Favorite chapter, worst helmet

Why the fuck do they have the beaked helmets? I love them and I'm aware not all of them use them, but it looks so stupid

Should clarify I love the chapter itself, not the helmets

It's an older type of armor, the generation before the type most commonly seen on Space Marines. According to the Deathwatch RPG, this version of the armor has plates that fit together very well, allowing for better range of movement and quieter operation. To most Astartes, that's not a big deal, as they want to have a big clompy intimidating approach. Raven Guard like to use ambushes and sneak attacks; the quieter armor suits their style of warfare quite well, and they have more of the older suits than most chapters.

I dunno why they have the beekee helmet on that particular mark of armor; it's how Space Marines were drawn all the way back in 1st Edition.

>why do the ravens have beaks

Does it have to be that literal?

Well, symbolism is a big part of what the Space Marines are. I don't doubt that the Raven Guard wear Corvus helmets precisely because it evokes that raptor imagery.

There symbolism, then there's hitting someone in the head with a hammer. Just look at everything Space Wolf, if it doesn't have the words wolf; wolves, fang, claw etc. it has a wolf head on it, maybe even both. It's ridiculous, but this is 40k so it pretty much is the standard.

Yeah, so why are you surprised?

I read somewhere that that particular mark of helmet has a lot of sensor gear in the beak, so the Raven Guard like it for their surprise attacks

I won't argue that the Wolves take it too far, but I don't think a Chapter called the Raven Guard wearing helmets shaped somewhat like a bird's head is in the same ballpark.

Also, it is pretty much the job of Space Marines to hit people in the head with a hammer, so...

I love the beakie helmet. It deflects hits better than a flat surface, and you can ram your opponent's face in with it.

Hell it even makes you look sleek and fashionable! Don't you know that Sisters love the metrosexual look?

If I was a space marine and had my pick of helmets I would grab the beakie helmet every time.

>not picking superior MkIV helmet

Maximus every time. Though, I have to clarify that I mean the FW version, not the GW 'blowjob-hole' version.

I do kind of want to see more Raven Guard specific characters, but if Shadow Captain Solaq is anything to go by they'll do more bird face helmets and other silliness. I'm just saying they could make designs for chapters and not be so on the nose with the designs and names.

Speaking of which was the Captain in that short lived solaq strike force box given special rules or is it just a fancy captain model?

>I dunno why they have the beekee helmet

the nose cone has alot of sensors

Literally based off a type of knight helmet. Are all 40k players retarded?

>Why the fuck do they have the beaked helmets?
several reasons

1. they're birdmarines
2. they have a large stock of older mark power armor thanks to Kiavahr
3. mk6 has extra sensory gear which is useful for their method of warfare
4. space marines are knights in space, and use space bascinets

Why does that helmet have a beak ?

Solaq's helmet is terrible independent of Chapter, IMO. Looks bad in any colour scheme.

to direct blows away from the face, I imagine

Cones are strong shapes.

This Also when anything hits a surface, the actual power is in the force perpendicular to the surface's slope. A 'beak' makes it so that bullets and a lot of melee strikes don't get that power.

It's also called Mk VI CORVUS armor.

>Hating on Beakies

What's it like to live with such shit taste?

It's a way to honor their Primarch, Corvus Corax. Mk VI CORVUS armor was tested primarily by the Raven Guard, with a large amount of work done to make it silent, efficient, and having more sensors.

It's more stylish I'll give you that, but the beakie still provide more deflection.

Someone mentioned that the extra space in the beak is also to house extra sensors, but there's no reason why it couldn't just be some extra metal between my face and that tyranid.

>hating on the best helmet in 40k.

>not liking beak helm

>hating on beakie

Literally newfag scum. Corvus beakie helmets are the best thing about Space Marines, because unlike all the other helmets for Space marines, they are actually ORIGINAL for Sci Fi and are based upon the Hounskull helmets of the 14th century.

Standard Space Marine helmets look really dumb to me, too. I'd much rather Mark IV be the standard.

I always thought the beaks were to house additional breathing apparatus due to RGs failing organs?

I wish GW would just retcon aquila armor from even existing. Corvus looks so much better, is completely original and looks unique (rare as fuck for 40k), and meanwhile aquila just looks like a cheap Darth Vader knockoff.

>they are actually ORIGINAL for Sci Fi
It's a conical faceplate, dude. Not the next great idea that's going to reinvigorate the entire genre of sci fi...

Name another major science fiction franchise that features space hounskulls.

this
Think of sloped armour on tanks

Why the fuck does it matter if it's original? It's a fucking faceplate.

It's not going to save a struggling genre of fiction.

It's unique. It looks much better than the sad attempt to copy Darth Vader. Or the sad attempt to copy Stormtroopers.

This is fucking GW. Be thankful their geneseed doesn't turn them into literal ravens.

>hating on beakie helmets

Sad sad man.

>Struggling
Have you been literally anywhere near a cinema/clothes store/billboard/outside of your own house? Sci-fi has been fucking saturated with the rise of capeshit.
