless gits by using the traktor to push them into mines.
Carson Reed
My greatest triumph was playing with my buddy and shouting orders at him, watching as our beautiful strategies unfold and the enemy crumple.
>tfw facing chaos and marine kite >both our ork fleets hide in clouds >chaos loses patience and charges in >ork songz jam his detection and he has to come even closer >that perfect BRB from both of us forces space marines to rush in and save his ally >it's too late >"orkz OP"
Jack Clark
So this just happened in a skirmish against the Orks AI
Jeremiah Hill
And it keeps getting more and more far, homing torps can't reach him

Strategies for fighting Orks as SM?

dude just stay away like just spam torpedoes lmao
Zachary Wood
>my level 3 chaos light cruisers against space marines >I've got 2 carriers, I should be able to at least take 1 down >couldn't get them below 90% >apparently they have 75 armor all over, 9 defense turrets each, better strike craft plus homing boarding torpedoes on short cooldown
Welp looks like Chaos doesn't need to exist anymore.
Kevin Ward
Armored Thunderhawks and the fighter screen are a short of must against orks. Kite them with your homing torpedos and thunderhawks until you close the distance, hit them with a boarding action and run away.
Although i recommend you to act like a bloody marine and brawl those fuckers to death. You can have a healthy laught with your opponent after the match.
PS: AP ammo and chapter banner are a must in my opinion against orks.
Angel Moore
And the fighter screen like i said at the start of the post.
God dammit i need to sleep
Henry Watson
>Armored Thunderhawks ?
David Rogers
Probably bad translation on my part, but the bomber thunderhakws
Nathaniel Williams
>CRUISER CRUISER STRIKE
Joseph Butler
I've never had any luck with them, too many always get shot down for them to do any damage.
Easton White
Well, with 3 points in strike craft they become rather durable. So they are a handy investment when it comes to long and short range engagement, although i find it best in short range since most of the time their strike craft is busy with the homing torps
Gavin Mitchell
>My Dauntless rams a cruiser but still has enough momentum to ram another before pushing both of them into a minefield That'll do Dauntless, that'll do.

We still don't have webms with audio?
Jackson Morris
What's the best counter to space marine fleets in multiplayer?
I wanted to play them but literally every fucking opponent is space marines who are higher level than me, making it unwinnable unless they're actually brain dead.
I can just imagine this being used on a chaos ship as a psychological weapon of war.
Nolan Stewart
Not sure actually, I assumed this board has audio disabled.
Hudson Bailey
It does.
Jordan Davis
...
Eli Bailey
With SM you need the crew points in troops and strike craft.
Since you are only doing boardings and launching fighters.
Also get belt armour one lucky crib and your boarding and ordinance ship is useless.
Adam Myers
troops don't affect boarding. you need servitors mate
Xavier Fisher
It's to prevent the enemy boarding you. But yah servitors work good too.
Joshua Richardson
so Veeky Forums I've got a crazy idea. the chapter master has too favors, one that boosts special orders across the fleet, and the other that raises troop value and lowers enemy troop value against that ship (by 15, on top of the normal minus 10, can be another minus ten for lightning strikes). I've got this crazy idea that, and hear me out, I should give this to a torpedoe vanguard light cruiser. it has 4 different assault action vectors (all are affected by the -25 to troop value, up to -35 for the lightning strike). most importantly though, it's cheap as balls. sure a battle barge has more boarding and assault action potential, but it's roughly half the fleet. so the first bonus is relatively weak. but on a light cruiser it can either double up with my battle barge or with a bunch of line ships and escorts for maximum bonus. this might be an incredibly stupid idea and I need feedback from anyone but the official/steam forums.
Camden Cooper
How good is the campaign? Hoping it goes on sale but I don't know how long MP will last.
Tyler Garcia
It's basically just a string of skirmish battles with the odd mission thrown in.
Carter Nguyen
How fragile are the SM ships compared to, say, the IN?
Blake Gutierrez
Better armor, poorer health. They're 75 all around, but have hull like the Eldar, at least on the cruisers. I need to play more.
Zachary Evans
Their light cruisers feel very flimsy, cruisers and bbs are okay, mostly because they tend to perform at peak efficiency for a long time as boarding attacks don't really do much to them.
Jonathan Parker
So, I should get more Strike Cruisers as soon as I can, rather than sticking with the LCs?
Andrew Clark
Will we ever be able to paint our ships?
Jacob Jackson
Yes, in a month or two.
Parker Adams
Does any other battle brother find it strange that the path to victory for our hallowed strike cruisers and battle barges involve numerous tactical withdrawals and lurking in gas nebulae while throwing entire companies worth of boarding torpedos and thunderfowl over our bulkheads at the enemy?
Brandon Parker
YES
This pleases Spire senpai
Bentley Fisher
Didn't you read the updated codex heretic? WE FALTER IN FRONT OF NOTHING TO PURGE
Jonathan Hernandez
So I just got back to the game; did they remove rotational viewing for the ships??
Asher Campbell
Indeed brother, I was told our specialty was boarding action and lighting strikes. The iron priest tells me those "boardin' torpedoes" are a recently recovered archeotech but my pack brothers talks of foul ork contraption of the like only a mekboy would dream of. It troubles me deeply that we might be sending our brothers aboard xeno-tech, even if it's in the name of the Allfather.
Leo Cooper

Does Master Gunner actually improve SM bombardment cannons? >No Salamanders fleet
Ryan Ward
I have to convince myself that both the marines and the Imperial Navy troops are both armed with teleporters that they use success or failure
Chase Garcia
When we it be my turn?
Noah Allen
Its not so much faltering as it is advancing towards a more expeditious direction brother
No no brother they are merely the product of an incomplete stc, we shall find the missing "g" fragment soon. That or the adeptus mechanicus shall confiscate the blessed instruments like the fabled "Taunt"
Kayden Davis
So like Dark Crusade and Soulstorm? I can live with that.
Luis Roberts
It's a shame that was taken away, it would have been nice to insult Abbadon, and call him a failure during a battle with him on the planet killer.
Aaron Nelson
I fucking miss taunt
At least i still got traktors for my Orks and.....voss shields for my IN
Daniel Sanchez
>ultramarines in campaign >confirmed for being shitters that let the enemy transports escape
YOU JUST HAD TO DESTROY 1 TRANSPORT! I TOOK CARE OF THE REST!
Jace Walker
Is that achievement for taunting Abbadon still around? Cause I got that achievement and I feel special if it's unattainable now.
Jaxon Rogers
So, three of the five current armies are taunt based, with Space Marines for some reason being low health kiters all about hit and run tactics. Tau also specalize in long rsnge engagements amd forward facing guns, meaning that, when they drop, a full two thirds of all armies will be about staying as far away from the enemy as possible. On top of that, the two brawling factions are considered the two worste in the game.
Am I the only one dissapointed that the ship-of-the-line-in-space game is all about snipping and hitting and running? Is there any hope thst DEldar, 'nids, or 'crons will be about brawling instead of sitting on the other end of the map?
Evan Fisher
I meant kite-bases, not taunt-based. I'm dumb.
James Cruz
I think the main problem with that strategy is that every opponent with half a brain will blow that LC up as quickly as they can
Robert Cooper
I still got it brutha
Ryan Sanders
>D eldar >brawling
I dont know why but i love this horrifying concept
Oliver Robinson
w-will there be mod support? Steam workshop?
Ayden Parker
>Does Master Gunner actually improve SM bombardment cannons? I think so, but the squadron master, servitors and favor crew seem more important to me

>Vulkan's Lance-san dont ram into me so suddenly.....its so hot inside me
Cooper Barnes
Does the DLC add anything to the single player story?
Ian Walker
Nothing, except give the SM units in campaign proper units.
I'd be stoked if the campaign gets expanded or if we get a new one, though.
Brody Baker
modern strike cruisers are based on vulkan's design, so probably just like any other space marine fleet
the only chapters with different fleet makeups are going to be without a home planet and constantly patrolling (fists, templars, etc) or the Ultramarines
This just calls for concentrated beam artillery and fighter screens.
Isaac Myers
So best way to win against SM using chaos is combination of lances+fighter escort and outrange?
Gavin Moore
Just use the fighter wing skill. You can still use carriers as bombers with occasional fighters too since bombers have armor piercing attacks too.Or just go lances. Anything with AP works
Tyler Martin
Bump
Owen Morris
slaughters with mon still work wonders, give them shield depletion, belt armor and armor piercing and they'll rip and tear. otherwise archeons and other lance boats are best
Isaac Peterson
Is Dominator simply the best cruiser? >Nova >All those Macro-cannons >Can ram just like every other imperial cruiser >Provides both long and close range support to your fleet
Kayden Sanchez
Don't really like the nova since it is too unreliable.

Tyrant best, Gothic second. Dominator last, reserved for Eldar and when I lose a ship.
Samuel Jones
>99.4% of the Imperium are heretics that ally themselves with xeno scum >or haven't played the campaign again just to purge eldar
Traitors, the lot of you
Nicholas Peterson
>>no torpedoes >>no power ram Pretty much this. Dominator looks nice on paper but the lack of strong prow armor and the poor accuracy on the nova canon makes it a poor choice. You wantvto keep it away from the fight to use its nova to full potential, yet his broadside's short range (6k iirc) means he wants to get up close and use AP to brawl. If you ram you will wreck your nova (but you were probably not going to use it anyway). IMO tyrant does a better job and has plasma macro that fire at 12k if you want to keep your distance. If you want a nova in your fleet, i'd suggest a mars. It has ordonnance bay that complement the canons range well. I still prefer the overlord over the mars but I like brawling action over long range hit or miss canon barrage.
Camden Morgan
Nova is easy to use. >first, identify the enemy at long range. While getting in bomb range, it is vital to know what the enemy is bringing. This strategy could be ideal >drop one (disruption is best in this case). The enemy will try to avoid it. Use this to your advantage: try to herd them closer. >If they can't, perfect. With shields down, you can open fire with all your Novas at closest possible range. Follow up with torpedoes or massed fire. >if they avoid the bomb, make sure they are coming towards you. Spam all the ordnance you have, box them in and charge. Nova will strip the shields that the bomb spared, so follow up with massed fire. Novas are meant to be supplemented by torpedoes. Nova is a terror weapon, and can be used either to herd in enemies or scatter their formations. Torpedoes are heavy mid and close range weapons, and as such Nova and torpedoes are a perfect pair. Gothic+Dominator=OTP Correct me if I said something stupid.
Jace Cruz
>double penetration
Michael Scott
>Nova is a terror weapon, and can be used either to herd in enemies or scatter their formations
Torpedoes are much more effective IMO. They don't have to hit to work. The enemy sees them coming, and if you place them right, they'll scatter the way you want them to. With Novas, most of the time you just take your hit and keep moving. They are too fast to avoid properly and too random to need to worry about, and your shields will regen by the time you get to the enemy fleet.
