You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Right now, you were in a bit of jam, as you've now found yourself in a... compromising position over Portland. You just wanted to check if she grew a size! Honest! It's not your fault she decided to just up and pass out on you!

...and then that's when Anna walked in.

"OHMYGODWHYAREYOUMOLESTINGPORTLAND." Anna yelped, her hands covering her mouth.

>So, uh... how about some breakfast?
>Just so you know, Sweet Pea totally grew a size.

As if that were ever in doubt

"Just so you know, Sweet Pea totally grew a size." You say blankly, your mind being utterly incapable of coming up with any witty to try and defuse the tension.

"G-grew a size...?" Anna blinks. She then looks down at her OWN chest and you can see her cheeks starting to flush red a bit.

"SO HOW BOUT SOME BREAKFAST?" You bellow loudly to try and change the subject, casually slinging the still unconscious Portland over your shoulder and grabbing Anna by the hand and pulling her along towards the mess.

"H-huh? O-okay!" Anna yelps as she's forcefully pulled along.

"W-what's going on...?" Portland groans as her optics flutter open. She adjusts her glasses which had been knocked loose and sees you carrying her. "Hoel? Why are you carrying me...?"

Oh shit, looks like she didn't remember anything! What do you say?

>Looks like you tripped and fell or something.
>I was totally molesting you.

>Guess you could use some coffee, huh?

>>Guess you could use some coffee, huh?

"Haha, guess you could use some coffee, huh?" You force a laugh to deflect Portland's suspicions. "Looks like last night's mission really took it out of you!"

"I suppose..." Portland blinks as she slides off your shoulder and gets back on her own two feet, swaying a bit as she regains her balance.

"But weren't you-" Anna starts right before you clamp your hand over her mouth.

"SHE WAS JUST TIRED, ANNA!" You force your laugh even louder to make sure Anna gets the point. Anna just nods silently, her antenna wriggling wildly in surprise.

"I don't get how you destroyers can be so energetic at all hours." Portland groans as she pushes open the door to the mess hall. Inside, it was largely empty, with only a handful of crew and a couple of shipgirls present. At this hour, most of the crew was still asleep or just getting up, so you had the room relatively all to yourself.

However, you did catch sight of the Captain in his own personal little corner, the rest of the crew opting to keep their distance from him.

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see him here." Portland notes. "Sometimes I don't think the Captain even sleeps at all.

"Y-yeah, I've never seen him sleep!" Anna adds.

"You're practically always awake, too, Anna." You quip playfully as you ruffle her hair.

"H-hey! That's different!" Anna wails.

You glance back at the Captain, who was casually sipping a cup of coffee as he looked at his tablet. Morning news? Routine reports? Top secret info? You weren't sure. However, you could swear he looked a bit lonely...

>Sit with the Captain.

"C'mon, it looks like the Captain needs some company." You grin as you grab your tray of pancakes, bacon, eggs, and coffee. A pretty standard breakfast, honestly. Especially for shipgirls.

"Are you sure? He might want to be left alone." Portland frowns.

"Then why would be eating in here?" You roll your eyes.

"I-I suppose there's nothing wrong with that." Anna nods as she manages to cram five cups of coffee onto her tray in addition to her food.

"Then it's decided!" You grin as you trot over to the Captain's table and plop down on the seat next to him. Anna and Portland sit across.

The Captain, to his credit, doesn't visibly react to your presence. Only a slight shifting of his tired eyes as he counts how many of you there are before taking a sip of coffee.

"Can I help you?" He asks calmly and politely.

>Whatcha reading?

What do you give to a ship girl in the first place?

Aside from a ring.

"Sooooooo, watcha reading?" You bounce up and down eagerly as you chew on a strip of bacon. "Important stuff?"

"Indeed, I'm reading some sensitive material." The Captain sighs, angling is tablet a bit so you can't really see the screen from where you are.

"Oh! Oh! New orders from the Admiral?" Anna's antenna perks up.

"Intel reports of enemy strength?" Portland probes.

Heh, looks like those two girls were suckers for gossip, too.

"Lover letters from North Carolinaaaaa~?" You tease.

"No comment." The Captain coolly sips from his coffee mug again.

Damn the Captain was smooth. As expected of of the man whose job was to deal with shipgirls all day.

Your quick destroyer reflexes manage to beat the Captain's, and you tilt your head forward before he has the chance to pull the tablet away, and you manage to catch that he's reading an email. Your optics flash as they glean in all of the text in the few seconds you're able to maintain contact. You couldn't analyze all of the words, but you understand just enough.

It was an e-mail from North Carolina, reporting the status of things going on in the Pacific. Like the Captain, it was very in depth and detail oriented, basically describing the day to day operations of the entire theater of operations.

But the pure gold was just a couple of lines near the bottom of letter.

"You're really missed here. When are you coming back?"

Oooooooooh.

The Captain shoots you a discouraging look, while Anna and Portland lean in with deep interest, apparently wanting to know what you saw.

"Man, your material is SUPER BORING." You frown as you lean back in your chair and take a fresh sip from your coffee cup before cramming a slice of pancake down your mouth. "Makes me almost wanna go to sleep again!"

Anna and Portland then lean back in response. Anna's antenna droops and Portland haughtily adjusts her glasses as if to pretend she wasn't interested in the first place.

The Captain gives you a slightly surprised look, and you just give in a playful wink. He just slightly shakes his head in response.

"So Captain, when are we gonna reach the Falklands?!" Anna squeals in anticipation. "I can't wait to meet some Royal Navy ships!"

"I've heard they're very professional." Portland nods in agreement. "Actually, what is the force composition of the RN detachment?"

"Their shipgirl force mainly consists of carriers and cruisers. A few conventional ships and submarines round out the fleet, with some ground based planes and shore artillery for defense." The Captain explains, glad the subject has been changed. "Most of the the Royal Navy assets shipgirls are in the North Atlantic. The forces here are mainly just a defensive holding force."

"Part of the 'North First' strategy?" Portland raises an eyebrow.

"O-oh, like Germany First back in the War?" Anna blinks.

"That's the idea." The Captain nods. "Since most of the world's navies are based in the northern hemisphere, naturally the north has to be secured first, so that's where the priority is."

>Makes sense.

"Makes sense, I guess." You sigh as you finally finish your breakfast. Anna and Portland seem to be finishing up, too, though the Captain has practically not touched his at all.

"You going to have any of that bacon?" You ask, your bottomless stomach still growling.

"Yes. Eventually." The Captain grunts. "However, since you three are up so early, I was wondering if you'd like to participate in a little mission."

"What kind of mission?" You blink. Anna and Portland also immediately perk up.

"We've been trying to contact the Falklands garrison, but we've been having trouble getting through to them." The Captain explains.

"Trouble?" Portland narrows her eyes.

"No." He shakes his head. "Due to the close proximity to the Storm Wall, long range radio communications are regularly disrupted. More of a nuisance, really."

"W-well I can help!" Anna proudly proclaims, her antenna shooting straight up.

"Exactly." The Captain nods. "It's not critical, but I think it'd be a help if Anna could move ahead and act as a relay to break through the interference. I'd like to get at sitrep from the Falklands garrison before we dock."

"And she obviously needs escorts..." You continue.

"Are you up for it?" The Captain asks. "If not, I can scrub the mission and and we'll wait till we can get closer for shortwave comms."

You look at Portland and Anna. Anna is absolutely giddy while Portland was more neutral.

>Sure, let's go!
