Tundra civ ep.69

Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.
Check out the pastebin for story, technologies, stats etc (updating it right now)

Previously on Tundra civ:
It's been over 10 years since the end of the second Great War and the White Republic is prospering - our ruined cities have been rebuilt, technology is progressing and the economy is doing great. Relationships with other nations are peaceful and we've even begun working on the Axis Space Station now!

As was chosen during the previous thread's last turn, we've worked together with the Faith of Oofnar, in particular the Order of St. Roise, in order to get religious institutions to help our communities in areas such as healthcare and social aid. Aside from that, religious teachings preach unity among our people, keeping the thoughts of secession away from the faithful.

G. More space flight and exploration.

what said.
We need more money for dem space programs.

Automaton technology has allowed us to produce remote-controlled vehicles, which we've used to build our first operational lunar rover, which we've deployed on Argosa IV b(the barren moon). We've built more commercial and scientific satellites around our home moon, Terra Nova. We've also launched missions to put a rover on Argosa II, which is a planet with a barren, hard surface and no atmosphere and a close flyby satellite to Argosa I, which has a pressure cooker atmosphere.
In the next 3 years we expect to mount exploratory missions towards Argosa IV, the other gas giant in the system and its three moons.

We need more money for them space programs. And money come from the economy.

Mo' Money for dem space programs you get me

changed to A

>A.Improve economy
while we've got some money might as well invest it to make even more money.
hell maybe we'll be on a positive income while sending spaceships left and right.

Current state of the economy - our surplus is fairly small, the budget is balanced with net revenue being barely positive. The agricultural sector is doing well, as are manufacturing and services, but in some areas raw material production is not enough to satisfy our needs(copper in particular is mostly imported from the SA) while oil demand has risen by a lot and the Republican Petroindustrial Concern(a national industry) has been lagging behind on its promised production quotas. The Sittar Petroleum company is belived by some to have hit peak oil production in Aymsland's Corelands oilfields. Oil magnates remain among the richest people in the world, by some accounts the Prince of Kayans is the richest man in the world - aside from being ruler of the Prizzid-Krushid Monarchy(a client state of ours, with a population of 20 million), he personally heads the Royal Petroleum Company, which holds a large part of the richest oil deposits in Aymsland.

What course should we take in regards to the economy? Multiple choices possible.
A.Invest in improving our national monopolies
B.Invest in business initiative programs to help all sorts of private enterprises prosper
C.Raise taxes for more revenue
D.Lower taxes for more growth
E.Other ideas

Of course favor our own entreprises but allow some technologies only your entreprise have to be traded at a cheaper cost as well so that the industry may prosper.
Patents are often shit let's make sure we share ours when it benefits us.

Rolled 5 (1d100)

1212 saw a weaker Chancellor elected, rural conservative Yuris Ganugin - voter turnout was quite low as people have lost much of their interest in politics due to complacency. In the following three years we've seen the return of piracy, as the NPU saw a rebellion in some of their ocean island territories. International commerce has taken a hit, which was hardly helped by the assassination of the CEO of the largest oil company in our republic, Jacel Sittars and a terorrist attack on the largest refinery in Swamprice, capital of petroleum. It didn't help that we had a nuclear meltdown in the Wirnis nuclear power plant after engineers pushed the plant's systems to their limits.
Government investments into nationalised industries have been a net loss so far as well.

The navy of tomorrow - the days of open ship-to-ship battle are looking to be a thing of the past, particulary in the face of large battleships. We'll be scuttling our oldest ships and modernising those we can, but what should we focus our efforts on, what should our main naval doctrine be?
A.Power projection - our fleet's force is centered around our carriers, everything else essentaily acts in support
B.Convoy interdiction and naval logistics - a focus on submarines and light vessels
C.Broad approach - have a strong core of medium-sized ships as our main force and focus on improving the quality of our personnel first

>B.Convoy interdiction and naval logistics - a focus on submarines and light vessels
We should have gone directly for the terrorist instead, this will only reduce their income not their manpower.
they'll just pick on targets on land.

>B.Convoy interdiction and naval logistics - a focus on submarines and light vessels

We've commisioned a new generation of nuclear submarines to be built, operated by the latest in computer technology. Our naval forces have been modernised and are ready for action.
The NPU have also been building up their navy to deal with the pirates and rebels they face.
The Prince of Kayans recently visited the Emir of Ahmanud, another client state of ours. The two rulers met privately.

Remove the rebels and terrorists

The rebels have taken over several islands in the Paj Ocean, between the Barniju isles and the NPU mainland. As a few of the NPU warships and even one submarine have mutinied and taken to the rebel side, they seem to have the power to tackle lightly defended convoys.
The NPU is preparing itself to strike against the rebels.
The terrorists who attacked the Sittar company are of undetermined origin, intelligence we've gathered so far has shown some links to the island rebels and some obscure political organisations in some of our regions - all of which are under surveillance from National Security and will be dealt with if warranted.

A.Co-ordinate with the NPU on defeating the island rebels
B.Strike at the rebels on our own
C.Focus our efforts on internal problems and counter-intelligence

>C.Focus our efforts on internal problems and counter-intelligence
Find and take out the rebels support first

>B.Strike at the rebels on our own
If they have enough weapon and explosives to attack us and our ships they've infiltrated the NPU.
Better to work on our own.

>B.Strike at the rebels on our own
They have a submarine and some warships that can really hit our shiping lines. So let take care of them our own.

The NPU naval could still have some rebels in them.

Roll once for our navy and once for the rebels - operation Monsoon is underway

Rolled 34 (1d100)

will i ever roll above 50?

Rolled 73 (1d100)

Rolled 16 (1d100)

We caught one of the rebel ships in a trap - they put up a decent fight, but were no match. We managed to extract information on rebel positions on the islands and proceeded with our advance. We found no trace of their submarine, but found 5 frigate-class ships docked - upon being boarded by Stormborn, remote detonations were triggered and the ships went up in flames along with those Stormborn who had boarded them.
The rebels have now retreated inlands, into the jungles of the islands.

A.Bomb the shit out of them
B.Coordinate with the NPU, let them eat the bullets
C.Advance on our own
D.Leave this to the NPU, our trade lanes are now secure

>A.Bomb the shit out of them
I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAPALM IN THE MORNING

Rolled 47 (1d100)

A.Bomb the shit out of them
If we go into the jungle it will be vietnam, with the rebels hiding in holes, and jumping out and shooting our men.
Time for the Napalm.

>B.Coordinate with the NPU, let them eat the bullets
We'll utilize the brave and noble NPU-forces as ground forces while we support them from the skies with our aircrafts.

only one thing to do
.
.
.
.
BLOW IT ALL UP

Rolled 50 (1d100)

For now we'll try to secure victory through aerial superiority and an intense campaign of aerial bombardment from our carriers - we'll bomb the shit out of them, in other words.

>50
That is better good with our luck

Our attacks so far have been limited to confirmed military targets. We've suffered no losses, but after 12 days haven't really gotten any positive results, the rebels are moving from one village to the next, hiding in underground shelters. They have some AA capabilities, but we've evaded the loss of any aircraft so far, only 1 bomber has been damaged so far, no casualties.
A.Indiscriminate aerial attacks, whatever it takes
B.Boots on the ground
C.Work with the NPU
D.Leave it to the NPU from now on

>A.Indiscriminate aerial attacks, whatever it takes
NUKE IT

A
Destroy them from the sky.

Helicopters, CAS jets, chemical weapons and heavy bombers will all be utilised - give me one roll now

>C.Work with the NPU
We need groundforces if we're ever going to accomplish anything and our allies can provide them for us.

A make sure they're where their suppose to be when we bomb them

Rolled 27 (1d100)

Rolled 73 (1d100)

Why nothing good ever happens to us .......

>together come up to 100
Not only has one month of aerial bombardment not achieved victory, we've lost one jet, three choppers and have seriously damaged the land - the NPU government is demanding we cease these attacks and that if we would pursue further action, we must operate under their conditions, as these islands are legally NPU territory.
A.Co-operate
B.Keep it up as it is
C.Put boots on the ground
D.Withdraw

>B.Keep it up as it is

>C.Put boots on the ground
let's go jungle massacre, because we have no knowledge of the terrain! woohoo

>A.Co-operate
As long as they're the ones to bleed on the ground we can provide them with some air support.

B

Rolled 37 (1d100)

We'll continue our current campaign...

a

After a total of 3 months of bombardment, the loss of 3 planes and 8 choppers,20 dead soldiers in total, the rebels have surrendered. The islands have been decimated, most of the locals have been killed, the jungles have been burned, the towns and villages - destroyed.
The NPU fleet is underway. The government in Smaktun demands we give control over the islands now and that a certain sum of reparations be paid for the damage we've caused - it's not all that much money in total, it would roughly cover the cost of the aircraft we lost in the operation.
A.Take the islands for ourselves
B.Hand over the islands, but no reparations
C.Agree to their terms

HAHAHAHA so you fund pirates again?
>D.Take the islands for ourselves and no reparations

A

>B.Hand over the islands, but no reparations

>A.Take the islands for ourselves
NPU will just fund pirates again.

>B.Hand over the islands, but no reparations
Mission accomplished. Now we pull out and assume everything just works out in our absence.

A
No need for NPU

this why should we pay when the rebels damaged so much of our assests

B

A

"The White Republic today annexes the Pajashian archipelago - its islands and waters are now under our control"
An outrage has been expressed from the NPU, whose government has denounced this action as illegal and aggressive. Opponents of the ruling government within our nation are also protesting this action.

Let's rebuild the islands that it can help our economy with it now rich soil. From the burned jungles.

>>F.Government & Laws

>D.Improve military
In face of this unreasonable & unprovoked agression we need to make our military great again. Only then can we defend our ancient territory and freedom from these cruel NPU-imperialists.

I'm not sure the NPU will be very understanding of this sudden concern for the people you voted for bombing earlier fellow councilor.

>C.Construction
Make the island an outpost against all NPU shenanigans

How about we improve our military next turn after we improve the islands to serve as a base to stop the evil NPU.

>F.Government & Laws

I guess "improve military" could be interpreted as the construction of military bases on the archipelago, thus "construction".
In other words, yeah sure.

C. Construction
Islands make them better in stopping the NPU

>>F.Government & Laws

We're building fortifications, naval bases and surveillance systems on the newly annexed islands and are posting a part of our fleet there at all times, along with a garrison.
The SA and KE have not commented on these recent events. We expect the space station will be operational in the next four years now.
Trade with the NPU has suffered - no special tariffs have been implemented, but rather NPU businesses have taken to working with other nations instead.

>D.Improve military
The NPU is deliberately destabilising international economy with their unjustified acts and blatant provocation. We must rebuild our depleted military so that we can stand up to this relentless barrage of attacks upon our interests.

I suggest we provide training and weaponry to moderate & democratic forces in the region, starting with the inhabitants of the archipelago that recently exercised their right of selfdetermination to join our fold.

>F.Government & Laws

>F.Government & Laws
If we're going with F, let's try to stability the country. Make them see the bright side of taking the islands with some propaganda

It's 1219 now and the upcoming presidential elections are in focus.
There are four viable candidates
>The current Vice-President is an experienced establishment insider, conservative technocrat Tygen Huds - he would more or less continue the same external policy as we have now, which is seeing increased deployment in the Paj Ocean
>Liberal Councilman Joen Peier wants to secure peace and wants our troops to withdraw from the Pajashian archipelago and to reduce international tensions
>Independent Congressman Rog Boul wants to see less military spending in general and an avoidance of military conflict and a focus on pursuing trade
>Engar Vilkers, former Governor-General of North Eyerdar, wants to pursue an aggressive foreign policy, an expansion of our military and our establishment as undisputed world superpower - he warns of threats both within and without and the need for decisive action

>>Engar Vilkers
Are we voting who we want to back?

>The current Vice-President is an experienced establishment insider, conservative technocrat Tygen Huds - he would more or less continue the same external policy as we have now, which is seeing increased deployment in the Paj Ocean

Right, forgot to mention - the players represent the politicians, so you must decide on who to back. The people's will is a different thing, but the establishment's backing can help a lot in a campaign.

Engar Vilkers

The establishment is somewhat split between backing Huds and Vickers. There's 4 months until the election, let's see how the 1st one goes.
Give me 4 rolls, 1 for each candidate to reprisent their performance. Establishment-backed candidates have lowered DCs

Rolled 60 (1d100)

Rolling for Vilkers

Rolled 36 (1d100)

Rolled 76 (1d100)

Rolled 80 (1d100)

So bulgar are we rolling in the order the candidates apper? Or what?

If we assume the roll for Vilkers is for Vilkers and the blank rolls are from top to bottom then Rog Boul seems to be the winner.

In the order I put them in, if you were to pick it could lead to confusion.

Peier's dropped out after embarassing himself in the first debate and now it's down to Huds, Boul and Vilkers. Vilkers has taken the lead in preliminary polls, at 25% while Huds and Boul are both neck and neck at around 20%. Many are still undecided.
Still, nothing is completely certain. Huds has the largest campaign and the most funds and still stands a chance, while international developments could lead to opinions swaying in any direction.
Currently, major campaign promises are:
>Huds - preserve order, protect the peace, progress in all places - a focus on space exploration
>Boul - peace for us and peace for the world, swords into ploughshares and a better economic outlook for everyone
>Vilkers - glory will be ours, our enemies will fear us, our allies will respect us and our military
A.Back Vilkers with everything
B.Back Huds with everything
C.Back Huds and Vilkers
D.Just make sure whoever gets in there can be controlled

>D.Just make sure whoever gets in there can be controlled

>A.Back Vilkers with everything
I'm going with Vilkers here
