Changelog for 1.4 (slowing down, as you see)
* If someone is taught magic by someone who has already mastered it, it only takes a decade to master fully.
* Temporally Lost drawback allows you to go even further back, if you want to.
* New 'Nearly Mortal' drawback.
* Clarifications of a few powers that came up in thread, notably enchanting.
Also attached, 0.5 of DLC
Changelog, 0.5
* Big changes as to how "Magic of the People" works. New options, such as inheritability, and, in particular, can now make the major form rarer than the minor form of a magic.
* Blessing of the People changed to be in line with Descendants, All in the Altered History CYOA. More expensive if limited to just humans and allies.
* Taki race added
* Ancient World and Random World optons added.
* Vampire/Werebeast powers clarified further
To Do (At minimum):
1. Heroes of the Land options
2. Rebalance points (after 1 is finished)
Would you post the DLC also?
Who /Netherlord/ here? Best world, power and haters
As I've stated before, the fact that the main CYOA is 1.x means that I will respect existing builds as much as possible.
0.x version of the DLC still means "use with the understanding that values or elements may change dramatically"
...
/Beelzebub/ here, I'll get you next time
I'm finally getting off my ass and working on the sequel to Royal Guardian. I've got the overarching concept figured out, and a general setting of '200 years after the age of heroes'. I've got two things to figure out before I get into photoshop and start doing the full writing.
I want to include a lot more companions in this one, and some of them might be inspired by RG builds.
I also want to know if you guys have any ideas you'd like to see included. No promises on including them, but I might draw inspiration from them.
you sound like cartoon villain Beelzi
cool! Royal Guardian is one sexy-looking cyoa
Might as well just say that the Nearly Mortal drawback is +13 points and drop the part about how you "must have at least one level of Impervious and Temperature Tolerance".
Hmm... thinking maybe Dragon, and try to strike a mutually beneficial arrangement with the Alchemist. They can turn things to gold (without any stated limit), wealth gives me power, etc.
Keeper of Secrets
>Big comfy ass tower.
>Regular change of scenery.
>Best teleportation.
>Can bring friends if I want.
>Good reads. Could learn magic.
>Sometimes interesting stuff happens. No control over it though. Hmmm…
>But most of the time no one bothers me.
It's perfect.
Do volcanic eruptions, earthquakes etc count as weather patterns? I feel like there's an argument here.
In W40K, it's believed that the Emperor became an actual god-like being due to people believing he was a god.
Let's say I ruled over the entire world for a millenium, fathers had raised their sons knowing my name, their sons and grandsons had done the same. Let's say that over time people started believing I could do certain things or had certain properties. You mentioned last time that gods would be thought beings in your DLC, and that god emperor can trigger apeothesis. Hypothetically, would I get any abilities my people thought I had even if I didn't necessarily take on or complete God Emperor or Myth Maker?
>Spymaster (5P 6L 12I)
Most influential and indirectly powerful option
>Yaserla, Empress Naora (7P 6L 12I)
Best Kingdom suited for a Sect of spies loyal to the court. The Empress is brash and confident and would let me work without much intervening.
>Enduring Lifeforce III (3P)
>Wherever Needed I (4P)
>Superhuman Intelligence III (7P)
Youth and a long lifespan, supernatural intelligence and the ability to always flee to a safe location.
>Arts of Alchemy II (2I)
>Spy Network II (4I)
>Uncanny Sense II (6I)
>Operational Leeway II (8I)
>Power of the Mind II (10I)
>Seductive Form II (12I)
Lots of personal freedom, exceptional looks, psionic powers, alchemical skills, loyal spies and no one will ever take me by surprise.
>Chest of Gold (1L)
>Secret Hideout (2L)
>Corin Thenhall (4L)
>The Mask of Marks (6L)
A secret hideout, plenty of gold to finance some plans of my own, a band of mercenaries to hire and an assassin at my disposal.
>No drawbacks (those are ridiculous and I don't want to die when my charge dies, fuck that)
I will basically found the Dark Brotherhood in Yaserla. I have enough personal power that I am untouchable to an extent and can hold my own, but my real power is my extensive network of spies and assassins.
I plan to stay loyal to the Crown, but perhaps fate will make it so that I will turn against them. That is to be seen.
Shameless repost of my boring build.
In my opinion anyways, the biggest failure of RG was the high points low choices ratio. You could pick practically every power you were interested in, so the end choice kind of felt like who you served and how, forget the details.
I think it needs to be at least +20 for people to consider taking it, to be honest.
>and that god emperor can trigger apotheosis.
Ah no, it's only myth maker that (arguably) triggers apotheosis.
>tfw asked not to writefag
>Architect
I'm going to slit my throat and immediately become the god of my world.
Warper is allowed free access to my world, on the condition he takes a few nukes and drops them on the Netherlord.
Everyone else can come get a waifu designed for them too, but you'll have to risk the Warper being willing to transport them and they'll have 50% chance of dying which sucks. Maybe I can design a way around it.
Can I use my same character in the sequel?
This.
That said, I'm still pretty happy with how RG turned out and was received. Just needs some improvements on the next one.
Thanks!
I like it. It's not super crazy, sure, but it's a good plan. A league of assassins could also survive into the next era.
Tell you what. I'm not going to put it in there, but if you get Major Firedancer AND Major Stormsage, you can make volcanoes erupt with a bit of effort, provided they are dormant, rather than dead.
As for the second answer, Reality is Perception is what you're referring to? In that scenario, the problem is that you can't decouple their belief in your power from their belief in your nature. If you want their belief to influence what powers that you have, are you also willing to let it influence the kind of person you are?
That being said, at the end of the day if people want to wank something thematically cool AFTER they have completed a quest, I don't mind in the least. Post-Quest the "challenge" element is done, so if it follows the Rule of Cool, and seems to fit reasonably close to the setting, then go for it.
>As for the second answer, Reality is Perception is what you're referring to? In that scenario, the problem is that you can't decouple their belief in your power from their belief in your nature. Yeesh. To be honest I was hoping to take Reality Is Perception for random and cool events to take place. I'd really rather not be so closely intertwined to my sla--subjects.
Probably not. This one is a little different in goal. Maybe I can think of a way to allow people to include their RG build as a companion if they choose, but you the player will be a new build.
ok but I have to take enduring life right?
>Bodyguard
>Princess Sira (+4 Leadership)
I get to be closest to my future waifu
>Forbidden Love (+2 Leadership)
My future waifu falls in love with me
>Legendary Armor 11
>Legendary Weapon 10
>Enduring Life Force 7
>Superhuman Durability 4
>Superhuman Agility 2
>Superhuman Strength 0
Makes it so I easily defend my waifu and ensures we can live together for a long time
>Uncanny Senses 3
>Operational Leeway 1
>Power of Mind 0
Mostly sensing danger and just communication with others
>Of Great and Noblie Lineage 8
>Combat Veteran 7
>Escape Charm 6
>Inspiring Presence 5
>Historic Education 4
>Religious Education 3
>Magical Education 2
>Chest of Gold 1
>Secret Hideout 0
Safe place to teleport waifu if trouble happens, noble lineage so eventual marriage is ultra hard,
knowledge to help waifu govern.
eventual marriage isn't ultra hard*
For it to make any sense, yeah, probably.
So
>Vampires
>Without Weakness
>become a vampire
>have Regeneration 3
>go stand under the sun
What happens? What if someone throws a fireball at me? What's the difference between this, and not picking Without Weakness?
You can interpret it to not effect you in any way if you like; you just can't take *only* the power increase.
>want to include a lot more companions in this one
That sucks, RG always seemed to me like one of those CYOAs which shouldn't be overly focused on companions. You ARE someone's companion.
I dunno, maybe it's just me because i am pretty tired of dozens upon dozens of companions in every CYOA. Everyone feels they MUST jam in as much companions as possible into everything, but while it was fun in Space Regugee, by now it is getting really tiresome.
Hey kWay, I love the design and the cyoa, but I prefer something new.
Maybe something in the likes of Domain Master? I felt that the cyoa had a great sense of minion customization and I would like to see your take on it.
Still, I am sure that whatever you make will be great! Good to see you're not dead.
Nah, i always felt just couple of points short for ideal build, which is susually a good thing, but by no means it was too much points. Well the green ones maybe, as they were pretty useless to beging with.
The drawback costs at least 7 points to take, though, so it isn't a 20 point drawback. You gain 13 points, and if you drop 12 of them into Impervious you an reach level 2, so I doubt most people will be taking that drawback for builds that require extra levels in the physical powers.
I'm not saying I wouldn't take it, I actually like the drawback! I just want to be able to take it alongside Temporally Lost and The Dustbins of History, and having it at 20 points even though it doesn't truly grant 20 points makes it impossible to do so.
...
Yes, I humbly request that you stop taunting me with cute husbandos if I can't marry them.
You didn't separate Sky Skimmers and Homo florensis in 0.5
Eh, it depends on what kind of character you do. For me red powers felt useless.
New Arrival (free)
Male, Human, 17.
Beacon Academy(Vale), I will go to the biggest hotspot for fighting.
Semblance: Unstoppable.
Gifts: Memory(-20), Strength(-20), Agility(-20), Energy(-20), Intelligence(-10), Ferocity. Ultimate combination of gifts.
Equipment: Melee will be a battle ax with Dust mod(-150) pic related, and a Variable weapon that is a sniper rifle that turns into a two handed Claymore. The Variable is also collapsible(-450).
Items and Gear: Armor like pic as well(-100), the Scroll for free, Parachute and Grappling Hook(-150), Wilderness Gear(-50), Dust Charges(-50), Rebreather(-50).
I am a berserker from another world, and I want a good hunt.
As specified there, the sun "slows you down", which I interpret to weaken your strength and speed. fireballs would burn you as they would a normal human being (because upon becoming a vampire, you lost the effectiveness of non-reactor and Temperature Tolerance against fire). You could regenerate from the wounds normally, but you could definitely be killed via sufficient application of fire.
If you removed "without weakness", as above, except the sun would now actively burn you, you would be vulnerable to things like holy water (or the cultural equivalent), and holy magics in general.
...
But in a no- "without weakness" build, would the sun burn me faster than Regeneration III heals me? Is this one of those settings where vampires immediately catch flame and crumble to ash under the sun?
Agreed, with all your points.
Where is the penis option?
Ah, I think you are misunderstanding the drawback slightly, which means I may need to clarify the wording.
Let's say you buy Impervious 3 after taking that drawback. While the drawback is active, you are reduced to the *equivalent* of Impervious 1, but you still have your Impervious 3 perk. Once the drawback is inactive, Impervious 3 regains its full power.
In other words, you're not "losing" 7 points, you are temporarily losing access to those abilities.
As for your other issue, you can take as many drawbacks as you like, you just can't *gain* more than 40 points.
Maybe if you're talking about waifus but seeing a proper husbando is still like finding a unicorn so I'd rather not end this companion craze we're having.
I might try adding in the DLC but it probably changes a lot.
Reminder that all the cool necromancers go /scarabic/, yo!
Thanks for the catch.
Eh, I want to leave it somewhat flexible; it needs to be pretty bad though. I would say that you could have it so that Regeneration 3 would heal as fast as the sun hurt, but just enough. I'd strongly recommend taking Pain Control if you plan to do that; otherwise, man, that would be unpleasant.
please stop.
I wouldn't recommend revamping an existing build to include the DLC at this time, because the DLC is still in a state of potential flux.
...
>little girl choices.png
I am so disappointed every time a cyoa about little girls turns out not to be about daughterus...
And honestly, who REALLY wants to be a little girl anyway?
...
>kWay
No ideas at this time, kWay, but I do want to say you are a huge inspiration, and the quality of your CYOAs is astounding.
...
I feel that. Being the companion was core to RG, that's a good way to put it. I am trying the reverse with this one though, while keeping the concept of "you can change the world, but not alone." Hopefully it'll still catch your interest, if it helps, I'm trying to present them as characters to add to your imagined adventure rather than stat heavy waifus/husbandos.
Thanks! I actually like the Domain Master type of CYOA a lot, and have tried to do it myself, but I always end up overcomplicating it or ending up with exactly Domain Master. Maybe someday.
I have no idea what you mean. Every single name in that CYOA is marriage material, if you believe in yourself. Failing that, purchase Seductive Form II.
...
Have you considered a more generic version of Vampire Lord? Like one where you have to enslave or wipe out an empowered humanity as an Ugrish or Sylvan or whatever?
And is there a way to become one of the Hostile Species, or even one of those Environmental Horrors?
Aw thanks man, I appreciate that a lot. I have to regretfully admit I haven't gone through your current project here yet, since most of my CYOA time is on mobile and pdfs are a hassle. I will definitely check it out now though.
For the first, that's a good idea for a quest. I'll put it on the idea-pile; thanks.
For the second, not at this time. Would that be an option you'd make use of?
I'd be honored, of course, but don't feel obligated. I wasn't trying to flatter you into looking at my stuff!
Just to clarify you can't double the cost and make a magic "Major" anymore right? Cause Innate still has (Up to the level here) in its description.
Origin: Mutagen, Natural Weapon 2
Appearance: Athletic
Faction: Cult, Self Improvement 2.
Perks: Prime Subject, Expert, Training, Authority, Charisma, Safe house.
Drawbacks: Body Guard, Hated, Valuable, Traitor (Jim Boyce), Memory Loss(wont be around for this to matter so fuck it more points), Weakness(same thing as memory loss, but no one will know I even have one), Controlled, Limited, Uncanny(I have shape shifting 3 so it doesn't even matter). Total points gained 27.
Enemies: Fiona Dawley(just bitchy I stood her up on date night), John York(will chill after I am gone), Derek Hall(incompetent fucker will forget me in a week) I don't want to leave any major enemies that are a threat to normal people, hence the annoyance brigade.
Allies: Max(dog bro that's going to watch over the kid), Hannah Caldwell(My student that I am leaving my stuff with sense I finished raising her), Samuel Mason(mentor that sees me off and is going to watch over Hannah if she needs it).
Abilities: Strength 3, Agility 3, Endurance 2, Durability 3, Enhanced Senses 2, Reflexes 2, Natural Weapon 3, Immunity 3, Social Enhancer 1, Self Healing 3, Unarmed Mastery 3, Mental 2, Flight 2, Adaptability 3, Inheritable 3, Focus 3, Mind Reading 2, Predator 3, Self Improvement 2 for free from cult stuff, Shape shifting 3, Infection 3.
I will breed the next generation, I WILL BE THE FATHER OF THE NEW WORLD! Or the godfather sense Samuel is the uncle and I am not related to Hannah.
PICK A CYOA. EVERY user- you know what, fuck you. You know the drill. Every user who ever posted here has to make a build for it. Ignore the setting though because instead fate bends itself over backwards and all anons get to go back to high school. Have fun. Now tell me. WHICH CYOA DO YOU PICK?!
You can; keep reading to the "Major Magic of the People".
Unfortunately, I had to make the section more complex in order to accommodate possibilities like "Everyone has a bit of fire magic, but only a few are true fireball-slinging masters", which I thought was important.
I'm not happy with how potentially confusing that whole section is, though, and I'm trying to figure out how to simplify it.
instead of posting the question why don't you just make a actual cyoa dedicated to it. and her I amHigh School is irrelevant when I eat the fucking teacher and take their job and life. Are you proud of yourself now?
i pick that one slut one thats a pdf
Yes, I'd like to be one of the Hostile species or even one of those environmental dangers. Most of those would put you in an interesting position where you start out pretty strong compared to humanity but you're also limited in movement and numbers and at risk of being wiped out in the future.
"here. fucking shit keyboard.
Wow, are you actually retarded?
Rapture academy
You'll get this response every fucking time for the almost same question
Alright; I'll see if I can come up with an elegant way to work it in.
...
Heh, just thought of an interesting challenge where people post their builds and then the next user picks their quests (limited to ones they qualify for). Perhaps another time, once this thing is pretty settled.
Assuming I attain infinite cosmic power either way, my mortal avatar would probably be female most of the time. Why not?
Last I checked Quests were still optional, and there's no guarantee of success even if you do take one.
It's like the used car salesman of Drawbacks, "Buy this drawback and I'll throw in 20 points for FREE!!! contingent on the successful completion of an optional quest"
Ah, I see what you are saying.
Well, then, I'll just make it +20 and remove the requirements entirely. If anyone is hardcore and daring enough not to buy *any* physical protections or boosts whatsoever, then they deserve +20 points. And those who want to buy Impervious 4 can still benefit from the drawback as well.
High School CYOA.
I don't have to waste points on family and house options.
If you really want the points that badly there are builds which allow for an almost guaranteed success of quests. Temporarily Lost+ Dark God is one. Technophobe+ Lots of natural magic is also hella easy. You don't have to take risks if you don't mind doing boring shit.

Dark Accusation
I am the royal knight, I defend the king, royal family, capital and whole country. King will ride out to fight with enemies and it's my job to protect him and princess at the same time. All in the palace are handpicked by me, known enough to telepathically check if everything is safe, in need I can always "teleport" to them. But I am mainly kings general micromanaging troops with telepathy, having my Corin's outriders to harass enemies, Ali's ships to raid their sea trade, Willhelm with Alana working together to further our nation, keeping Sandra always on hands reach since I have no way of fighting myself . King will have far better fighter as bodyguard and a hundred more. And in the end the literal WHO tries to accuse me? Talk to my guard first, I have no time on this stupidity. Our nation will be safe and secure
Sounds like an easy way to Divination Major munchkin yourself an extra 20 points. Or simply magic all the danger away. Or become a vampire/ werebeast.
To what are you referring to?
Major Divination is not enough to make going 0 on all physical protections a non-daring choice.
But, yeah, the werewolf thing is a good point; I'll probably have that drawback disallow werewolf/vampire transformations until a quest is complete. (It thematically makes sense to limit that too; the quest *is* called Nearly Mortal after all)
was meant to respond to:
Actually, no, there's no need for that kind of restriction.
Being a werewolf or a vampire isn't actually going to help as long as the drawback is active, because it doesn't "stack" with your existing defenses. So, it wouldn't really be a problem, I don't believe. The drawback would reduce the effective defenses of being a werewolf or vampire to level 0, anyway.
Is Scholomance user still around still round cause your cyoa looks pretty fucking interesting. Are you still looking for class ideas or do you reckon you've got enough?
here's a link to what he's got so far

While they aren't compelled to listen to you forever can you define your original relationship with a companion that you create? Since while companions that are from your life maintain their ties but it's left unsaid just what the original impression of fictional companions would be.
This one.
fuck you anion
...
Rapture Aca...Oh well, someone is faster than me
I want to see what you writefag, user.
he said he has work yesterday and today, might be back tomorrow or day after that
Don't worry, I will always answer that, user, even if you don't.
This one.
You can't make them start out in love with you, or anything like that, if that's what you mean. You can generally assume you can build at least a camaraderie with them during that first period of getting used to the new place, unless you're bringing in some sort of sociopathic asshole, or you act like a sociopathic asshole toward them.
If it is important to you to ensure your social dominance over a large group of people, then I recommend buying Gift of Gab, as well as some intelligence traits. If you're planning on making a harem or something along those lines, Beauty trait certainly isn't going to hurt, either. Telepathy can, of course, be used for extreme social control as well.
Can I take options multiple times? Could I make my life a living hell by taking literally every user with me?
>Still has no contraception
>Why
Did someone said contraception?
