Let's read Dark Dungeons

For those that have never read it before, Dark Dungeons is a Chick Tract that was kicked around pretty handily for decades teaching Christians about the evils of Dungeons and Dragons.

Let's take a trip back to the time D&D was at its height of being 'The Devil's Game' and read the work of Jack Chick.

Now available in film format that plays it completely straight!

Man, I kind of miss having these things handed out to me at every other social function. Growing up in the bible belt, Chick Tracts were always getting thrown around.

>mfw finding a dead geek girl who is really into roleplaying games.

Jack can draw a decent dragon, I gotta give him credit for that.

Got a link to the movie, OP?

Christ, that is some heavy levels of That DM.

13 of 22

Nope. You can buy it from Amazon or elsewhere for a cheap price though. Maybe another user has it and can stream it or something.

Also 14 of 22

Jack never drew any of his own comics.

15 of 22

OH NO! Someone is about to get a heavy dose of MANSPLAINING!

True. GOD drew these comics, he just used Jack as a medium.

> Female DM
Evidence Chick has never even *played* D&D

As an aside, I used to have the Chick Tract for the religion from the Dead Space games. Unitology, if I remember correctly.

It was a fun read.

LISTEN TO THE WORD OF JESUS!

>played D&D for years
>still no offer to join a coven
I feel cheated.

It's in three episodes on Youtube.

Lucky trips confirms shakespeare's a hack
What was it with religion and hating rock?

It was someone called Fred Carter.

Dubs confirm. Fred Carter = God.

Fred Carter is Kek's early messenger before the internet existed.

Thanks for joining the ride.

Anybody else want to throw in with early 80's D&D is the devil propaganda?

Dibs on her minis

Great allegory. But what if I'm trapped on the paraelemental plane of ooze?

That's some pretty dedicated method acting.
Wish my players would get in character more often.

> dungeon of bondage

As opposed to a dungeon of liberation?

>I thought I had all the answers, Mike, but now everything is falling apart. *sob*

>What was it with religion and hating rock?

^ I was alive and well during that time. Get this; no lie: The parents heard (through Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell or whatever) that the heavy rhythm section (drum solos) were derived from ancient pagan jungle rituals. So listen to rock music and you will eventually worship ancient negro gods. I can see a case for Ronnie James Dio, but not the rest. Definitely not Stryper.

"Crossing the Line. Fiction, Reality and the ‘Occult’ in Role-Playing Games: a Christian’s Perspective" by Andrew Rilstone. This was a very convincing argument by an Evangelical Christian defending RPGs including D&D. Still looking for a pdf to post. I remember it was a great read though.

>What was it with religion and hating rock?

Soon I discovered that this "rock" thing was true.
Jerry Lee Lewis was the Devil,
and Jesus was an architect, previous to his career of being a prophet.

Sure!

Part 3, 1:40-2:07 I lost it.

Any more Chick Tracts?

God I wish D&D was more like in Chick-tracts

Yay, book burning, because that never lead to anything bad. Way to take the moral high ground there Preacher.

Also Acts:19-19
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, it came to fifty thousand drachmas.

50,000 drachmas is a weirdly specific amount. I wonder how many copies of the PHB that would be?

The Bible Reloaded on youtube has read a bunch of them too.

That cover art is pretty fucking groovin

>trapped in a dungeon of bondage
Might be magical realm, but it sounds like a fun time.

Not religion necessarily; the bible actually makes a point of pointing out that God loves music. It does say that Lucifer was originally an angel of music or something too, so music can be corruptive, but if anything it just makes music have duality; it can be used for good or evil, just like anything else.
The problem was that preachers would know those verses and tended to not like Rock music for being too disruptive/free-spirited, and would then use those bible verses to denounce Rock as the "music of the devil." Parents don't like their teens rebellious attitude, the preacher says there's a connection between Rock and rebellious behavior... it's not your fault your kids are acting out, they're being influenced by this devil-music!

Dark and dungeons?

Don't forget the bad influence of Blues - its basically nigger devil music!

(I am not joking - the early days of blues as it interacted with the white population lead to beliefs like this).

Holy fuck I forgot this was a thing. Oh god it hurts.

So exactly 4 books

>DM tells player what their character does
>Player narrates outcome without rolling dice
Am I in opposite-land?

Apparently we've all been playing it wrong all these years.

And one prepainted gobbo.

>The Zombie
For there is only one.
Also, you can apparently play D&D with just one person.

*LESBIAN UNDERTONES INTENSIFY*

reminder that Marcie is going to hell for killing herself

You can play any rpg with as many or as few players as you want.

Might be terrible times, but it is possible.

Can you guys believe this guy is still alive?

>tfw no dark haired MILFy DM to tie me down and extract my seed to use in her satanic witchcraft black magic antichristian veryverynotgood rituals

Don't you need a DM for that?

Not always.

Also, wasnt the dm answering the phone there?

Carter is just one of Chick's artists. Arguably one of the best, though.

So, what? Is she just rolling her character against the one zombie in the entire setting?

It's funny how he has certain panels redrawn or rewritten as society changes.

The early versions of Big Daddy's evolution lecture had pretty obvious flaws, even for fundies of the time.

I still can't believe this hysteria was a thing in America.

We're you all doing shrooms or something?

It's simple, user. Viewers = $$$$

The media loves a scare story, because it gets them lots of eyeballs for the advertisements. This never would have gotten any trac[spoier]t[/spoiler]ion if the media hadn't thrown gas on the fire.

It's alright, we can just cast Reincarnation.

>All these people who never got the invitation to the coven
>All these people not knowing about the special secret edition of D&D
>Tfw your a immortal loli, secretly controlling the jews and preparing the world for the coming of satan

C'mon guys, step it up.

God....I fucking forgot these existed. And you reminded me.

You bastard.

Roughly 150 PHB at 30 bucks a pop.

Which is why we aren't in covens and can't cast spells for real.

>That staute in the background

Isn't that the statue the adventure's are stealing the eyes out of in the ol AD&D player's handbook?
