I LIKE THIS THREAD, FELLOW SUBJECTS TO THE EMPEROR.

Reposting because it involves robooty and is difficult for people like me who aren't well versed in it.

Basically I'm going to be getting my hands on an obscure garage kit soon, a Dimension Diver/Daibadi Aphrodite A color resin type. A few other dudes are also interested in having one, but this seems so rare that the one I happened to snag seems to be the last one that could generally be found easily at all.

Basically, what I and those guys would like to do is find a means to recast the models' parts so that everyone can get the model rather than there being just the one. If anyone knows of a service or group that could help, or if you're up for it (hopefully without destroying the base model!), please do help out. Are you taking casting commissions, or do you know someone who does? If so, multiple people may be interested.

The model is articulated and uses separately purchased joints, if that's important.

PRAISE JOHNNY!!!

hello ladies, who's ready to get infected

ass shot for those of you so inclined

You will need to post some pictures of the parts, depending on how it assembles, it might not be recastable. If it builds like a gundam you should be in the clear. Also, check the previous thread, an user dropped the pdf for recasting

Where do i get my self a Johnny?
I feel like i should get one to add to my Den.
Speaking of, Should i Post Said Den? or my Workshop/Living Area/storage Space? As well as my wips?

I saw it, I wanted to post thanks for all of the support last thread, but I also forgot that like I had initially forgotten to mention the model was articulated.

It does seem to mostly be large parts. I thought peg holes would be the main problem. More hollow parts could also offer a challenge.

lucked into a snazzy vostroyan firstborn army. Brain storming what sort of color scheme they should get, as the 'canon' red and bronze is much too similar to my skitarii.

Any ideas?

blue and silver, maybe

Does anyone know how to do water effects? I am going to be making an 40k ork army that is entirely boyz surfing, using warbike rules.

make a tiny little coil of poop and put it on the guy's shoulder, right under the demon.

No one needs to give you permission. This comment should have just had your den and then you should have been posting your WIP in WIP already because that is the entire point, not TELLING us about it.

Seconded. That's what I'm planning on doing for mine. Purple looks alright too.

Awesome. Those are some of the best models in 40k.
I've seen 'em done in a drab sort of green and brown, but the classic red and bronze/gold is, well, classic for a reason.
Blue and silver looks great, and though I've never tried it, I think a black + steel scheme could look pretty good.

Frustrated Frostgrave user from last thread. I finished assembling the soldiers from the box tonight and they'll be prepped for painting in the coming days. It was definitely a learning experience.

How would you make a good tank camo for your IG tanks with this type of terrain? I need to know so I can do a good color scheme to my tanks.

Flock and green stuff.

This is slightly converted and not mine, but where is the base model from? Never seen this autarch before. I'm bidwarring for one, so that's why I'm wondering.

I like everything up to the red daemon on his shoulder.
Maybe its the choice of color, but it just feels out of place.

Those models actually look pretty good in plastic. I always presumed they where mono-posed metal with a horrible paintjob. Glad you proved me wrong!

The base is from the Autarch with Fusion gun that has been taken out of production. If your lucky, you can get one on eBay. The sword is your typical Eldar sword kit-bashed with a blade from the Empire Bright Wizard. Helm and pistol is from another kit. Flags are from Prince Yriel.
Hope this helps.

Have had this unit "almost done" on the shelves for a good 2 months now. I was just lazy I guess. Anyways, here they are in a somewhat finished state. Since the picture I have put some varnish on them and will give the bases some tufts and also, will do some glowy runes on the head.

I think it goes deeper, here's the auction picture for the same sculpt. The only difference from the conversion is that he greenstuffed the slate into a fulll sized rock and changed the sword from a chainsword to a power sword. The pose is also very slightly different to that of the old fusion gun autarch.

you dont like the colour, or the nurgling in general?
for the colour, i wanted him to stand out from my blightkings so i gave him a paler white and red look, like he had more of some kind of blood disease then the traditional green.

if it's the nurgling, i run a nurgling-heavy force so most of my other units have one or two fucking around on them

Banes?

Yes, will be playing them with the new Warcaster Agathea, think it will be a descent enough combination.
I had the old 35p limited ed box set lying around, and haven't actually touched anything in it until now.

Well, a bit of both. He just seems out of character. The color doesn't help with this, and I feel that for a detail that´s supposed to draw the viewers attention, he is not as well painted as the rest of the miniature. If you insist on doing a red little guy on the shoulder, you need to make him stand out in terms of shades and highlights a bit more. a pair of glowy eyes would help, and NOT using a green tongue.

Hey, might even be the same sword, just cut of right before the teeth starts.

yeah true enough i suppose, thanks

...

What paints should I use? Since I guess that's a fairly old picture and that the old paints were a bit different from the new ones.

caliban green (drybrushed with elysian green)
zameshi desert (very light drybrush of ushabti bone)
abaddon black (drybrushed with dawnstone)

then do a pin-wash

or at least that's what I do to replicate it

Getting closer. The goal is to have this on the table Thursday afternoon--that's my usual gaming gig with my friends.

Definitely open to suggestions here. Doing my best to learn painting tricks, but still teaching myself as I go.

Also needs a name...

Thanks user.

My next couple of projects. One Looted Wagon, and one M3-Lee-turned-Battlewagon.

The eye needs an angry glow, could've used a LED ideally but I'm a bit late with that I suppose.

Yeah, I'm gonna try to paint some reflected red light on the eyebrow/toof next to the big eye.

My first try at thousand sons

Looking good. I just bought a start collecting CSM box, and I've got the thousand sons upgrade pack on order.

>post heresy
did you sons of magnus learn nothing at Nikea

Servants of the corpse will be flayed and burned on sight.

The assorted wizards and specialists are mono-pose metal, but the box of soldiers (and cultists) are all plastic body/arms/head combos. They've got Gnolls coming out soon, who will have a similar box of plastics.

You gon' git hurt boy

Come at me bro

How about Da git Masha for a name?

WE ARE ALREADY 'AT' YOU, HERETIC

How goes the successor chapters business? Filthy pups

Okay, so while sounding like a turboscrub, can someone explain to me this whole Johnny business? I just see it every once in a while on the catalog and it started to bug me

Lurk more

But I want to be spoonfed

(courtesy of my friend since he collects wolves and I dont)

for russ

Glaze the blue armor parts to make the transitions less harsh.

It's an old RT marine model that people are going mad for because it looks goofy as fuck. The thread has been enjoying posting up pictures of their Johnnys and whatever paintjob they gave them.

Most warhammer 40k fans on Veeky Forums love the old rogue trader models in general but Brother Craigh a.k.a. Johnny became a meme.

It's also a rare as fuck miniature so it's kind of a badge of honor to have a well painted one in the WIP header.

They cast up fairly well. You might have to dremel them out a bit but anyone who works with resin a lot is used to that sort of thing.

Workstations are typically accepted in WIP, go for it.

Looking good mate

trying a conversion on durthu
does the spear look good enough?

1/2
This is my first ever time painting models, I followed the Archaon painting tutorials for the Chaos Warriors on YouTube.

What does Veeky Forums think?

2/2

Consider holding the mini up to your face and taking a selfie to improve image quality.

Otherwise, can't make out much.

Dont listen to the other guy, its the limited edition 2006 autarch from the old eldar battleforce box or whatever it was called...
The sword is a converted from, as other guy said, bright wizard or something
Backbanners are regular banners with scultped details, not yriel's banners. These have been sculpted with Craftworld Mymeara icon.

wrong

I meant the banners of the converted pic, not the one I sent

...

Nice picture of your fingers I guess? Put the mini down and nobody has to get hurt

I want to paint my Leviathan dreadnought to match mostly match this guy's color. I don't want to do the Balthasar gold/Earthshade I usually do for brass because that comes out very dark and real brass is bright and yellowish. What would be a good way to get a more accurate brass color?.
What would be a good way to match that darker tone that covers the body's plating?

To be fair, they share the same body, with the exception of helmet and sword, so I wasn't completely of. But hey, nice knowing I'm not the nerdiest nerd on Veeky Forums.

Looks good, but, the shade looks like it was applied in excess, 'cause it's pooled a little in some places. Can be better to use less shade on the brush, if you want the area darker just do another thin layer

That's sea gray, royal purple and I think it's html bone but it might actually be slightly more yellow

I ask myself how people actually manage to take such shitty picture?
And don't be a dick and blame the "old mobile cam" or that the light was of, and that your granny just died and you got fresh tears on the lens. Anything below Parkinson's disease isn't acceptable as an excuse with pictures like these.
Is it to much to ask that you place a regular sheet of blank paper as a backdrop, place the miniature firmly on the table, and just take a second to actually get focus with your camera!
Stop harassing us with bad photos and you might actually get critique on the miniature.

phone photos have to be shit

it's the law

Blue and sliver sounds noice. No drab green, going for bright colors here.

Hmmmm, howzabout yellow? Donno what secondary color to pair with it though.

No it doesn't. Look, we don't demand professional photographs, but it would be nice if you could actually see what your judging, instead of getting eye-raped.

See, this is a phone shot, its not a pro-photo, but at least you can see what it is and what you give critique on.

>this is a phone shot
Nice try, I know DSLR when I see it.

>did you sons of magnus learn nothing at Nikea

No, but we got some inexpensive Swedish furniture.

2h into a Revell Easy kit X-wing; base is simple and possibly a placeholder and I want to put on some smoke marks on the wings

Obviously you don't, this is taken from my phone on my Tech-Priest Dominus.

Taken in a good angle, with good light, with a regular A4 paper, mounted on a glue-bottle with bluetack so that it gets a natural backdrop and floor to place the miniature.

my first time painting something 40k howd I do

ment for

>I want to put on some smoke marks on the wings

That's impossible, even for a computer!

>Where do i get my self a Johnny?

You can find them on eBay every once in a while. When I stumble across them, I usually post the eBay item number here.

>Okay, so while sounding like a turboscrub, can someone explain to me this whole Johnny business?
>I want to be spoonfed

Look at the attached image. This was an advertisement for First Edition beekees that appeared in White Dwarf 99. They're (mostly) named after the cast members of the old Adam West Batman TV serial: Brother (Adam) West, Brother (Burt) Ward, Brother (Burgess) Meredith, Captain (Julie) Newmar ... and Brother (Yvonne) Craig.

In the Blue 1990 Citadel Catalogue, they all get boring names (Bolter #10, Plasma Gun #2, Meltagun, etc.) and part numbers... except poor Brother Craig, who was absent that day. He's just a name on a flier, and doesn't really show up again anywhere. As intimated, that can make him pretty hard to track down.

Now, fast forward to a year or so ago. Some clevva lad grabbed a photo of Brother Craig (specifically, the one in the upper left of the OP, the "original" Johnny), and made a meme picture with him where it looks like he's having a conversation with his bolter's magazine - the same way the character Jonny 2x4 walks around talking to Plank on the TV show Ed Edd, and Eddy.

>[ Frostgrave ]
>The assorted wizards and specialists are mono-pose metal, but the box of soldiers (and cultists) are all plastic body/arms/head combos.

Those *do* look nice. They remind me a lot of the Empire Mercenaries/WHFB Free Company for use with Mordheim, but then ... the two games are *very* similar!

Made with:
>a folded sheet of paper
>a single lamp
>an old iPhone 4S because I haven't bothered buying a new one for private/hobby use

So, fuck whoever says you can't take at least decent pictures with a phone.

My first Seeker out of 35, so fast is the name of the game

I've tried a bright wash for the black scales (grey) so the scales would brighten a little and be different from the black belt.

How is it?
Maybe try a wash of the same colour as the skin, so it looks like you can see the skin under the scales and would make a better transition for places like the scales on the legs?

Other suggestions? Not all have scales, so I want something I can easily and quickly do on every seekers from now on.

You were the non-Hawk Lord guy that posted on the General yesterday, right?

You should make a better photo, I can't really see much.

>female wraithlord/knight

You have my attention.

My biggest problem is the light. How did you angle it? Even better make a quick ms paint diagram?

Looks serviceable, although I recommend you not use a late 19th century shutter camera for your pictures.

But I like the smell of burning powder

>mfw forgot the stylus for this fucking tablet at home
Enjoy my finger painting.

In simple words, I put the phone on the desk, shine the light directly over it at the mini and take a picture. If it's good enough for Johnny, it's good enough for /wip/.

Also, Johnny was supposed to be in the next post.

Hat could be more orky, I guess. You could try some weathering on the cables, because they look brand new compared to the rest of the model.

All in all a lovely work, user.

There he is! Thanks, I'm going to bid the shit out of this auction. Best looking Autarch model I've ever seen.

Its not magic, just place the model on a blank paper facing the window during day-time, and your set to go.

user wear I live there is no day time. Only the yellow ish light of a glow lamp.

Side note, how do you remove paint from plastic without using your first world magical products. (Simple green, detol, fairy dust, etc)

Isopropyl alcohol 96 proof and better and don't believe the guy saying you should heat it in a microwave.

Is it supposed to be easy to get the paint off the models after soaking in alcohol like that? I've tried it, and you still have to scrub like an absolute motherfucker.

I just stripped a rescue Predator that way. Paint came off easily enough, the primer needed some scrubbing with a toothbrush.

What about brake fluid?

Should work.

If I remember my Chemistry, you could try the Glycol based Dot 3 and 4 brake fluids. But only in a sealed container and with gloves and best wear a rebreather or gas mask with a biogas filter.

>Isopropyl alcohol 96
Is that pharmacy behind the counter alcohol?
