For those that have never read it before, Dark Dungeons is a Chick Tract that was kicked around pretty handily for decades teaching Christians about the evils of Dungeons and Dragons.
Let's take a trip back to the time D&D was at its height of being 'The Devil's Game' and read the work of Jack Chick.
Now available in film format that plays it completely straight!
Man, I kind of miss having these things handed out to me at every other social function. Growing up in the bible belt, Chick Tracts were always getting thrown around.

Jack can draw a decent dragon, I gotta give him credit for that.

Nope. You can buy it from Amazon or elsewhere for a cheap price though. Maybe another user has it and can stream it or something.

OH NO! Someone is about to get a heavy dose of MANSPLAINING!
Samuel Brooks
True. GOD drew these comics, he just used Jack as a medium.

As an aside, I used to have the Chick Tract for the religion from the Dead Space games. Unitology, if I remember correctly.
It was a fun read.

>What was it with religion and hating rock?
^ I was alive and well during that time. Get this; no lie: The parents heard (through Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell or whatever) that the heavy rhythm section (drum solos) were derived from ancient pagan jungle rituals. So listen to rock music and you will eventually worship ancient negro gods. I can see a case for Ronnie James Dio, but not the rest. Definitely not Stryper.
"Crossing the Line. Fiction, Reality and the ‘Occult’ in Role-Playing Games: a Christian’s Perspective" by Andrew Rilstone. This was a very convincing argument by an Evangelical Christian defending RPGs including D&D. Still looking for a pdf to post. I remember it was a great read though.
Joseph Wright
>What was it with religion and hating rock?
Soon I discovered that this "rock" thing was true. Jerry Lee Lewis was the Devil, and Jesus was an architect, previous to his career of being a prophet.
>Anybody else want to throw in with early 80's D&D is the devil propaganda?
>Four kinda cute, weird girls at the table >Super invested, got their own miniatures collections >Into magic and spiritualism and shit >DM a real kinky dominatrix type >Latent bi-curiosity between one girl and the DM
God I wish D&D was more like in Chick-tracts

Yay, book burning, because that never lead to anything bad. Way to take the moral high ground there Preacher.
Also Acts:19-19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, it came to fifty thousand drachmas.
50,000 drachmas is a weirdly specific amount. I wonder how many copies of the PHB that would be?
Jaxson Smith
The Bible Reloaded on youtube has read a bunch of them too.
Charles Russell
That cover art is pretty fucking groovin
Dylan Reed
>trapped in a dungeon of bondage Might be magical realm, but it sounds like a fun time.

Not religion necessarily; the bible actually makes a point of pointing out that God loves music. It does say that Lucifer was originally an angel of music or something too, so music can be corruptive, but if anything it just makes music have duality; it can be used for good or evil, just like anything else. The problem was that preachers would know those verses and tended to not like Rock music for being too disruptive/free-spirited, and would then use those bible verses to denounce Rock as the "music of the devil." Parents don't like their teens rebellious attitude, the preacher says there's a connection between Rock and rebellious behavior... it's not your fault your kids are acting out, they're being influenced by this devil-music!
Chase Wright
Dark and dungeons?

Don't forget the bad influence of Blues - its basically nigger devil music!
(I am not joking - the early days of blues as it interacted with the white population lead to beliefs like this).

It's funny how he has certain panels redrawn or rewritten as society changes.

The media loves a scare story, because it gets them lots of eyeballs for the advertisements. This never would have gotten any trac[spoier]t[/spoiler]ion if the media hadn't thrown gas on the fire.
