So what is the "normal" point game in KoW ? I'm not talking about "well, depends on your local meta bla bla", I mean the equivalent of 40k's 1500 equivalent. How close to it is a starter box ?
Carter Campbell
Here in South Africa we mostly play 2000 points. Starter box gives you about 500 points. The ogre starter box gives you about 1000 with lots of magics items thrown in.
Alexander Reed
The tournament scene is France is 1500 points, the starter box you have there is 640 points (without magic items)
Carson Diaz
So 2-3 boxes to start playing ? Any ideas if Brotherhood will get their own minis ?
David Hernandez
Yes, something like that but keep in mind that >you only need 50%+1 minis in each untis on a scenic base to play >one regiment (20 dudes) is cheaper than 2 troops (10 dudes)
Oliver Johnson
Yes. A starter box+ a couple of blisters and another unit or two should easily get you to 1500 points.
The Brotherhood probably won't in the near future. You can always get Chinacast brets or Fireforge games knights.
Huh. I am kind of curious about international markets for Kings of War, at least compared to WHFB. Amerifat here, Seattle area. I can barely find a game once a month. Kind of sucks since it's a big city.
Lucas Thomas
Frenchfag here, I can find pretty much a game every day, and I'm not in a big city.
Basically all the major national gaming events have dropped WHFB and have picked up KoW here.
William Perez
argentinafag here, local game club ran a 20+ player tournament las week
Evan Hernandez
Really jealous. Granted, European countries are the size of American states so I'm just in the wrong place apparently.
Thomas Powell
Well as I said, it's like that in my relatively small city, who know how it is in a large city. Maybe KoW is small in the US, I don't remember America being big in WHFB either.
Cameron Rivera
>You scoundrel, when I saw that pic I thought KoW Historicals had arrived.
Ethan Wilson
>America being big in WHFB Evaporated almost overnight when the whole Age of Sigmar thing went down.
You used to be able to get a game in nearly any LGS anywhere. Basically if an LGS couldn't operate somewhere, there weren't many players anyway. I'm actually in a smaller town nearby, and even our tiny Mall had a Games Workshop store there for about a decade. 40k outnumbered WHFB games 3:1 But, what allows USA LGS to operate though is MtG. Outnumbers 40k anywhere 10:1 excepting actual Games Workshop stores.
Adrian Long
When your country has a smaller population density, you end up getting fucked for finding games, sorry.
Tyler Taylor
The sad thing about that is that space is so limited.
I've known rural wargamers to have cavernous sheds that they could never hope to fill with wargaming crap. conversely they need to drive a few hours to get a game in though.
Eli Peterson
>Population density Lol. Top left cluster.
Four factors: >Some 9th Age holdouts >Warmahordes pulled away players while WHFB was dying >Maluifaux/Infinity having a small foothold... and pulling more players >X-Wing pulled away as many people as it drew in, and takes up all the non-MtG space now.
We got pretty splintered here, but ex-WHFB players are very, very, very, VERY slowly coming out of the woodwork.
KoW 2e was too little too late to keep us from splintering.
Ryder Gomez
Actually, now that I think about it, the REAL problem with gaming in the Seattle region is that, if you'll notice it's oriented in a vertical strip, traveling from the north end to the south end: ~20-40$ round trip, and at 2-3+ hours.
Seattle itself might as well be a dividing mountain.
Tyler Collins
Chileanfag reporting.
There is no big scene here, but most WHFB players have played KoW, have it as second game or have changed fully to KoW.
Jayden Long
>tfw in that north texas population rash
I like how Lewisville Lake is a visible green dot. Fuck that lake. It splits me off from the rest of civlization.
Bentley Morales
I meant 2-3 starter sets - they're around 600 points each, aren't they ?
Jaxson Adams
They don't contain any heroes, though, which are very important.
Joshua Reed
So two starter boxes, a hero and a what, a box of crossbowmen to start ?
John Smith
Heroes are mostly picked as a source of inspiring, and you pretty much want everything covered by inspiring at all times. The vague rule of thumb is one per 500 points, but obviously depends on your composition and battle plan.
Lincoln Barnes
I would argue that they are closer to 1000 points. It depends on which one you are looking at of course. And getting two starter sets isn't always strategically optimal, especially with mega army sets being available among other things.
Gabriel Kelly
As that other guy said one hero per 500 points is nice. You can get one starter set. two units, and three guys in blisters as a good start. You can of course buy the official models, or get figures from other company. Companies like Perry and Reaper have legitimately cheaper options than Mantic, and arguably better looking ones too.
Carter Ramirez
>heroes I just made a couple of extra fancy models from existing troops and ran those.
Not like I needed 20 troops to the regiment. I can spare 1 or 2 for some heroes. Enough extras on sprues I could really fancy them up.
Nathan Hill
I use reaper bones as heroes and to buff up model counts. I'm generally getting 2 regiments out of a box of 20 dudes, plus some fillers and a couple close equivalents
Brandon Evans
Having an idea of making a Trident Kingdoms army based on Murlocs. Otherthan the reaper fish people, are there any other miniature store that sells fishmen akin to murlocs? is it easier to make then up?
Benjamin Taylor
Hey, Im looking to pick up a box of Gargoyles for my Chaos army. How are the sculpts? Do they suffer from GW man face?
Isaac Sanchez
Not really man faces, but the sculpts suffer from soft detail and mold lines in annoying places.
Still, they're decent enough for the price and you can increase the variation by using hot water and bending the tails or wings. And they are fantastic chaff/interference.
Gabriel Sullivan
Im honestly more concerned with how they look than how they function, but I know they make for good speed bumps and Artillery hunters. I just dont want a bunch of flying drag queens
David Nguyen
Spanishfag here, we are divided between old hammer, KoW and 9th age, but it seems to be winning KoW in the tournie scene.
Bentley Green
Not exactly KoW, but new model previews for Warpath have been released.
Camden Reed

Aaron King

Adrian Perry

David Hall
here in africa, i can get a game every gaming night weekly against a new player for about 3 months ... everyone dropped fantasy for KoW ... there must be about 3 ageofshitmar players in the entire country
Daniel Jackson
Nice. Reminds me of the old 54mm Arco-Flaggelant from GW, but more buff and without the tendrils.
Carter Barnes
Looks very 2000AD.
Nicholas Miller
>average fa/tg/uy personal hygiene
Angel Cox
The faces don't really look bad. They are certainly better than GW's Furies.
Sebastian Anderson
You could easily stretch that army to double it's size thanks to multi-basing. If you do a good job you can buy 2 boxes and make a fully army without it looking off.
Elijah Flores
It still amazes me when people call certain GW models like the taurox 2/10 pieces of shit when there is stuff like this coming out.
Mantic is so inconsistent in their releases that I would never trust them with my money before I see the finished models.
The soldier looks pretty good outside of the pose though, wish it was more dynamic.
These guys look good too.
Back to shitty Mantic sculpts...
Leo Edwards
I like them. Reminds me of 80's anime meets the Terminator.
Ian Williams
Has anyone painted up any Abyss stuff in a different color scheme?
The demonic red isn't bad, but just seems so cliché to me.
Justin Martin
I'm working on bright yellow demons. No pics yet, though.
Jose Parker
Awesome to hear, I cant wait to get some
Jordan Nelson
A whole army in bright yellow?
You are a better man than I.
Grayson Howard
based africa
Zachary Moore
Just hope the rules are up to scratch. Warpath is getting more updates, but I have little hope for Firefight
Brody Mitchell
Soo... I've been toying with the idea of taking Herja of the Fallen.
def 6 individual flyer, with a neat little rule to maybe resurrect an infantry unit. 260 points though...
Thoughts?
Tyler Powell
Matters little, Backed Warpath, but I like Deadzone well enough that I don't care if Warpath is good or not, just want the figures for Deadzone really.
Carson Carter
Besides, there's other games you can use the minis with easily.
Christian Cruz
That sounds like a really fun idea! If you manage to get it started you absolutely most post your units.
Jackson Price
Would make for a cool spawn/ fallen Beast I suppose.
Kevin Ramirez
>Dat CAD Stuff. Ew. No soul.
Mason Stewart
CAD shit okay, but I saw far worse.
Samuel Roberts
Since its my first time painting a large regimental force I decided to go with a lot of heroes and monsters backing up my limited number troops. How would this hold for a beginners 1000 points?
Elohi regiment Elohi Regiment Spear phalanx regiment Sword & Shield Regiment Phoenix Warwizard Warwizard Bearer of the holy icon
Zachary King
I'm quite invested in Warpath being good. The slow updates (espiecally on Firefight) are making me feel like I backed the wrong horse.
Maybe Mantic should have just stuck to their guns and made Warpath, then done Firefight down the line. Now even if I like the final rules I'm going to have the problem of 'Which rule set do I introduce people to?'. I think there's going to be brand confusion.
Also, Warpath seems to be what they really want to do, and KoW has shown us that multibasing can be fun outside of historicals.
Daniel Miller
I don't think that she, like many of the name characters, are worth it at anything but high point or narrative games. I am sure that you could use Valkia as Herja however, it seems like an ideal fit.
Thomas Cruz
I am pretty sure that everything made by Mantic, GW, CB, Wyrd, PP, and more is entirely CAD these days. If only Cipher Studios was still alive.
Mason Clark
Very reasonable list. The regiments can make great anvils while the elohi are guaranteed hammers. You of course will want more foot troops for anything beyond 1000 points.
Logan Jackson
I´m mostly familiar with GW´s models but based on your pic I thought Pink Horrors might be a good start? Sculpt some fins, gills and bulging eyes on them and remove any flames or additional arms? I toyed with the idea of a Deep Ones based Trident Kingdoms army. I was gonna sculpt said details plus some of those creepy deep sea fish lanterns on Bloodletters (Placoderms) River Trolls (Depth Horrors) and the Maggoth Lord mount (Coral Giant). Then again I love converting my own stuff. Sometimes I actually lose interest in a faction once it gets "official" models.
Isaiah Russell
Thought about this myself recently, but for a mass skirmish and not for KoW. Deep Wars and that other game have a few creatures and one fishman. Everything else is just reaper. It probably won't work as a pure murloc army, but you coul add some other watermobs from WoW. Another option would be to heavily convert skins, as in modelling every single head...
Sebastian Perez
Forgot to mention the rafm deep ones which are ok, but nothing you want a whole kow army made of.
Luke Hernandez
My fellow SAfag. Im surprised to hear that you can even find games of non Warhammer/warmahordes, though i suppose the small core of fantasy players would naturally migrate to KoW after AoS hit the shelves. What neck of the woods do you play in?
Gabriel Johnson
not all of us are so based. Out here in the boonies of africa i struggle to even find people who've heard of wargaming let alone seen it being played. And trying to pitch the game to people is fucking tough when they realise how much they need to pay to play when compared to DnD or MtG Small town africa is suffering
Lincoln Peterson
bump
Charles Hughes
Malifaux - Silurids are pretty much your pic with normal-sized eyes. Also Gupps.
Wyatt Hernandez
It's hard to find very specific things that you can have 20+ models of in one army without breaking the bank and having a million identical twins. Reaper's Tiik make good depth horrors, and they are pushing out more Lovecraftian stuff thankfully. Maybe the KoW skirmish deal(If that ever hits) could handle that better.
