Mecha Mercs Skirmish (Hanger Thread)

youtube.com/watch?v=amCab72-6zE&index=2&list=PLGO1qX_1g9_rT7tGrPScZFiXG6rQC9dAZ

For decades the International Forum has helped maintain a tenuous peace between the great powers of the world, but that peace is crumbling. What began as a conflict over resources in the Great Interior Desert escalated into a full blown war between those who backed the IF and those who would reject it. Multiple nations across the eastern border of the desert have rejected the authority of the IF Security Council and a task force of Peace Keepers has been mobilised to put down this alliance of rogue nations. Meanwhile the powerful Republic of Zanvra continues to antagonise and undermine the IF. As the fires of war spread rapidly across the desert secret cabals engage in a shadow war to tip the balance of power in their interests.

In the middle of all this stands the Caramel Camel Corps; an eccentric band of mercenaries caught at the crossroads of history…

…Welcome back Pilot.

Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.

This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.

Right now the game has returned from a long hiatus and I will be accepting up to 20 active players.

Priority will be given to players who participated previously but there should still be plenty of slots for newcomers.

I've made a few changes to both the tactical and meta layer of the game.

Due to the strain of processing too many active players at the same time I have decided to put a limit of no more than 10 mecha for each mission and run more smaller missions instead of one large one. In this way I hope to allow more players to participate.

The game will now progress in "Campaign Turns". Each turn the Players will select missions and assign themselves to each one. The missions will then be run one after another, once all missions have been run the game will enter the hanger phase where everybody can spend their mission rewards on new equipment and the next round of missions can be selected.

Tactical Rules v1.6:
-Hard limit on drones, no more than 2 per mech.
-Stealth rules revamped. Detection now requires special equipment and is based on dice rolls.
-Minor balance tweaks for various stats, bonuses and company assets.

Finally to reduce the amount of book keeping I have to do it will be a player's responsibility to keep track of their inventory. I will only be tracking how much cred everybody has and the company support assets. Please do not abuse my trust. I will be very annoyed if I have to perform an audit.

Cable Guy: “Well it’s only been a week since we helped repel the invasion of Beskaosia but with everything that’s happened it feels like it’s been a lot longer. Funny how time flows… Anyway I’ve put together selection of new jobs for us. With the whole war going on there’s no shortage of combat deployments, but there are also some jobs that aren’t directly related to the desert. I’ve also received a few messages from various people.”

Mysterious Contractor: “The IF is not the force for good you think it is. With Zanvra preparing for war, the Security Council can no longer enforce international law effectively. Retribution for acting against them is no longer guaranteed. We encourage you to… explore alternative jobs on the market.”

Richard Irving: ”Yo Camel Corps! I know we’ve had our… differences in the past but one thing I know we have in common is our love for big fat stacks of cash. I have job for you; a filthy, dirty, sexy job that will make us both rich!”

>Guye Co. Industrial Sabotage
Client: Dvorak
Mech Limit: 10

Description: Deploy to Merika and destroy key targets at a Guye Co. manufacturing plant.

Intel: Expect a handful of elite mech units supported by a few squads of combat vehicles. Be careful about moving through the surrounding civilian areas, the local populace is quite… ornery. Mech Recovery is possible, salvage is not. Completing this mission will grant us more information about the technology behind the Cognis super-mech.

>cont

>Midas Range Territory Acquisition
Client: Some Independent town in the Midas Range
Mech Limit: 10

Description: Attack and secure the base of a local warlord. If we pull this off the base will belong to us and we will have a defensible location to use as a black site.

Intel: Expect plenty of rough terrain. The Warlord’s forces consist of ill equipped mecha supported by a few light vehicles, VTOLs and static base defences. Given the region it is possible that dangerous megafauna may show up on the battlefield. Mech recovery and salvage is possible only if the mission is successful.

>Destroy the YOLOs
Client: The Qadrus Armed Forces
Mech Limit: 10

Description: Droiqubar have deployed a new type of super heavy assault server called a YOLO. Nobody knows what that stands for. Troops in the field say it means: You Outta Look Out! QAF wants these vehicles destroyed before they can be used to bolster the Droiq advance on their defence lines.

Intel: The YOLOs themselves are large heavily armed and armoured assault servers. Unlike regular assault servers their weapons are more than just defensive. The YOLOs are accompanied by a few regular mecha squads. The Droiqs also have a VTOL squadron in the area acting as a quick reaction force. Mech recovery and salvage is possible.

Star in a Movie
Client: Nollywood
Mech Limit: 5
Description: A movie studio is filming a giant monster movie and needs a mech unit to perform some manoeuvres for the camera. The shoot is taking place in the outer Exclusion Zone.
Intel: Obviously there will be no enemies, but this is the Exculsion Zone we’re talking about. You may run into some mega fauna but on the whole should be easy money.

>cont

>Steal Nuclear Materials
Client: Richard Irving
Mech Limit: 5

Description: Attack the radioactive materials processing facility in Odros and steal some enriched Uranium. Warning: This will seriously piss off the IF.

Intel: With the outbreak of the war the IF have had to reduce the amount of forces guarding the facility in Odros but recon reports that there is still an elite squad of peace keeper mecha on site. This is a highly illegal operation, payout will be very high but mech recovery and salvage will not be possible.

>Raid on a Zanvran Naval Base
Client: The IF Peace Keepers
Mech Limit: 10

Description: Perform a lightening raid on a Zanvran Naval base to reduce their ability to move their forces across the inland sea. Strike quickly and destroy key targets before exfiltration.

Intel: You will be in the heart of enemy territory. Expect combined arms forces to oppose you. Enemy presence will only increase over the course of the mission so time is of the essence. Allied warships in the area will be able to provide limited fire support based on the completion of secondary objectives. Mech recovery and salvage is not possible.

"Whoa whoa, wait, and hello? Uh, hold on, I need to re-organize, Gimme a second, I've got my list here somewhere..."

Yep Black Market hasn't changed yet so players can still buy from the last set.

Cable Guy: "Welcome aboard Borealis, report to the Chief for your complimentary pilot training. At the first level you can change your class for free so don't worry if you end up not liking the first one you choose."

Is power surge continuous or something that only happens when you use the equipment? Also is mecha cost based off black market price or regular price for things like the auto-loader?

Irving: "The Black Market's volatile, who knows what I'll have for you next time, maybe it'll be more of the same, maybe it'll be something completely different."

Power Surge is continuous. It's basically a debuff I made to balance AESR's equipment. The idea being that the power output of their stuff is so high it lights you up on sensors.

Speaking of AESR is the Trinity Drone limited to two or can it have three?

Limited to two like everything else I'm afraid. I designed it before the drone nerf so... yeah. If I made an exception for it then I'd have to make an exception for other drone types and I decided to draw the line at two.

Also made another typo in the play rules. Drone Control lets you issue commands to all your drones, not just one. I've corrected it in the player resources but I didn't notice it the first time I posted the new rules.

"What a shame. At least I've got enough for a mission or two for now. I'm really intrested in those cool alternative ammo, so if you get some, I'm deal. And those cool peacekeeper weapons. Boy, if only I had the money I would love to buy one and just sit in the garage tinkering with it to just see how it works. Not that I'll actually buy one or, heavens forbid, use it on the field. Peacekeeprs are scary."

This is Gunman, reporting for duty! from his phone

Don't worry, we won't sally for a while. Nice to see you Gunman.

Good to see you Goose. Nollywood Stars did sound like a good way to dip our feet back in.

Much better Cryptic. Welcome aboard.

Ah, another assault specialist. Excellent. I believe we almost lost dear Honeypot to a close range tank barrage, and giving Chuck some backup is wise.

As your commanding officer, I must point out that actually utilizing those munitions on any targets is in flagrant violation of several treaties by even thinking about ordering one.

As a fellow enthusiast I want five.

Good analysis there. The Midas Range offers many good things.

However, I am of the belief we should actually attempt the mission from Dvorak. Bad Times are coming, and I want the information about the heavy-mech system Sergei was piloting. There's some aberrant about the capabilities of a mech like that, and if a group is out there with the tech base to build more of 'em then I want to find out where they are.

And who they are.

And /why/.

We taking two missions this time around right? How is that going affect command on the ground? Have temporary platoon leaders if we don't have a CO?

Do we have any extra intel for the Guye Co. Industrial Sabotage? How many targets are we being asked to destroy?

What, you offering? Shiny badge in it for ya.

I'll do it since I saw just what the Cognis can do. But, I much rather be on that movie shoot I mean be in a movie and visit the Exclusion Zone all while getting paid.

"Are you sure? I mean, as far as I know, we are not in an IMMEDIATE threat, so I don't think we need to force ourselves against this shiny guyco mechs. And fighting weaker enemies might give us some training that we could surely need after such a break. Not to mwntion that this might get us some favor from locals, and a base if we succed."

Hey, this is a democracy. I was stating my opinion and you get yours. Sending a squad to take the base is a good mission, and I think we should do it.

So it's good to hear the opinion of the people, at least until you all start having stupid opinions and I over-rule you via fiat. The days of despotic terror is yet to come.

I imagine DVORAK can wait. He needs the building sabotaged, but did not tell us why.

If we take the Midian Range, we get out dust shaken out of the camel-mechs, and we can still get the GuyCo facility.

I would prefer it if we did steal enriched Uranium. I know Irving pays well, but we all know he's an armsdealer. I'm happy buying from him, but I'm not happy helping him get uranium for his customers. That's three miles and a suit-case from just nuking a city on our own.

"U-um, I-I don't h-have much in the way of ranged combat, or combat experience really, s-so VTOLs might be d-difficult for me to deal with in my f-first engaegement, b-but I wouldn't be alone. I-I will follow your leads..."

"Well sir, we're currently running missions in rotation, right? That being the case it should be possible for us newbies to get our eye in while capturing this base while some more experienced pilots take one of the tougher missions.

The base seems like a no-brainer, minimal expected resistance, good payoff and no chance to piss off anyone important (and vindictive.

As for the rest, I can't help but want to know more about this Cognis mech. There's something going on here and don't like the thought of operating in the dark, though I defer to you guys on which of those missions is the best idea."

"Well, I wasn't trying to do something, I was just telling you how I felt about your suggestion. Either way, at the end of the day, you're the superior, And I follow. I'm well aware of this."

"Judging from the talk between you two, I guess then I'll just ready up only for the warlord'd fort mission for now, because I don-t know where the hell everyone is and we need more time for people to show up."

I know I missed the twiter poll but /QST/ might be the better choice since it moves so slowly.

Fair point.

But I think /tg is our ancestral home? Maybe Cognis will reconsider.

I do like the the set up on /qst but the the three day sage limit is real deal breaker for me. It's mitigated a bit by how slowly the board moves but if the board moves too slow then things could get awkward seeing as you're only allowed a maximum of three threads per author.

We'll stick to /tg until further notice.

Commander Sparebits, Mr.Kerry, nice to see you in good health. Chief, you're looking lovely this evening.
Ah, missions, with intel even? Let's have a look.
>Guye Co Industrial sabotage
A challenge, but I belive we do need more information about the Cognis and its makers. This one is top priority in my book.
>Midas Range Territory Acquisition
A secondary base of operations would be nice. Do we know anything about the current occupant?
>Destroy the YOLOs
New server variant, hmm? Well, if we don't shut them down now, I'm sure we will need to later. Unfortunately, I fear we would be outgunned in this situation. Not a profitable venture.
>Star in a Movie
How fun would that be? Low risk, high reward. Even if the payout is low, the publicity will pay it back three-fold. I'd suggest sending a veteran and a couple of our recruits, let them show that the 3C has an excellent training regiment, and even our fresh-faced rookies have the chops.
>Steal Nuclear Materials
Wealth is nice, but this seems to be the opposite of what our company is all about. Mr. Kerry, would you keep an ear to this one, let us know if and when some group is foolish enough to take the contract? We may well want to run interference, cut them off at the pass, so to speak.
>Raid on a Zanvran Naval Base
The IF has been a reliable employer in the past, but this mission seems highly risky, and with our recent discovery as to their plans, I'm not sure I'd like to work for them anymore.

Voting for the Midas Range Territory Acquisition. Deploying and bringing stability will help enormously.

That said, if Quadrus feels they can't actually fight back against the Droiqubar forces, then we're obligated to fight.

Also, Boss, Sparebits... WE DID TELL OUR BOSSES, you know, the overarching company of mercenaries we joined, Noblesse Oblige, about the whole issue with orbital weapons and how it'll be good for our health to take contracts in IF warzones only where we'll be deploying WITH IF forces, where they're unlikely to deploy orbital weaponry against us?

what's the new symbol on the Advanced War Rifle?

Yup. It's just as well Alice pilots a stealth mech, because that thing is walking probable cause. I'd hate to be anywhere nearby when IF spots it.

>Movie shoot
I dunno about this one guys. Read the fine print. Exclusion Zone? I've heard some real spooky shit about that place.
suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/43396293/
If we do end up taking that job, count me out. I like my soul where it is thank you very much.

Cable Guy: "Just a little reminder, you can choose more than one mission. Once you guys have decided where you're gonna go let me know who's deploying where."

Everyone knows those stories are nonsense, the Exclusion Zone today is as much a political totem as it is an actual hazard. I'm not saying there aren't real dangers, but the filming is in the Outer zone.

Though, it is true that Sparebits has banned any pumpkin products from the cafeteria.

I'm feeling the Midas Range personally. I'll bring some Juggernaut mods on the Regulator and bring the law.

"Oh, really? Then I would like to do the midas range territory acquisition and the movie thing. Others I'm still a bit worried about it, but if we don't have enough people going in then I'm joining. Better be useful to the team, and that's what my mech is there for; be rounded out, survivable, and fill gaps."
the new stealth mechanic means I can use the recon drone to sniff out sneaky enemies, so there's that too

A measure - Pilot Wechuge - I would not have had to institute if you all quit insisting on piling up the pumpkin pies, the pumpkin seeds and the carved pumpkin faces into the cafeteria on every occassion.

Oh, sure, sure, the pumpkin bleeding pumpkin soup with pumpkin pies for feet and pumpking spaghetti for arms was /funny/ but I don't think the cafeta personell appreciates me panick-discharing my side-arm into their commodities. And that one one with the pumpkin head above the door way that fell when I opened it? Good lark, but the janitorial staff did not exactly appreciate cleaning up the fragmentation grenade debris nor did Mr. Kerry have much fun talking me out of showering the cafeteria in assault drones set to kill.

No pumpkin based products in the cafeteria of this base. You'll have your legumes, and you'll like 'em.

As far as being movie stars go I think you cut a dashin figure, and we send Honeypot, you and Kail on over along with our new people in tow and then all shall be well.

Huh? Oh, right yeah. I'll get around to sending that e-mail any day now. Yeah.

Bumping for the night. Looks like everyone's leaning towards the Midas Range Territory acquisition, followed by the movie shoot.

Midas range is my preference, but I'm happy to make up the numbers on any other mission. More money for me...if I live.

"Pardon me for asking... but has there been a 'negative history' between you and pumpkins?
No wait, I'm getting derailed. What I meant was that-"

"Oh sh-
Is this real? My- wha...
What on earth am I watching? This is just a movie right?"

>This is just a movie right?
I got the tape from a guy I met at a bar who got it from a different guy HE met at a bar, who got it from a shady quartermaster who copied it from some files he illegally salvaged from some intel tech.

If that doesn't prove it's legit, what does?

"That...s oddly specific.
Well.
Right. Regardless if big spooky pumpkin grriblies exist in that spooky place or not, we're just filming at the outskirts, right? So if something goes wrong, we can extract relatively easier than those poor guys in the film.
Oh, and I almost forgot of it's existance, but the experimental extraction vehicle is still an option. Very pricy, but still.

You know what? How the hell did we get something fancy like that in the first place?"

Poker game with a Zanvra General.

"...You know what, at this point I'd believe that video file up there if what you're saying is true."

>Huh? Oh, right yeah. I'll get around to sending that e-mail any day now. Yeah.
"Boss, if you don't I will. We can't let our bosses walk into a potential firing zone for orbital weaponry."

>If sparebits doesn't reply to this saying he's actually contacting our bosses and telling them, then I contact our bosses immediately and say I was deligated the task by Sparebits so that he doesn't get in trouble. I'll take the flak for the delays.

And this is how you lead.

Proper delegation of the important paperwork is essential to running a mercenary outfit.

Now where's Alice and Tragedy, we need to talk about a Hollywood model shoot and I have these fantastic ideas for marketing.

Indeed. With Kail here I make our unit count 11, so someone will have to sit out the Midas Range operation. We also have to divvy up assignments for stunt mech pilots since there's only five slots, though I have to agree in the strongest possible terms with the CO that anyone on that job with illegal gear should leave it at home. It'd be reeeally embarrassing to out ourselves like that.

Sorry, Mr. Kerry - my repair bill was /what/ from that last op? 33 CREDITS?!
33 CRED--- Excuse me, I just had a sudden vision of the fact that I could have bought three seperate mechs with that amount of credits.

Sell it, Mr. Kerry. Sell /all/ of it, Mr. Kerry.

And excuse me, I need to go grab the shovel and dig out my emergency funds from out under the cactus.

I'm not dead!

I've been meaning to ask, what's the limit on how many missions we can accept per campaign turn?

Eccentric?
Well I guess that's one way to put it.

Hey, if I forget how many mech pistols I have in my garage I'll take responsibility.
But I still get to be prickly about it.

Right, have I spent my paycheck yet?
I distinctly remember a fat one, I also remember not getting killed.

>Sending grumpy ass Horst in his pugilist with a few newbies to the movie shoot
Thats too good to pass up
We can force him to go right?

>Right, have I spent my paycheck yet?
According to the logs, no. Says here you got paid 29 creds on top of whatever you had already.

"Oh who the fuck ar- oh, new guy eh?
Welcome to the 3C!
They used to hand out camel fur jackets but I think we ran out, you can have mine, just ah...ignore the bullet holes and bloodstains, they'll buff right out"

Cable Guy: "That's just a bootleg copy of Perils of Ponderous Pumpkin Pillagers cut and edited to look like recon footage. Seriously guys all that talk of weird shit going on in the Exclusion Zone is just an urban legend."

Cable Guy: "Actually Exo Terra was looking for someone to field test their design. Thing is there aren't many people who would believe your aircraft can grab a mech while moving at mach 3 then launch itself and said mech to sub orbital heights."

You receive a reply:
"Duly noted, although I do wonder what your team has been doing that it would come across information of such a sensitive nature. I have also been hearing some unsettling rumours about a new equipment supplier your unit has been buying from. I truly hope that they really are just rumors"
-G. Duran

There is another message:
"Duran belongs to them, be careful what you tell him."

As many as the number of active players allows. You need not fill out the mech limits exactly.

For the sake of making it easier to keep track of stuff I'm gonna say no.

Doesn't look like it.
Here's the link to the last thread to be sure:

Well gee, thanks sir. Though I have the strangest feeling it's going to have more of both those things before long.

On an unrelated note, would you happen to know why the nametag on my bunk is written in wipe-away marker?

>As many as the number of active players allows. You need not fill out the mech limits exactly.
Good to know.

With Horst here I believe we now have 12 pilots. I reckon we should split our forces 8/4 between missions. That should give us a good chance in each, plus anyone else who shows up can still pick either one.

Thoughts?

I bought artful dodge, I guess the man-bear-tiger is a graceful dancer, too
No, I wouldn't, but uh, hey, if you start having a hard time sleeping for any reason you can snatch a bottle of my Neromian vintage from my hangar fridge.
[spoilers]Horst is either all-rounder(errant with the plethora of gear) or a raw damage shock and awe machine(four armed pugilist has the highest dps in the entire game) i actually think a pugilist set-up in a movie starring Horst will net good propaganda points because who doesn't wanna see a big rock-em-sock-em neck beat shit to scrap[/spoiler]

Ah, don't worry about that. It just takes Hassan a while to carve the wooden nameplates. We do have a few camel bobbleheads still in stock if you wanted one of those instead of that, hmm, jacket might not be the right word anymore.
I had nothing to do with that door-trap, and resent the implication. Also, The PumpKing was beautiful, and died too young.
I will happily represent the Camels for Nollywood, and help our recruits find their feet. Speaking of them,
Would either of you be eyeing a peace of equipment that you feel would add to the quality of your mech? If it's not overly costly, I will likelly purchase it for you.

That reminds me, if we're in charge of personal stock to ease logistics strain, does the company grab-bag pool get liquidated or what?

>Would either of you be eyeing a peace of equipment that you feel would add to the quality of your mech?
That's a mighty kind offer, but there's nothing I feel a desperate need for.

That being said, I'm regretting my choice of starter equipment. Would it be alright if I swapped my demo charge out for a tactical shield and just took the unclaimed demo charge that's in company storage? Waste not want not, right?

"What? Oh, n-no, no i'm fine. G-got to earn it after all, r-right?"

You might want to take him up on the offer even if just for a heavy mech pistol (or two). They're only 1 cred apiece, and it'd give you an option for dealing with those VTOLs you were worried about.

You can't earn anything if you die under equipped on your first sortie, take the man's cash!

"Oh! y-yes, of course... "
"Uh, I'll, uh... I'll take two of the pistols then t-to mount on the chest... I p-promise I'll pay you back!"

Might as well volunteer for my choice mission.
Horst wants to go to Bollywood

Seriously.
Horst in a pugilist fighting megafauna.
Let's make exclusion rim

"a-and I will go with whatever team needs me... I have n-no preferences..."

No chance of getting your motive systems hacked fighting megafauna! I'll volunteer for Nollywood if we need bodies to fill it but I'm ready to deploy on Midas...can't be worse than fighting three company sized waves of tanks right?

I was involved in a few skirmishes along the midas border back when I was in the 5th Neromian megacav, there's a reason the war council hasn't tried colonization lately....
...I'd rather not talk about my time there

>Makethescreamingstop.jpg

I like to think of that demo charge as our "rainy-day fireworks plan," just take this instead. It's tradition.
> Transfer Tac-Shield to Cryptic
Pay me back? No, no, you misunderstand, this isn't something you pay back. You pay it forward.
> Transfer 2xHeavy Mech Pistol to Borealis.

Hey boss can you post the current company warehouse?

Spare should keep track of that but I'll add a section dedicated to it when I write up the new spread sheet.

One day...

Are you continuing the story ark or are we just free ball?

Well, we did just pass on the mission to find out more about Cognis, but I'm sure there'll be other opportunities to get intel.

Also, our current employer seems to be in the IF's pocket, so we may want to start considering alternate career opportunities if we see them.

I hate how much better than the Railgun the Ion Cannon is.
Up to 36 damage, ignoring armor (not that it matters at that point) 3 chances to crit dealing enough damage to kill a component outright even without the Stilletto targeting suite, longer range, AND the GAMMA can fit two of those guns.

Funfact:
With a targeting suite and the marksman skill's called shot bonus firing two Ion cannons has a 95.33% cahnce to crit, killing a target outright.

Maybe make it limited ammo? It blows the capacitor after two shots?
